We talked yesterday about overcoming temptation, how Jesus was tempted like us, and He never sinned. And that is pictured in the way He overcame gravity in walking on the water. 1:39 And how He enabled Peter also to overcome gravity and walk on the water. And in the same way, He can enable us to overcome temptation which pulls us down and walk without sinking. 2:05 But here it is speaking about overcoming another thing. Overcoming the world. What does it mean to overcome the world? Most of us don't think that there is any sin in the world. 2:27 We saw yesterday that Jesus came to die to save us from our sins. But here it says we overcome the world by our faith. So we have to overcome sin. And we have to overcome the world. 2:49 And Jesus said in John chapter 16. Yesterday we saw how Jesus overcame sin. Yesterday we saw how Jesus overcame sin. In John 16 in the last verse. Jesus said in the last part, be of good cheer because I have overcome the world. 3:16 Now overcome means there was a battle. If Jesus was not tempted like us, then He did not have a battle with temptation. But He had a battle with temptation. 3:38 And then only He became an overcomer. And here, He must have had a battle with the world also. If there is no battle, there is no overcoming. So there is something called the world which Jesus overcame. 4:03 And that is what we have to overcome also. This is the victory that overcomes the world, our faith. So what is this world that we have to overcome? Let me show you another verse in Revelation chapter 3. 4:27 In Revelation 3, we read these words in verse 21. He who overcomes, I will grant to sit with me on my throne, exactly like I overcame and sat down with my father on his throne. 4:49 See, we are told to overcome in the same way that Jesus overcame. Most Christians haven't understood this. They haven't understood that they have to overcome the same way that Jesus overcame. 5:22 See, many believers just admire Jesus. They don't follow Him. I think all of us admire Jesus. Oh, what a wonderful Savior. How much He loved us. 5:42 That is admiring. That is good. But Jesus never said, admire me, admire me, admire me. He always said, follow me, follow me, follow me. So what does it mean to follow Jesus? It means doing the same thing He did. 6:05 As He overcame, we have to overcome. That is exactly what it says in this verse. Now, if all believers had read their Bible carefully, these things would have been clear to them. 6:27 But most believers do not read the Bible carefully. They don't read it slowly. They don't meditate on it. And then how do they get their knowledge of the Bible? Some preacher gets up and preaches and they blindly believe what this is. 6:53 And another bad habit that many Christians have, they don't even take a Bible to the meeting. It is not stylish to carry a Bible. And when the preacher records the verse, they never turn to that verse. 7:16 So they don't know whether the preacher is preaching the truth or not. Most Christians are thoroughly ignorant of the Bible. Even though they have been believers 20-30 years, they blindly believe what some preacher says. 7:41 That is why they get deceived. And that's why Satan is able to cheat them of the inheritance that Jesus purchased for them. Supposing your father was a multi-millionaire who owned a lot of property in Tudukurin and Tamil Nadu all over. 8:08 And a lot of money in many banks scattered all over Tamil Nadu. And he makes a careful list of all his money and assets. And you are his only child. And he writes a will. 8:28 Giving all the details and giving it all for you. And when he dies, will you be interested in finding out what all property belongs to you now? Will you be interested in finding out which all banks, how much money your father has left for you? 8:58 Supposing you give it this will to a lawyer to execute it for you. And that crooked lawyer cheats you of 99% of what your father struggled and saved for so many years. 9:22 And he gives you some 50,000 rupees. And you live in a small hut. Struggling to live. Because some crooked lawyer cheated you of millions of rupees. 9:44 And if I heard about it. I would be so angry with that lawyer. I say, how can you cheat this poor man of what his father has written in his will for him? That is how I get angry with the devil. 10:06 I am angry with the devil every day. Not because he cheated me. He cannot cheat me. Because I have studied the father's will thoroughly. And I know what I can get for myself. 10:26 He knows he cannot cheat me because he knows I have studied the father's will completely. I am angry with him because he has cheated so many other of God's children. And he uses the pastors and preachers to cheat God's children. 10:44 Who themselves don't know the Bible. The only verse they know is some Old Testament verse how to collect 10% from God's people. I want to encourage all of you to read the New Testament and see what your father, heavenly father has purchased for you. 11:12 Jesus shed his blood to purchase it for you. He wants you to be an overcomer. Every day. Over every temptation. And the same world that Jesus overcame, he wants you to overcome. The world in the New Testament refers to two things. 11:38 One is the people of the world. Those people we must love. Because God loved the whole world. He gave his son for them. So there must be not even one person in the world whom I hate. 12:03 If there is one person anywhere in the world whom you hate, you are not like God. If you hate your mother-in-law, you cannot be a real Christian. If you hate your neighbor, you cannot be a Christian. If you hate anybody in the world, you cannot be a Christian. 12:36 Because a Christian is a child of God. And God loved all the people in the world. who hated him. He gave his son to die for those who hated him. So the people of the world we must love. 12:56 But there is another thing called the world we have to hate. See what it says in 1 John chapter 2. 1 John chapter 2. And here it says in verse 15. 13:18 1 John 2.15. There are many things this world offers you. And it says if anyone loves this world. 15 to 17 are very important verses. All these, if you love this world, you cannot love the Father. 13:42 In verse 15, if you love this world, you cannot love the Father. That is so clear. It's like saying 2 - 2 is 0. 2 - 2 is 0. 14:02 If you love this world, you cannot love the Father. Impossible. You have to make a choice. You know, supposing you are arranging a marriage for your daughter. And she says, "I love this man." And I love this man. And I love this man also. 14:06 I want to marry both of them. What will you say as a father. Okay, marry both of them. No. You say you have to make a choice. You know, you have to make a choice. You know, you have to make a choice. If you love this man, you're going to love this man. 14:18 If you love this man, you're going to love this man. If you love this man, you're going to love this man. If you love this man, you're going to love this man. If you love this man, you're going to love this man. I love this man. 14:23 And I love this man also. I want to marry both of them. What will you say as a father? Okay, marry both of them. No. You say you have to make a choice. 14:43 If you love this man, you've got to stop loving this man. The same sensible thing which you will tell your daughter, the Holy Spirit is telling you. If you love the world, you cannot love the father. 15:05 If you love Jesus, you cannot love this world. You have to make a choice. Which one is going to be your husband? Is Jesus going to be your husband or the world is going to be your husband? Jesus is not compelling anybody to marry him. 15:31 In the whole of India, there are 1,200 million people. How many people do you think love Jesus Christ? Very small number. 15:53 Not even one in a thousand. In this country. That is my belief. One in a thousand may love Jesus. And the same thing is true throughout the world. Who do the rest of the people love? 16:16 Even many who call themselves Christians. They love the world. They don't love Jesus Christ. Some people think they can love the world and love Jesus. It's not possible. It says here, if you love the world, the love of God is not in you at all. 16:40 You cannot love the father. I'll show you another verse. James chapter 4. James 4:4 says, he's talking to believers. You know, when you read a letter like James, you must ask yourself, to whom is he writing? 17:06 See chapter 2 verse 1. My beloved brothers. Or chapter 3 verse 1. Dear brothers. He's writing to beloved brothers in Christ. My dear brothers in Christ. 17:27 Chapter 4 verse 4. You are a bunch of adulteresses. What a strong word that is. My beloved brothers. You are all adulteresses. This is inspired by the Holy Spirit. 17:48 It's not James getting angry with somebody. Are you a beloved brother or sister in Christ? Is it possible that the Holy Spirit is speaking to you today and saying you are an adulteress? 18:12 What does it mean to be an adulteress? See, one translation says like this. You are like an unfaithful wife who is loving the enemy of your husband. 18:34 You don't love your husband. You are married to this man. But you are in love with not your husband's friend but your husband's enemy. Have you ever heard of a wife like that? I have heard of wives who fall in love with their husband's friends. 18:59 And then divorce their husband and go and marry that man. But have you heard of any wife who loves her husband's enemy? That is what he is saying here. You are supposed to be married to Jesus Christ. 19:20 But you are an adulteress. Because you are loving someone who is an enemy of Christ. And he says if anyone loves this world, is a friend with this world, he is the enemy of God. 19:40 This is so serious. If you were to ask me, how can a believer become an enemy of God? I am not talking how the atheists and unbelievers are enemies of God. How can a believer be an enemy of God? 20:03 By being a friend of this world. Not a friend of sinners. We must be the friend of sinners because Jesus was the friend of sinners. So, we must love the people in the world. 20:24 We must have no enemies in the world. I don't have any enemies in the world. I don't hate anybody in the whole world. All the 7,000 million people in the world. I love all of them. But there is another thing called the world, the world system. 20:49 It is not people. It is an invisible thing controlled by the devil. That he is running this world system. And if I love that, I cannot love God. 21:11 If I am friendly with that, I will become the enemy of God. So, we need to understand what this world system is. See, Jesus said in John 14. I told you what he said earlier. I have overcome the world. 21:33 That means in 33 and a half years, he never loved the world. He loved all the people in the world. He loved even the people who crucified him. But he never loved the world system. He overcame that. See John 14. 21:54 Verse 30. Middle of that verse. The ruler of this world is coming, but he finds nothing in me. Who is the ruler of this world? This is the person whom Jesus himself called the ruler of this world. 22:20 This is the devil. Jesus said, I've got all authority in heaven and earth. That is true. Earth is different from the world. Jesus said, I've got all authority in heaven and on earth. 22:44 But the world system is different. But the world system is different. That ruler of that world system is the devil. He's not ruling the earth, but he's ruling this world system. The earth belongs to the Lord. 23:05 The heaven belongs to the Lord. Jesus Christ has got all authority in heaven and on the earth. That is why we go and preach the gospel everywhere. Jesus said, all authority in heaven and earth is given to me. So go to the ends of the earth and preach the gospel. 23:32 I am with you. I who have all authority in the earth. I am with you wherever you go. That we believe. But this world system. That ruler is the devil. He is called also the prince of the power of the air. 23:57 You read that in Ephesians chapter 2. The prince of the power of the air. And also in Ephesians 6. The rulers in the heavenly places. So there is an invisible world that we cannot see. 24:21 Ruled by the devil. That's controlling so many things in this world. It's controlling politics. It's controlling the business world. And the biggest power in this world system is money. 24:44 There are two kingdoms on this earth today. One is the kingdom of this world. And the other is the kingdom of God. The kingdom of God is found not in everything that calls itself a church. 25:09 But wherever there are true disciples who have overcome the world, there you see the kingdom of God. You cannot be a part of the kingdom of God if you have not overcome the world. In the kingdom of God, the greatest power is grace. 25:32 In the kingdom of the world, the greatest power is money. What money is in the world, grace is in God's kingdom. In the kingdom of God, those who have plenty of money are rich. In the kingdom of God, those who have plenty of grace are rich. 25:55 When people have plenty of grace, sin cannot rule over them. You know how much grace you have by how much you are overcoming sin in your life. In the world, there are so many big people and great people with money and position and power. 26:23 Very high up. In the kingdom of God, it is people who are low down. Who humble themselves. Like Jesus who go down and down to humble themselves to be a servant of everybody else. Those are the greatest people in God's kingdom. 26:45 They are the ones who get the most grace. God gives His grace to the humble. So these two kingdoms are opposite. You cannot belong to both kingdoms. You cannot have a citizenship in two kingdoms. 27:10 In the world, some people have citizenship for two countries. But in this area, you cannot have citizenship in both. We are all born as part of the kingdom of this world. A time must come when we finish with it. 27:32 And the only way to finish with it is to die to it. That cuts the connection. See what the apostle Paul said in Galatians chapter 6. Galatians 6 and verse 14. 27:54 Paul says, I will not boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Through that, the world has been crucified to me and I have been crucified to the world. 28:20 That means my interest in all the attractive things of the world is dead. And the world is also not interested in some fellow like me. I am not interested in them and they are not interested in me. 28:43 Because we belong to two different kingdoms. Has that happened to you? That is only possible when the cross of Jesus Christ crucifies you. He says, I have been cut off from the world. 29:03 I have died to this world. That is what he is saying in this world. Or we can put it another way. Listen carefully now. I have as little interest in the attractive things of this world as a dead man has. 29:33 How many believers have you met like that? Who have as little interest in money as a dead man. Who have as little interest in the honor of this world as a dead man. 29:59 And who have as little interest in the sinful pleasures of sex in the world as a dead man. You know, sometimes you should go to the cemetery. And you see one grave there with a name written about a chap who died. 30:22 And you ask yourself now. This fellow who is dead here. How much is he now interested in money? Zero. How much is he now interested in becoming a big man in the world? 30:46 Zero. How much is this fellow now lusting after sinful sexual pleasure? Zero. You say, Lord, is that what crucified with Christ means? 31:06 And the Holy Spirit will say, yes. That's what Paul says. I have been crucified to this world. I am like a dead man. I have no more interest in this world than that dead man has. I am not talking about Hindu mysticism or yoga or any such thing. 31:36 No, I am talking about the Holy Spirit working something in our life. I am not here to judge other people or what they do. But the Holy Spirit cuts me off from my connection with the world. 32:05 That my interest in the things of this world is dead. It's not that it is less. You know, when a man is 90 years old and his sick bed is interested in the world is less. You see some 90 year old man sick in a death bed. 32:32 He is not interested in sexual pleasure. He has lived for all that. Now he is not interested because he is too old. I am not talking about that. I am talking about a man who is dead. 32:53 Zero interest in those things. That is what the Holy Spirit does. You cannot do it yourself. This is not yoga or Buddhism I am teaching. You cannot do it yourself. See, nobody can crucify himself on a cross. 33:14 Somebody else does it. And God cuts me off from the world like that. That is how we overcome the world like Jesus did. Do you know that Jesus was tempted by money? 33:35 How do you know that? How do I know that? Because the Bible says we saw that yesterday. Jesus was tempted in all points like we are. Who in the world is not tempted by money? Who in the world is not tempted by money? Even the beggar in the street is tempted by money. 33:54 I am tempted by money. All people in the world are tempted by money. All people in the world are tempted to sinful sexual pleasure. All people in the world are tempted to get honor and position. 34:17 Either in the world or in the church or in the government or business or somewhere. Somewhere I want position. If I can't get it in politics, I will try it in business. If I can't get it in business, I will try it in the church. 34:38 To be a pastor or an elder. All this desire for position. You know, in our church, I tell the elder brothers. In our churches. If you have a longing to be an elder brother. 35:01 That proves you are totally unfit to be an elder brother. If you have the slightest desire to be an elder brother. You are totally unfit to be an elder brother. You are fit to be an elder brother when you have zero desire to be an elder brother. 35:26 And after you become an elder brother. If you love the position of being an elder brother. You are totally unfit to be an elder brother. The real elder brother is the one who says. I only want to be an ordinary brother and a servant. 35:51 There are a lot of elders who are unfit to be elders. Because they love that position. They want people to honor them. They are not crucified to the world. Because seeking honor, even in a church, is the spirit of the world. 36:14 We read in John chapter 6. That when Jesus fed the 5,000. They were, people were so excited. They said in verse 14. This is definitely the prophet. 36:35 And they wanted to make him a king. And they were going to catch him by force to make him a king. Verse 15. He ran off to the mountains. Have you ever seen anybody like this? 36:58 There were about 5,000 people there. And about 5,000 women. 10,000 people come to make him a king. And he runs away. If they were coming to kill him and he's running away, I can understand. Where do you find 10,000 people coming to make you an elder brother and you run away? 37:23 Or 10,000 people come to make you a bishop. And you say, no, no, no, I don't want to be a bishop. Is that what we see in the world today? No. We find people going to court to say, no, I should be the bishop. This is not Christianity. 37:44 This is the world system. There's a name for it in the Bible called Babylon. It's not Christianity. Jesus has shown us. He was tempted by the world. But he ran away. 38:04 I'll show you another example. In Luke chapter 4. We read that when Jesus was in the wilderness. The devil came to him. And said to him. He said, he showed him verse 5. 38:26 All the kingdoms of this world. Not the people. The kingdoms of this world. In his mind, he showed Jesus in a moment of time. And he said, all this is mine. 38:49 Verse 6. It was given to me. Who gave it to him? Not God. God won't give all that to the devil. 39:09 God gave it to Adam. God gave it to Adam. Say, you are the ruler of this whole earth. And that, this whole world is yours. But in the garden of Eden. By one action. When Adam bowed down to the devil. 39:30 And said, oh Satan. I will do what you say. I will disobey God. You are my master. I will do what you say. The moment he said that. 39:52 What God had given Adam. Adam gave to the devil. And that's what the devil is saying. You see all this Jesus. Jesus see it. This was given to me. 40:14 And. I give it to whomever I like. I give money to whom I like. I give position in the government to whom I like. 40:35 I make businessmen prosper. Because I like them. And I like. Those businessmen. Who cheat others. And give bribes. And deceive others. I help them a lot. 40:57 I love them. I give them plenty of money. And. I love those politicians. Who kill others. And cheat others. And deceive others. And. I give them position. In the government. And. And then. I like some preachers also. I like those preachers. 41:15 Who want position. And honor in the church. And. I tell them how to get money from the poor people in the church. I tell them how to get money from the poor people in the church. I tell them how to go on television. And get plenty of money. 41:26 And. And. I tell them how to get money from the poor people in the church. I tell them how to go on television and get plenty of money. I tell them how to get money from the poor people in the church. I tell them how to get money from the poor people in the church. 41:35 I tell them how to get money from the poor people in the church. I tell them how to get money from the poor people in the church. I tell them how to get money from the poor people in the church. I tell them how to get money from the poor people in the church. 41:39 I tell them how to get money from the poor people in the church. I tell them how to get money from the poor people in the church. And. Build expensive houses and buy expensive cars and aeroplanes. The devil says what all I can give to people. 41:57 Politicians. Businessmen. Preachers. But they all have to do one thing. Only one thing. They have to bow down to me like Adam did. So Jesus. 42:18 You bow down to me. I will give you everything. What did Jesus say? Get away Satan. I will only bow down to my father. What about you, my brother, sister? 42:43 Do you want something in this world? You can get it. But you have to bow down to Satan. Tell a small lie here. Cheat somebody there. Look how much money Judas has carried God by bowing down to Satan. And now he is with Satan for the last 2000 years. 43:11 And those who bow down to Satan will spend eternity with him. And that is why I tell believers. That is why I tell believers. Don't make that extra money by telling a lie. Don't cheat somebody and get a little more money for yourself. 43:37 Don't seek honor from the world. Don't seek honor in the church. Don't live for the sinful pleasures the devil gives you. Now a lot of people have computers. And in the computer you can go to the internet. 44:00 And with a little thing called a mouse. You can go to almost any part of the world on the internet. And you can get anything you want. In fact this message we are preaching now. Also you can get on the internet. 44:26 And there are some people watching on the internet right now. That depends on what you want. But the devil says. I will give you some other things. I will give you some sexual pictures. 44:47 You don't have to pay any money. It's free. Just I will take you to one site. Just click there and you can see that. Doesn't take long. Just click five seconds. You'll get the picture. 45:10 But you say I'm a believer. Oh Satan says. That's alright. Even believers. Once in a while you need a little. Relaxation. 45:31 And see there's nobody in the room now right now. Just you can enjoy yourself for one or two minutes. Tomorrow. Tomorrow when you go to the church meeting. Nobody will know. What you have done. Tomorrow you can go to the church. 45:49 And clap. And say hallelujah. And everybody will think you're a very spiritual man. You will not lose your testimony. You will not lose your testimony. Don't worry. Nobody can see you here. Just bow down to me for two minutes. 46:10 Just click. The devil says just like Eve. Took out the hand and took the fruit. Now you also take your hand and click that mouse. See how easy it was for Eve to get that. 46:32 And how much she enjoyed it. Oh that was the most tasty fruit in Eden. The devil says you'll also enjoy this very much. Just believe me. And do you know how many young people. 46:52 Who are so called believers. Are bowing down to Satan. They sit alone in front of the computer. And they bow down to the devil and say. Oh Satan. Please give me that pleasure for five minutes at least. 47:13 And Sunday they come and say hallelujah. Praise the Lord. God is great. You think God is even listening to them. 47:34 Let me tell you. 99% of so called believers who shout hallelujah. God is not even listening to them. Why is God not listening to them. Because Psalm 66:18 says. If there is sin in your heart. 47:55 God will not listen to you. You have sinned in private. You shout at your wife and come and say hallelujah on the meeting. You fight with your husband and come and say hallelujah on the meeting. You watch dirty pictures on the computer and television and then come and say hallelujah on the meeting. 48:18 You sign false statements and cheat people and make money. And then you say hallelujah. God is not listening to you. All the people are listening. Even if you are a pastor or elder God is not listening to you. 48:44 Where are the people who will follow Jesus. Who will say to Satan. Get away Satan. I am not going to listen to you. I worship. I bow down only to God. I don't want any of your sexual pleasure. 49:04 I don't want any of this unrighteous money. I don't want any honor from you. Praise the Lord. There are a few people like that on the face of the earth. They are very few. 49:28 They are the real kingdom of God. And you say brother Zach, in which church are these people? They are not in any one church. One or two in one church here. 49:49 One or two in that church. You say brother Zach, what about your church? Also there are two or three people here and there. Not everybody. I am not deceived. Don't think you come to CFC. You will automatically be part of the kingdom of God. 50:14 You have to stop bowing down to the devil in your private life everyday. There is no partiality with God. God doesn't care whether you belong to CFC or any sea. He sees whether you bow down to the devil in private. You say no, I don't want this world. 50:38 I have died to it. That is how Jesus overcame the world. You know it says here that in verse 13. The devil left him for a short period. 50:59 Not permanently. He came back again. Many times. It is not all written in the Gospels. But for 33 and a half years the devil kept on after Jesus. 51:20 Maybe sometimes when he was tired and weak. Lord will you bow down to me now? I will give you something. Whether he is tired or not he would say get away Satan. 51:43 He could not get through to the devil. The devil could not get through to Jesus. And that is why he says in John 14:30 at the end of his life. 33 and a half years the ruler of the world tried to come inside me. 52:05 No. I did not allow the world to come inside. You know we are to live in this world like a ship in the middle of the sea. Half the ship is underneath the sea. 52:26 And the water is pressing all sides. But not one drop of water can get inside the ship. You see all these fishing boats here in Tutukurin. So many fishing boats. 52:46 If there is even one small hole at the bottom. The boat will sink. But it goes, comes, goes, comes so many times. No water comes inside. That is an example of how a Christian must be in the world. 53:09 Completely, the world is around me. When our children go to school, the world is there. We go to the office, the world is there. We travel in a bus, all the people of the world are there. You go to the, on the road, the world is there. 53:32 All the advertisements, the world is there. The newspaper, the world is there. Television, the world is there. We are in the middle of the world. Like this boat. But not one drop of that world must come inside us. If it comes in, it is just a matter of time before the boat will sink. 54:02 And I will tell you, many of you who are born again, when you were first born again, you really made sure that you don't want any of the world. I want you to examine your life today compared to when you were first converted. 54:21 Do you remember when you were first converted, how it was? No more cinema. I don't want to watch any dirty pictures. No drinking, no smoking. No worldly things. And some of you girls, you decided to dress simply not like all these cinema stars and fashion models. 54:49 Who decked themselves like the world. And you decided to be like the bride of Jesus Christ. But then gradually you came into a church. And in the church everybody is worldly. 55:11 And you looked around and said, Oh, so it doesn't matter if I am worldly also. Little by little by little the water came inside your boat and you have sunk. But think of those days back then when not one drop of the world was inside your boat. 55:37 Oh, you are doing so much work for the Lord, attending meetings, praising the Lord. But the boat has gone to the bottom of the sea. Now the Lord says, let me repair your boat. Patch up, patch up all the holes. 56:00 Deliver you from bowing down to Satan in all those places. Make you honest and upright in your money matters. Free you from all this pursuit of sinful pleasure. And free you from seeking honor in the world or honor in the church. 56:27 God can do it. That's the only way I want to live on this earth. I don't care what people in the world think about me. I don't care what any Christian in India thinks about me. 56:48 I know the devil is afraid of me. And I want to know what God thinks about me. I want to know what God thinks about this sermon I preach. Not what you think about it. I want to stand before Jesus and say, 57:10 Lord Jesus, did I speak the truth today in my sermon? Did I preach the truth of God? Did I say anything to please some man? Or did I speak to deliver people from the deception of the devil? 57:34 To free them from the world. So that in Kutukurin and Tamil Nadu, God can have his kingdom in many people. We don't conduct special meetings here just for fun. 57:54 No, it costs us a lot of money to have these meetings. And we don't even take a collection. Not because we have a lot of money. The people who have spent the money here for this are very, very poor people. But they love you so much. 58:15 And that is why they invited you here. So that they can save your soul. They spent lakhs of rupees to save your soul.
