0:12 Okay. Anybody know any pastors? Yeah, you know a few pastors? Like back home? Is that what you're thinking of? What about prophets? Do you know any prophets? Yeah, maybe. Any apostles? Teachers? You know some teachers? 0:35 Do you know where I'm going with this? God has given to the church, he says, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, etc. And if we 0:53 I hope that you're thinking along the lines of the fact that all of us are called to equip the church, young people. So, the next time you think of who's going to be the the the one to do this work, you read the gifts of the Holy Spirit in 1:12 in Romans 12 and Romans 14, 1 Corinthians 12, and you think, "Oh, that's for somebody else." I want you to stop for a moment and think, "No, perhaps that's for me." Now, it's it I want to be clear, there are certain gifts that are for certain 1:25 people. And uh like Paul says in 1 Timothy 2, women he doesn't God doesn't allow women to teach in the church or exercise authority in the church. That's like saying he hasn't given men the gift of giving birth to children. 1:38 Try as I might give birth to a child, it's never going to happen. It's just God's role. And like that, God has given the different roles. However, within the within the bounds of scripture, those gifts that that God has written 1:50 there are for all of us to pursue, at least ask God. He may not give them all to you, but all of us to ask God, "God, you giving me this gift? And there's one gift that Paul says all of us, men, women, uh boy, girl, old man, old woman, young 2:06 boy, young girl, should pursue. Do you know what that gift is? Want to take a guess? Is it the gift of healing? Building the church, yeah? Prophecy. Somebody said prophecy. And prophecy is part of building the church. Uh the gift 2:24 The building the church itself is not mentioned as a gift, but it says that prophecy is this for the building up of the church. And so, all of you should pursue ask God for the gift of prophecy. Let me start by showing you that verse. 2:34 It's 1 Corinthians 14. I hadn't planned to say this, but 1 Corinthians 14. Write this verse down. It's a very good one to remember. This is a verse that's written to all of you, all of us, man, woman, child, because it says in the prophet Joel 2:51 prophesied about the day of Pentecost when the when the Holy Spirit was poured out, that your sons and daughters would prophesy. Your young men and old men would dream dreams. And he talks about the young and the old. Specifically, I 3:04 think because he knew God knew that the young that that the young people would think, oh, that must not be for me. So, he specifically mentions young people there. And so, this verse is for you, young person, as well. Pursue love. 1 Corinthians 14 verse 1. 3:17 Having just gotten done talking about the gifts in 1 Corinthians 12, and then the fruit of love, which must be greater than the gifts, that's always must be true. He says, yes, pursue love, but this gift you must In other words, he 3:30 said the the greatest fruit you can pursue is love. He says that at the end of 1 Corinthians 13. You know that chapter very well. Go to any wedding, they'll read from this some verse from this chapter at least once. So, he says 3:40 the greatest gift is love. What is the greatest The greatest fruit is love. What is the greatest gift? He says it's prophecy. 1 Corinthians 14:1. Pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy. Keep 3:53 write that verse down somewhere in your journal or keep it as a verse in front of you. Lord, I want to prophesy. And I I don't have time to go into what prophecy means in the new covenant. It's not telling of the future. You can go to 4:04 the fortune teller down the road. By the way, will you do this with me? Just take your phone and turn it off. I forgot mine was on. Uh fortune tellers can do that or at least pretend to do it and the devil can foretell the future or at least trick 4:20 people into doing that. I don't know about that. But anyway, pursue love and desire that you would prophesy. Okay. Uh yesterday as you know we we were we're looking in my four sessions we're looking at young people who build a 4:32 church and the kind of young people that build a church yesterday we looked at those who who seek God's face. Today we're going to look at this other attribute that God looks for in young people especially and I'm especially 4:44 speaking to young people. God looks for young people who fear him. Those who fear God. And I want to talk to you about that today. So, what does it mean to fear God? First of all, turn to Deuteronomy chapter 6 verse 13. This 4:55 is back in the Old Covenant when God gave his commands to his people. The Ten Commandments as you know it and other commandments that came with it. In the book of Deuteronomy he says in chapter 6, everybody know where Deuteronomy is? 5:09 When was the last time you read Deuteronomy? You'd be surprised what's there, you know. Let me mention this in passing. Do you know that when Jesus was tempted in the in the in the desert by the devil, there's only one book that he quoted out 5:21 of. Do you know which book that was? Deuteronomy. Jesus knew Deuteronomy. The devil came and attacked him with temptation and the word of God that was living for Jesus at that time was word from the book of Deuteronomy. 5:35 And you might be in a temptation uh in the moment of temptation where the secret, the sword that you need at that moment to resist the devil, to to fight against him, to take down the gates of hell at that moment is hidden in 5:48 Deuteronomy. And if you don't know it, you'll miss it. If you don't know that God has given you that sword, you might miss it. Take time to study it with that with that attitude. I know it's it can be a boring book. Those books Leviticus, Numbers, 5:59 Deuteronomy, but when you approach it with that attitude, Lord, I might need this someday. Help me Help me to treasure it in my heart. Deuteronomy 6:13. What does it mean to fear God? First of all, it means to remove all 6:10 idols from your life. That's what it means to fear God. This is the test. Ask yourself now, do you fear God? You might think you do. There's a sense in which everybody is going to fear God when they actually see him physically, face to 6:22 face. There's going to be a fear that that hits everyone. Uh especially those who don't know Christ, they're going to be like, "Wow, they were real. The Bible wasn't was true. God wasn't kidding. He is going to judge mankind. Every 6:35 tongue is going to confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. Whether you accepted him on earth or not, you will have to confess him at Lord as Lord at the end of your life. And there will be that fear that will hit all of mankind." Now, 6:44 for us who are born again, who are believers, we're looking forward to that day. But can you imagine what it's going to be like to finally see God in all his awesome majesty? I mean, I I go to close to Long Beach and I'm 6:56 terrified of it. It's pretty big. And God is the one who made that like a little little pyramid in his, you know, sandbox, like kids do that. That's how he made that mountain. He's so much greater than that. And one day I'm going 7:06 to face that. So, that's not But that's not the fear of God that I'm talking about. The fear of God here is a removing It start One One aspect of the fear of God is a removing of idols from from my life. This is the test whether 7:18 you really fear God in your life, my dear young person, young brother, young sister, if you've removed idols from your life. Because he says, Deuteronomy 6:13, "You shall fear only." This is a commandment. "You shall." Imagine if the if the policeman says, 7:33 "You shall get out of your car." and he's got his guns pointed at you, you won't do anything but get out of your car. If he's got the his guns trained on you and he says, "Get out of the car now." I guarantee every one of us who 7:43 has any common sense is going to get out of the car. And when God almighty who has much more authority than that says, "You shall." We take his word very lightly, but this is serious, more serious than that than the policeman. You shall fear only the 7:56 Lord your God and you shall worship him and swear by his name. You shall not follow other gods. Any of the gods of the people who surround you. So, think about that in your life today. Think about the idols and I'm not I know 8:09 none of us I don't think any of us bows down and worships physical idols. Idolatry in the in the old covenant was different because there were people worshipping idols, but today I think there are just as many if not more idols 8:20 in our lives than actual physical idols exist in the world. Idols of money, idols of sex, idols of sports, idols of popularity and fame, idols of um whatever it might be, career, pursuing your career. If that becomes an idol. If 8:37 that becomes a replacement for the place that God should This is an idol. This is the way to think about it. God deserves the only all of the glory in our in our lives. In in all of the universe God should get all of the glory. The moment 8:50 I take even a little bit of that glory and give it to something or someone else that has become an idol in my life. Whether it's sports or my uh marriage, my desire to get married or sex or uh money or a fame uh a popularity among 9:07 friends. As moment I give that attribute to that some glory it has become an idol in my life and I know I don't fear God. And God is looking for those who take this matter seriously because he needs those. You know, I say this uh with 9:20 great sadness as I've looked around at people who have become leaders in churches. But have not got rid of the idols in their hearts. And I believe God wants to use all of you as I look out on your faces. I believe God wants to use all of 9:33 you to build his church, to be involved in the work of building up his church, but he must get rid of the idols in your heart first before he can build his church. Because you know what will happen if he doesn't? You will start to 9:44 build a church, and then one day, perhaps God uses you to preach a message somewhere, and it that ministry will become an idol in your heart. Or perhaps God will take you far away to another country as a missionary, and that good 9:56 thing will become an idol in your heart, and God will have your God's work will be destroyed in your life. His ability to work through you will be negated because it's become an idol in your heart. And God cannot use those who 10:10 have idols in their hearts, those who don't fear him. "You shall have no other gods," he says. So, the uh what does it mean to fear God? It means to remove all idols from your life. Now, very practically, this is what it meant for Abraham. You know the 10:22 story of Abraham. It's written there in Genesis chapter 22. But, let me let me just summarize the story. Essentially, you know, Abraham loved God. He was a great great man, father of the faith and all that stuff, Old Testament man, but 10:33 he's the father of faith. He showed us what faith really was at the very beginning. He's the first man to show us what faith meant. And God said, "Hey Abraham, you and I have been close for a long time, but now you have this son, 10:43 Isaac. And it's the son that I promised to give you. It's the son that you waited 100 years." Have you ever waited 100 years for something? Anybody? You shouldn't be in the youth conference then. Too old for the youth conference. But, 10:56 this man waited 100 years for a child, and he got it. He got exactly what God wanted to give him. And then, can you imagine? He waited 100 years for something, and this boy was the pride of his life. He would give up anything. I 11:09 think Abraham would sooner die than let his son die. You hear me? He would He would say, "You know what? If If Isaac was in a situation where Isaac was going to die, Abraham would have put a put his life in the middle and given up his life for the 11:22 sake of his son, Isaac." I think that's the kind of love Abraham had. And God had to test his love. He says, "Abraham, I know this is something I gave you. You prayed for it, and I promised it, and I gave it to you, and here it is, but now 11:33 that thing that I gave you For example, for us young people, God has ordained marriage. Marriage is something created by God, but the devil can can allow that desire for marriage to become a replacement, an idol in our life, where I want to get married so 11:48 badly that it becomes an idol in my life. Or I want ministry so badly that it becomes a an idol in my life. Or I want uh anything, any earthly thing. I want to be accepted by people around me so badly. I just want to fit in. I 12:03 want people to think I'm cool so badly that it becomes an idol in my life. And that's what Isaac became for Abraham. And so God had to test him. Interestingly, God didn't say, "Abraham, I'm going to test your life." Cuz 12:15 Abraham said, "Sure, God, take me home." He says, "No, I'm going to allow you to be alive and experience the loss of something that you love dearly." Have you ever Have you ever experienced that? Where you know what, I would 12:26 rather have died than have experienced this loss. I've been there few times where I've thought, "You know what, it would have been better to die." At least I think it would have been better to die. It feels like that. Emotionally, I think, "You 12:37 know what, it would have been better to die than experience this loss." God taking away something that I really wanted. But he does, because he's saying, "I want to keep you alive and prove that in your living I am still the 12:49 only God that you care about." And so he'll take away that thing that you really thought you had, and you thought he gave it to you. And maybe it's a relationship that fell apart. Maybe it's a job that you thought, "Wow, this is 12:58 it." Maybe it's a ministry opportunity. But he takes it away because he wants to see, "Do you love me and me alone?" And he took Isaac away. He took Abraham had to walk three days up a mountain, and he put Isaac there. And I want to show you this 13:11 verse that God says at the end of it, Genesis chapter 22, verse 12. Abraham goes up there. You know the rest of the story. He takes Isaac, and Isaac, being a an obedient boy at the age of, I don't know, 18 or something. He was a He 13:24 was a young man at that point, submitted to his father, laid down on the altar, Abraham took the knife, and then the angel stopped him and says, "No, you don't have to kill him, Abraham. I'm going to give it back to you cuz he's 13:35 the promise. Uh you don't have to kill your son." 22:12 The As Abra Abraham Abraham had every intent to kill his son because he says, "Lord, no, I don't want any idols and I I I I thought I I really I thought you were my only God, but then you showed me 13:51 that Isaac was becoming a god in my life. So, here I am giving it to you and I'm going to have to live after I kill my son with the loss, have to live with this loss for the rest of my life that I killed my own son out of obedience to 14:02 God." And then the angel stopped him. He says, "No, do not stretch out your hand against the lad and do nothing to him for now I know that you fear God. Now I know that you fear God. God is going to prove in our lives, my dear 14:19 brothers and sisters, that we're serious about fearing him. I hope by now that I painted a picture enough that you ought to fear him. It's important that we fear him, but he's going to test it. By a lot, how is God prove that we really 14:29 fear him? He's going to allow us to go through loss. Something that's good. It's It wasn't sin. Isaac Isaac wasn't sin. Sin God wants to get rid of on our lives. There's no question about that. I'm talking about good things in your 14:42 life that you really want and perhaps good things like Isaac that God gave you. Good things that God gave you that he allows that he asks you to put to death as a test to see, do you really fear me? He says, "Now I know, Abraham. I saw 14:58 that you were ready to put that dagger right into your son's heart and watch him bleed to death in front of you in all that pain and misery and suffering." I'm painting a gory picture because I know, my friends, you and I have been 15:08 through those gory emotional experiences where it feels like the blood of my soul is just pouring out and I'm I'm going through that loss and I'm suffering. And God wants to do use that for a purpose. You You that Mount Moriah is the same 15:22 range on which Calvary sits. The It's the hill of Golgotha. And what God was showing here, we know that that's a picture of Calvary. And God was saying, "You think you went through loss? Guess what I went through on the on Calvary on 15:34 on Good Friday. We call it Good Friday. On that day in Calvary when I put my son there and I had to put the dagger through his heart and I didn't have anybody to stop me, but I did it anyway because I loved you that much." And you 15:46 think your loss was that great? Yes, it is. But God says, "I've shown you an example of what it feels like to experience loss. That my only begotten son I had to put the dagger through him on Calvary so that you and I might have 15:58 a way of salvation." This is the way to life. Sacrifice is the way to life. So, we prove that we fear God by we by giving up that which is dearest to us. And you the Lord is I think putting his finger on your hearts right now or will 16:14 as you think about those things which are dearest to you and he says, "I want you to give that up." Now, you may get it back in Isaac's case or you may not. I'm not guaranteeing that when God takes something away, he will give it back. 16:26 God, you know, think about Job for instance. God took away his children. He gave him other children, but those original children, yeah, he got more children later on. What do you I'm sure he had love for those other children. He 16:35 never got them back. Isaac got them back. God's ways we can't try to figure out because his ways are higher than ours. But whatever his dealings with you, if you will fear him, he will promise you he has promised you in his 16:47 word that he will turn it out for your good and that it's for his glory and that he will do something through your life and give it all back to you in eternity many times. So, this is the proof that we fear God, that we give up that which is closest to 17:00 us and we give it to him. And it may involve pain. It took Abraham some wrestling. I know it did, but he gave it up. And God will take you through that wrestling period, but when you give it up, I tell you my brother sister, you 17:09 have made the right decision. Don't second-guess yourself. When you give up that thing which God asked you to give up, you have made the right decision and see the wondrous uh marvels that God will do in your life. So, first, to fear 17:21 God means to remove all idols from your life. And God I I promise you, he'll give you circumstances to remove them. And he he won't take them out from you. God didn't just kill Isaac through sickness. He could have done that. 17:32 He didn't just make Isaac get sick and died. Uh that would have accomplished the same purpose, you think, right? No, he wanted Abraham to be the one to carry his son up there, take the dagger, and stab him in the heart. To say, "Abraham, 17:43 are you willing to do it with your own hands? Take that and do that work of sacrifice for my sake." And Abraham did. He passed the test. What does it mean to fear God? Secondly, it means to take sin seriously. Proverbs chapter 8, verse 13 says this. 18:03 The fear of the Lord is to hate evil. Hate evil. Have you ever hated somebody? I hope you haven't. It's dangerous to do that. But hatred is a is a powerful word. When you hate somebody, you know, there's uh I'm you know, I just can't stand her. 18:19 That's okay. Uh we don't get along. That's tolerable. But when you say when you hate somebody, then people think, man, something really bad must have happened. Do you see the word that God uses here? The fear of the Lord is to hate evil. 18:34 Pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverted mouth mouth I hate. And you know what it says um about Job, God gave this testimony about Job. I have that verse up there. Uh you don't have to turn to it, but you know, when when 18:46 the devil when God was testifying to the devil, it's a wonderful place to be when God can testify to the devil about you and I. Maybe nobody in the church thinks that you're such a wholehearted brother or such a zealous sister, but God tells 18:58 the devil, "Hey, have you seen my little young boy, little young girl over there in that town? You seen how how faithful he is? How faithful she is?" That's what he said about Job. Job 1:8, he says, "Have you seen my servant?" I know there's a lot of 19:11 worldly people, people who go to church and say they fear me, but they don't really fear me. But have you seen Put your name there. Have you seen so-and-so? There is no one like him or her on the earth, blameless and upright, 19:23 fearing God, how? Turning away from evil. This is Job without even a Bible. He didn't even have the Old Testament. Before the Old Testament was written, Job knew God and loved him so much and feared him so much that he said when he 19:35 saw an opportunity to sin, he turned away from it. He didn't just cherish it for a little bit and allow allow a little bit of sin in his life. You know that Job fought to be free from lust of the eyes. We're going to talk 19:46 about that in a moment. In the Old Testament, I mean before the Old Testament, before the law was given, here was a man who feared God so much that he says, "I'm not even going to lust with my eyes." He didn't need a commandment from Jesus. Let me ask you 19:58 this question, my dear brother sister, what if Jesus had not said in Matthew chapter 5 that you should not lust with your eyes? What if that commandment was not there? Would you? If Jesus said If Jesus had not said, he could have easily left out those words 20:10 and said, "You know, I'm not going to say anything about lusting with your eyes." Would that have been your excuse to lust with your eyes? If Jesus had not said that if you use your tongue in anger, you're guilty of hell, would you 20:20 have used that excuse to get angry? Then you haven't understood the fear of God. The fear of God doesn't need a commandment anymore to tell me not to sin cuz I fear God and I realize who he is and I realize that he loves me and I 20:33 stand in fear of him and I say, "I don't want to have anything to do with sin cuz I fear God." I don't even need the Bible anymore. Those are Christians who don't need the Bible and I don't mean that lightly. You don't need a Bible anymore, my dear 20:44 brother and sister. Now, I'm not saying get rid of the Bible. We need it. We do need it. But in a sense, you don't really if you have come to fear God cuz the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Another verse that we'll look at. But the 20:55 beginning of wisdom is to fear God and when I really fear God, I don't need a commandment anymore. I don't need a law that tells me don't lust don't ang- don't get angry because the fear of the Lord hates sin. The fear of the Lord is to hate and take 21:08 sin seriously. But it begins with a reverence for God's word. That means when God the littlest of his commandments, when I read something, especially in the New Testament, the epistles and the gospels, when I read commandments, especially in 21:19 the epistles, related to the church, I see that little commandment and think, "Well, I don't see anybody else in churches obeying that commandment. They say it's it's just cultural, you know, it's it's not really for our time." Those little 21:32 commandments that God has given in the New Testament, I think, "No, it's not a big deal." Such people don't fear God. You know, to me it doesn't matter whether the the policeman speaks in a soft voice or in a loud voice when he's 21:42 got the authority of the state backing him up, I listen to him. And if he speaks one sentence or 10 sentences, I I listen to him. That's fear of that's fear of the law. Imagine the God himself, and he says, "This little 21:53 commandment, I only mentioned one time in the in the New Testament." But there it is. And those who fear him will say, "I tremble at your word, God, and I dare not take your word lightly that I ignore even the least of your commandments." 22:07 Such people he can build a church. And I tell you, people are building churches, denominations, that are ignoring all of these little commandments that God takes seriously. And I'm not talking about imposing them in a legalistic way, but a 22:18 spirit that says, "God, you've given me your word for a reason. Help me to take every one of these commandments seriously." Such people can build a church. It doesn't matter if you're a man or woman, a child, such people can 22:28 build a church because they tremble at God's word. And they say, "When God, when you have said something, and when you have said, 'I want you to build a church this way, not with all those cute ideas that the world is building 22:37 denominations in, but you build your church this way,'" and they tremble at his word, they will do God's God's bidding, and he can use them for his glory. So, it's a reverence for God's word. Now, this is especially true, this 22:49 fearing of God is especially true with related to sexual sin. I want to spend most of my time now talking about that. Sexual sin is is an area that us as young people struggle with. I struggle I Let me be honest with you, I struggled 23:00 with it for many, many years. It's still a temptation for me. It's still a temptation for me and I'm married. I've been married for over 5 years now. The temptation to lust, I'll tell you this, don't be fooled. The temptation to lust 23:11 and to fall into sexual lust will not go away after you get married. If you think marriage will cure you of that and you can wait till you get married to get freed from lust, I have sad news for you, well good news for you, that you 23:23 can get free now. Is that good news for you? That you can be freed from sexual lust now before you get married. And it can continue through your marriage years. I can't tell you how many people I know of who were had a pure testimony in their single life and 23:39 then were married for some years, got into ministry and after years of ministry fell into adultery. I'll tell you why. I don't know this about their personal lives, but I know that the only reason that some man or woman could fall into physical adultery 23:51 at the age of 40 or 50 is because they didn't deal with sexual lust in their teenage years or through their 20s or 30s and it eventually manifested itself. They put on a good cover and they were pastors and preachers and preached to 24:03 all kinds of people about sexual lust. I'm sure they talked about Joseph and David and Samson and all the dangers of that, but they didn't deal with lust in their heart. And eventually it manifested in adultery. Sexual sin is very, very 24:17 serious. You know the first time the word fear of God is used? It's very interesting. The first time that the phrase the fear of God is used in the Bible is in that verse in Genesis chapter 20. When Abraham took his wife 24:30 Sarah into the land of Egypt, Genesis 20:11, he took his wife Sarah into the land of Egypt and he said, "You know what, Sarah? I want you to lie that you're my sister." What a coward. He says, "I want you to lie that you're my 24:40 sister because there is no fear of God in this place. They will sin against you sexually." The lack of the fear of God, even Abraham before the law knew that the lack of the fear of God will result in sexual immorality and it does. 24:54 When we We fear God, there's all kinds of lust in our eyes and in our lives, and you that's the reason there's lust in the world. And that that's the reason that the spirit of the world is the lust of the eyes and the lust of the flesh 25:06 because there is no fear of God. And it starts in the eyes. There's a verse that uh Paul quotes to the Romans in Romans chapter 3 that it's actually found in Psalm 36. Let me read this one to you. That the sexual lust, you know, Abraham, 25:18 like I said, was smart to know this place they don't fear God, they're going to do anything to my wife. And so, they'll kill me and try to get to her if they if they know I'm married to her. So, that's why he says, "Tell them 25:28 you're my sister. They're going to sleep with you anyway, and we'll just kind of overlook that happened in our life and get past it. I'm more worried about my life." He said there's no fear of God in this place. They will sin against you 25:37 sexually. That uh that that's the sign that there's no uh there's there's no fear of God, this outward immorality. But, it starts with the eyes. The the reason there's outward immorality, like I just said, is because the eyes, the people aren't faithful in 25:50 their eyes. Psalm 36:1 says this, "The sinner's our sin transgression speaks to the ungodly within the heart." Think about this. Listen to what he's saying. Sin speaks to the ungodly, a man who doesn't want to follow God, doesn't fear God. That's 26:06 what an ungodly man is, one who doesn't fear God. Doesn't matter if he goes to church, calls himself a Christian, says he's born again. If he doesn't fear God, if she doesn't fear God, that's an ungodly man. An ungodly man or woman, 26:16 sin speaks to them into the heart. Why? Because there's no fear of God before his eyes. Do you see how sin comes into the heart through the eyes now? Sin speaks to the ungodly within his heart, but how's it going to get into 26:31 the heart? Because there's no fear of God before his eyes. And so, the fear of God, my dear young brother and sister, is a protection for you from allowing sin to enter your heart. And once sin sin sin enters the heart, oh, it's it's so so dangerous. 26:45 Your whole life will be messed up. You will you will do the worst, most unimaginable things in your life because sin has entered your heart. Don't let it enter there. And the way to protect your heart, guard your heart with all 26:57 diligence. Proverbs 4:23, because from it come the issues of life. Guard it with all diligence. And the way you do that is you have the fear of God before your eyes. Imagine if I had blue glasses here. If I had blue sunglasses on where 27:09 everything I saw was blue. It didn't matter if you gave me something that was green, if the glasses were good enough, it looked blue to me. That pink That pink cup over there, I look at it. Well, that's blue. You ask me why that Well, 27:18 that looks blue. Because I've got those blue glasses on. And think about looking around at the world through these lenses of the fear of God. Where you say, "I'm not just going to look at it with these eyes, these lustful carnal eyes that 27:29 that I have by nature because I'm born in Adam. But now I'm a regenerated man. It's not me, but Christ lives in me. Now I look at the world through Christ's eyes. And I've got these fear of God glasses on. And then I look at that 27:41 woman that's walking down the street very seductively and dressed immodestly. And I think, well, how could I do this if I fear God? How could I look at that woman in lust? Or I have an opportunity to dress im- immodestly, man or woman. 27:53 And I think And I look at myself in the mirror and think, "Well, that's a handsome man. He's a very And I look at it through God's glasses and say, "No, I can't put that on today." I can't in the fear of God because the 28:03 fear of God is before my eyes. And I look at myself in the mirror and I think, "Really? God This is God looking at me dressed the way I am now." And I realize, "Lord, I need to put something on." It starts in the eyes. If we have the 28:18 fear of God before our eyes, it'll protect us from immorality. You know, Joseph faced this in the That's why I use him as an example in the story. This uh You can read You know the story of Joseph. He was He was seduced by his 28:30 his boss's wife because he was working in the house. The boss was away at work. And then there was he and working in the house. And sure along comes Mrs. Potiphar and she's tempting him and wears something seductive, speaks to him 28:40 sweetly, and the doors are closed. The boss is not coming home for a couple days. He could have easily sinned. There was no old daddy to I mean this guy is probably in his late teens, your age. 20s maybe. Doesn't say exactly how old he is, a 28:56 young man. He certainly wasn't 30. Cuz he was 30 many years later when he became the prince of uh of Egypt. But he was a young man in his teens or 20s and here comes this seductive woman who would have found ways to hide it if 29:09 he wanted to. He could have had a nice old time with her. And maybe you're not tempted in that same area, but you're tempted in areas in which my dear brother sister you can escape. You think you can escape. You think that 29:19 you can sin in that area and nobody's ever going to find out. Lusting with the eyes. You you could look at that girl and lust all you want. You could sit here in the youth conference and look at that other young girl sitting here in 29:28 this room. Nobody will know it. God will. He'll know whether you fear him or not. Your thoughts will be blasted like a trumpet sound up there in heaven and they'll know. It'll be blasted like a trumpet sound in heaven and the demons will know, "Oh, we 29:40 got him. We got him to look and lust again. We've got him for our kingdom." Sure he's sitting there in the youth conference. Sure he wants to follow God and sure he everybody thinks he's a wholehearted brother or sister, but he 29:50 doesn't fear me. Or he's got his little iPhone and he can look at those pictures anytime he wants and and nobody ever finds out what all he's got on that phone and or on the computer. There are secret areas in our life that 30:01 God has allowed to be secret. You do Don't you think it would have been easier for God to to um to make us in such a way that every time I lusted you knew that I was lusting. It's like, "Oh, there he goes again lusting." You know, uh it would if it 30:13 were that obvious we wouldn't sin. But because it's secret and God has allowed this area of our life to be secret because he's testing. Are you serious? Do you really fear me? If it was if it was just that every time I lusted you could tell I lusted and be 30:25 like, "Oh man, I didn't realize you could see what I was looking at." Then we wouldn't sin as often, right? But because it's hidden, because those things that go into our mind and you don't even know that I just lusted with 30:34 my eyes. It's secret because God is testing. Do you fear me in the secret place in your mind? Do Do fear me? Do you fear my word? When I say don't lust night, when I say that that will send you to hell, it's better that you go to heaven with 30:45 one eye because you took the other one out than for you to have hell be in hell with both eyes, I mean it. What are you saying there is I will send you to hell if you don't deal with this area of lust. The example of so Joseph, you know the 30:59 words that he says there, "How can I do this evil and sin against my God?" "How can I do this evil and sin against my God?" Think about that in your moment of temptation, my brother, my sister. When you're sitting there at the 31:10 computer and the temptation is there to look at that internet site or look at that little picture is something pops up on and nowadays the devil is getting very smart at bringing up these little images when you don't intend to look at 31:19 them and it's there and you think I could. Think about this phrase that Joseph said to Potiphar. Genesis 39 verse 7. No, verse 9. How could I do this great evil and sin against God? He's talking about sexual 31:37 sin there. How can I do this great sexual sin and sin against God? I fear God. I love him. I fear him. I'm not going to sin against him. You know, there's a saying in the world that says a picture is worth a thousand words. I want to use an illustration to 31:52 to describe it. You know, I I want to tell you about a little mountain that um that exists somewhere actually in this country and it is beautiful. There's this little valley and uh you know, it's kind of kind of green and then there's some mountains 32:03 um and it it it actually looks like the mountain like there was a full mountain and somebody just chopped half of it and took it out. Um and it's amazing to look at. Can you get a picture of what it looks like? Yeah? You Did Did I describe it well 32:16 enough? You want me to use a few more words? I haven't got to a thousand words yet, but think about what you just pictured based on how I described it and then look at this. Did you come even close to it? To imagining in your head. That's Half 32:30 Dome in Yosemite National Park in California. One One of the most amazing It actually looks like somebody took a knife and just sliced right down the middle, doesn't it? Very popular climbing route for climbers to climb the 32:40 face of that, the north face of Half Dome. But I'm using this just to illustrate a point that I could describe it and describe it and describe it, but all it takes is one image and it's there in your mind. You know exactly what Half Dome looks 32:54 like now if you hadn't seen it before. And I'm I and I say that to show you the power of imagery. And especially in the area of sex, when you look at images, when you look at magazines, when you look at internet sites, when you look at 33:08 uh women walking down the street, it's the image of it. If somebody described to you a beautiful woman or a seductive woman in a sexual way, it wouldn't be as dangerous as if you would actually look at that picture. They could talk for a 33:20 thousand words, and even though it's an earthly saying, there's a lot of truth to it. They could describe that sexual situation in a thousand words, and it you may it still be okay, but the moment you look at one picture, that's it. 33:32 You've got it. It's implanted in your mind. It's like it's burned onto your mind. Now, how are you going to get rid of it, my dear brother, my dear sister? It's there. The power of the image. And that's why the devil uses it. He's using it with 33:44 billboards, he's using it with advertisement in magazines, he's using it on the internet. Oh, he's using it. And now he's using it on iPhone on phones, not just iPhones. You could have a Droid and sin just as easily. But it's 33:54 on the phones because now it's there. You can have it in your hand, the opportunity to sin, and nobody will know it. But it's the secret place in which God tests, do you fear me? Is it the attitude of your heart? How can I do this and sin against my God? 34:09 How can I do this great evil and sin against my God? I That's why I believe the Potiphar's wife, you know, Potiphar's wife was the one who tempted uh Joseph. The Potiphar's wife of today, I believe, is internet pornography. I can't tell you 34:21 how many people I hear of have counseled who struggle in this area. I can't tell you how many pastors have admitted that they have struggled in this area, and it's it's it's ravaging the church. And I think the devil is especially 34:33 attacking people who call themselves Christians because those Christians wouldn't go and get a prostitute on the street cuz they'll get caught. The church people will find out. Those Christians won't go and have an affair. 34:43 Well, most of them won't go and have have an affair with their neighbor or or with somebody else because they probably will get caught. But this is an area that the devil has devised where you can go for a long period of time and not get 34:54 caught. And it's affecting women, too. Men and women are being affected by this this sin. And I encourage you if you're there, if you're struggling with it now, if it's other kinds of lust, too, I I encourage you there is hope. There is a salvation. 35:09 There is a fear of God that is available to us and I'll I'll tell you in a towards the end how we can learn to fear God so that this becomes an area that the devil doesn't have power over us no matter how much he's had, how long it's 35:20 been a an area of slavery slavery for you. There is victory in Jesus. That lust of that sexual lust, that that internet pornography lust was not was created by a demon that was defeated on the cross of Calvary. Do you believe 35:34 that? Do you believe it? Absolutely. There's not a single demon that exists in the universe that was not defeated on the cross of Calvary. And this defeated, chained, tied up demon is trying to test you and trying to attempt 35:48 you through sexual lust. And I encourage you, like we heard earlier, to come to know the love of God. And how how it is out of his intense burning fiery passionate love for you that he says, "Stay away from that site. Stay away from those friends. Stay away 36:03 from those places. Stay away Be careful with your phone. Be careful with your computer because it will drag you down. I love you so much, my daughter, my son. Be so careful. I love you so much. I don't want to hurt you." 36:15 That's why he gives us those commandments. So, your eye is like a video camera. Imagine that if I had a video camera here that we have one right there. And it And if you put a tape in it, it can go immediately to tape. Now, 36:26 fortunately, if you make a mistake or somebody videotape something that I'm embarrassed about, I can go tell Anthony, "Hey, can you delete that part where I did something embarrassing?" And then nobody gets to see it. You delete that and it's gone forever. 36:36 You can actually permanently delete stuff nowadays from cameras and discs. Uh but you know your mind's not like that. Here's the video camera of your mind. This eye, it's looking at stuff. And the images you look at, and the people you 36:49 look at, and the way you look at things are permanently burned on your mind. Permanently. I absolutely mean that with all of my heart. Permanently burned on your mind. There's nothing Even the blood of Jesus Christ can forgive those 37:01 sins, but it can't erase the memory. And it's not because it's not powerful enough, but because God has designed our minds that way. That's why this is such a serious area that when you look at something with this video camera of your 37:12 life, of your being, the eye, it goes directly in your mind and it's burned there permanently. As long as you're alive, you will remember it. And when you look at that dirty that dirty picture or that dirty movie or you look 37:23 with lust to that woman that's walking down the street or that man that's walking down the street, it is burned on your mind permanently. Your mind is that video disc or that video tape on which it's being recorded. And one day, you 37:33 know what's going to happen? We're all going to sit there at the judgment seat of Christ and God's going to start playing the tapes. He's going to put my mind up there into the video tape. Okay, hit play. From the day one, everything that I 37:42 looked at. It's not going to be people videotaping me. It's going to be me, my eyes, my mind videotaping everything else. All the things that I looked at. We've never seen that kind of a video tape yet. At least nothing like it, 37:54 close to it. And God's going to play that on the big screen, the video tape of our memory. He's going to play it back. Rewind this memory tape where there's no erase button. There is no erase button. But there is a way for those things to get 38:10 pushed further and further back into our memory. There's a way for for those images. Now, let let me clarify something here as I'm thinking about this. I don't know, perhaps the blood of Jesus Christ will erase and it'll just be blank. 38:22 Those those those areas are of our tape because it's been cleansed and what God uh he says, "Your sins and iniquities I'll remember no more. They shall be white as snow." So, don't let this bring guilt into your life. Please be careful. 38:31 I want to be careful in what I say. But, at the same time, I want you to remember that these images that you have, even after you're born again and ask forgiveness for those dirty pictures you looked at, they will probably come back 38:41 in your dreams one day. Or one day you'll remember that you looked at that picture and you'll like, "Lord, I thought you forgave me of that." Yes, he did. But, that's the thing with our minds where we can't erase the memory of those situations and 38:52 those pictures that we looked at. What we can do is to fill, you know, I believe that our mind is and I don't know if this is biblical, but I I I think this is how it works. My understanding of of the mind is that we put things into our mind and it builds 39:04 up. And if I've over years built up all kinds of filth by pictures and movies that I've looked at, and that's why the our our mind tends to remember the things we most recently looked at more quickly. And so, I remember, if I looked 39:15 at something yesterday, I'm going to remember that right away. Now, the stuff I looked at 10 years ago, it's buried down there somewhere and it might come up suddenly, but it's a little bit deeper. And so, the way to be freed from 39:25 this uh these lusts in your life is to fill your mind with God's word. And the more you fill your mind with God's word and whatever is pure, whatever is honorable, whatever is good, let your mind dwell on these things, he says. 39:37 When you do, all of a sudden you'll find that it's becoming less and less frequent that you're having those bad dreams or those bad images or those bad pictures are coming into your mind like a flash because you're filling your mind 39:48 with God's word. And with those things that are pure, good thoughts of others. It applies to thoughts about others as well. If you've been busy thinking evil thoughts of others, now start thinking good thoughts of others and you'll see 39:58 how when you see that person after many years, you'll find that that hatred is gone because you've filled your mind with good thoughts towards others. Do you have a resentment towards somebody in your past? If you're still busy 40:08 thinking about them with that resentful way, that after you see them 10, 20 years later, you'll be just as hatred hateful towards them. But, if you fill your mind with good thoughts, ask the Holy Spirit to fill your mind with good thoughts, 40:20 you see them after 20 years and you think, "Wow, where did that hatred go, God?" Because you filled your mind with good thoughts, and that's what comes out. The same thing with imagery. You know, Luke 11, let me Turn with me to this verse. Luke 11:34 40:32 says, Luke 11:34 says, "The lamp of your body is your eye." That's what I mean by when I said it's the video camera. When your eye is clear, when your when your video camera is taking in good pictures, when your video camera is 40:51 video taping good stuff, whatever is pure, whatever is honorable, whatever is praiseworthy, when it's when you're That's what it means when your lamp is clear, when your video camera is is video taping good things, then your whole body is also full of 41:03 light. Your whole body is good. Your whole being is good. But when it is bad, when your eye is looking at bad things, your whole body is full of darkness. Doesn't matter whether you go to the youth conference or attend a good church 41:14 or wear modest clothes or all these other things, whatever you think makes you spiritual, if your eye is full of lust, it doesn't matter what everybody else says about you that you're so wholehearted and you're so gifted and 41:24 such a godly young brother, young sister, your parents think that you're so such a good young girl, young boy, it doesn't matter because your eye is full of darkness. But if your eye is full of light, you might have all kinds of other 41:35 weaknesses, you might have all kinds of other faults. Let your eye be pure. Let the video camera of your mind be pure, and you will find that God is able to send his light into your life. If your if your if your eye is clear or full of 41:49 light, your whole body is full of light. Therefore, watch out that the light in you is not darkness. If therefore your whole body is full of light with no dark part at all, it shall be wholly illumined, as when the lamp illumines you with its 42:02 rays. So, see, he's talking about the the body, the the internal your whole body and your whole being. But he's saying that the gateway to to being, just like I showed you earlier, that the sin talks to the man in his heart 42:14 through the eye. So, the gateway into your spiritual being is like this gate, you know, the gate is your eye. Whatever you let in through your eye will corrupt your whole being. It doesn't matter if you read your Bible and fast and pray 42:24 and all that stuff, you've got the gate open. All kinds of filters coming in through that gate. The gateway to your spiritual being. That's how I could paraphrase the verses I just read in Luke 11. The gateway to your spiritual 42:35 being is your eye. Be very very careful with it, my dear friends. Let the fear of God be before your eyes. Let that be the gateway, so that whatever comes in is full of light, not full of darkness. You know, I told him told you about Job. 42:51 You read that verse sometime. He says, "I have made a covenant with my eyes that I will not look at a woman to lust after her." Job 31:1. This is before the law, before the law even said, "Don't commit adultery." That was for the Old 43:03 Testament. Before Jesus came with the new covenant that said, "Don't even lust." There was Job before all of that saying, "I've made a covenant because I fear God." That's why God was able to say about Job, "He fears me." This is a 43:13 man who fears me, because he's made a covenant, "I'm not going to look with lust at another woman." He was a married man, that's why he said that. And if you my dear dear young brother, young sister can make that covenant with your eyes before God, "I 43:25 will not look in lust at a man or a woman." God will use you, because he sees that you fear him. He sees that you fear him. Almost out of time, so I'll just run through these uh it'll be on the on the sheet, so the When you fear God, this is this is 43:42 the These are the promises. I dug out some promises of what God says, "If you fear me, guess what? You won't have to fear anything else." That I I quoted it yesterday, I believe. If you fear God, you will not you need fear nothing else. 43:54 That's the Living Bible paraphrase of Isaiah 8:12 and 13. And then in Psalm 112, the first eight verses, you see that he says that you don't have to live in fear of anything else when you fear me. Don't worry about who's going to 44:05 steal this or is that that boy I really like I think Lord I think you're leading us to get married but somebody else might come and steal her away or steal him away. You don't have to fear that sort of stuff. Somebody's going to come 44:14 and rob me in the middle of the night because I'm walking by myself young sister, YOU DON'T HAVE TO FEAR it because you fear God. That's a promise that's available to you. You could go anywhere in the world and walk in in God's will and you don't 44:24 have to fear anything. Proverbs 23:17 says that when you when you fear God the world loses its attractiveness. The things of this world of the the situations of the world or the the evil doers I think that's what he talks about there. They don't I don't 44:38 envy them anymore. Have you ever looked at the people who are having fun in the world and think man how can they just seem like they're having a great time? Go hang out outside a club. No, don't. But if you were to uh you'll see these people seemingly 44:48 coming out of those clubs having a great time drunk and hanging over each other men and women just flirting and just uh just promiscuous in all ways. You think man they're having such a good time. Here I am battling to stay pure. The way 44:58 to be freed from envying their life is to fear God. It's the re It's because they don't fear God that they can do those things. When you fear God you look at it and think no. I feel sorry for them. I don't They don't see the the path of destruction 45:10 that they're on. And this the attractiveness of sin loses its power when I fear God. It says that Jesus you know that Jesus had to pray. And the only reason his It says that the reason Jesus prayers were heard is not because he was God's son, not because 45:27 not even because he was righteous. It doesn't say that Jesus prayers were heard because he was a good man he never sinned or uh because if that were the case then God wouldn't hear our prayers. I've sinned, you've sinned. How's God 45:37 going to hear our prayers? Yes, he's cleansed our sins. So it's not because Jesus lived a perfect life, it's not because he was the son of God that God heard his prayers when he was on this earth. It says he was heard because he 45:45 feared God because of his godly fear. God So Jesus here he was walking as a man fully God but walking in flesh like us and he says Lord I want you to hear Father I want you to hear my prayers. I fear you. And the Father saw that here 46:00 was his son his only begotten son on earth, fearing him, living in the fear of God. He heard his prayers. That's why Jesus could pray for that sickness and it would go right away. He could pray for Lazarus and he would come out right 46:10 away. Those are just examples of prayers, but there was so many other things that prayer that Jesus prayed about. Think about the prayer in John 17 that he prayed that God that that we would be preserved in the world, the church. 46:22 We're speaking about the church. And the reason Jesus prayer was answered on this earth when he prayed that prayer is cuz he feared God. God is looking for young men and women who fear him in the same way with which to build his church. The 46:33 secret of the Lord is with those who fear him. Have you heard God tell you secrets? Do you want him to? Oh, there's some amazing secrets that God wants to whisper into your ear. He won't tell anybody else. He'll tell it 46:44 to you. He'll lean down in your ear and tell you, "Let me tell you a secret. I'm not telling anybody else. It's a secret." Have you heard God do that? Fear him. The secret of the Lord. Beautiful place to be. I long to be there all my days. Where 47:00 the Lord can say, "I got a secret. I got somebody to tell. I'm going to tell Santosh. I cuz he fears me. And that's available to all of you, all of us, my dear, equally. Doesn't matter if you're young or old. If you fear God, you will hear 47:12 God leaning down and whispering in your ear those secrets that he wants to share with you. And he gives you his favor. You know, a lot of people say they pray for God's favor. There's no need to pray for it. You don't have to pray for God's favor. 47:24 You just have to fear him. The favor of the Lord is upon those who fear him. Psalm 147, verse 11. The favor of the Lord is on those who fear him. You want God's favor? You want to be God's favorite? That's where the word favor comes from. I don't mean in 47:36 comparison to others, but you want God to choose to hang out with you. When you go somewhere, Lord, come with me. Let's hang out together because I'm your favorite. I'm your BFF, best friends forever. You want God to be that to you? 47:47 Fear him. Oh, he he gives you his favor. It'll It'll happen. You know, it says charm what the world the what the world exalts for a woman is beauty and charm. You've charming beautiful woman. Who's the most beautiful woman you think of in the 48:01 world tries to think of a beautiful charming woman. That's what the world exhausts exalts as beautiful. And the Bible in Proverbs 31:30 contrast that with the fear of God. Charm and beauty is deceitful, but the fear of the Lord 48:17 contrast a woman who fears the Lord. Let me quote that for you. Proverbs 31:30 says, "Charm and is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised." In other words, God is looking down from heaven saying, "Let me tell 48:34 you who I think is the most beautiful woman on earth." And he looks at the woman who fears him the most. He says, "She's the most beautiful woman on earth." And one day in heaven, we're going to realize that all these people that the world exalts 48:46 as beautiful because they had their hair just right and their weight was just right and their everything was just perfect and all that and all that and their eyes were just just that glassy look and all that. The world made them 48:54 look beautiful and they're Lord, you didn't think she was beautiful? Didn't fear me. And here's this woman. I don't know how old she'll be. Could be a young woman, could be an old woman. Says, "She feared me the most. She's the most beautiful woman I've ever 49:09 seen." Aspire to be that, my dear sister. Aspire to do that for us as men as well. If you seek to be handsome, it's okay to look good, but aspire to be to fear God in everything you do and God will consider that true spiritual beauty. 49:25 Let me just skip down to this last part. Turn to Proverbs chapter two. Do you want to fear God? This is how he says you can learn to fear me. Proverbs chapter two. Proverbs 2:5 he says, "Then you will discern the fear of the 49:43 Lord." This is how when you know you'll know what the fear of God is. This is when you will discern the fear of God and discover the knowledge of God. Well, whenever you see a sentence beginning with the word then, you have to back up, right? 49:59 So, you back up to verse one. Do you want to fear God, my dear brother or sister? I hope you do. I hope I have painted in my meager, frail words a picture of how valuable a thing this is, the fear of the Lord, the beginning of 50:10 wisdom. Do you want it? I want it with all of my heart, more than anything else, and this is what he says, "This is the way to get the fear of the Lord. My son, my daughter, if you will receive my sayings." This is not my sayings, but the Lord's saying. 50:21 Whatever the Lord has spoken to you this afternoon. And treasure my commandments within you. Treasure it within you. Make your ear it attentive to wisdom. Listen to wisdom. Listen to God's word. Incline your heart to understanding. 50:35 Incline is like lean it. When you hear somebody talking about spiritual things, when you hear some spiritual conversation going on, or God trying to speak some spiritual thought, lean. If you're busy running, you you you 50:47 can't run and lean at the same time, right? In other words, if you're running, doing something, busy with your thoughts, God's saying, "Stop. Stop your running thoughts for a moment, and lean. Incline your thoughts towards me. 51:02 Stop and listen. Treasure and receive God's word is the first step if you want to fear God. Secondly, verses three and four, "If you cry for discernment, lift your voice for understanding, if you seek for her as silver, and search for her as for 51:18 hidden treasures." Imagine if somebody told you there that that there was a whole lot of gold buried somewhere in this front yard. I guarantee you guys would be waiting for me to be done so you could get out there and start 51:28 looking for it. And the person who found it first got it all. If you have that kind of a hunger for the fear of the Lord, if you have that kind of a hunger for God, you will fear him. If you cry, he says, "Cry for discernment, and lift your voice." 51:41 When's the last time you, my dear friend, lifted your voice? "Lord, I want to fear you. Shout. Find a place where you're not annoying other people. Don't do it at 2:00 in the morning when everybody else is sleeping. But in your 51:55 heart, I'm not saying that you raise your voice physically. Maybe you do. But in your heart, THERE'S A SHOUT, "LORD, I WANT I want to fear you. I want to fear you, Lord. I'm sick of this life that I've been living defeated with my eyes, 52:07 defeated in that area, full of lust. I can't seem to have power." When that cry comes out within your heart, then he says in verse 5, "You won't have to fight for it anymore. Then you will discern the fear of the Lord and discover the knowledge of the 52:21 Lord." Because the Lord will give it to you. The Lord will give you wisdom. It comes as a gift from God. This fear that you want to have is a gift from God, but he's waiting to hear that you want it more than mine. You want it more than a million dollars. You 52:34 want it more than all the silver in the world. You want it more than if God was to say, "I could make you the richest man in the world or I could give you the fear of the Lord." What do you want? My dear brother young sister, do you want a 52:44 million billion dollars or do you want to fear God? And he says, "If you will value the fear of the Lord more than all of that, I'll give it to you." And if you cry for it with hunger and thirst, and I believe that cry comes because 52:56 perhaps we've been living in that lack of it for so long, defeated in sin, defeated in lust, defeated in sexual lust, defeated in all these areas, and a cry comes out from within me, "Lord, save me. I value your word. I I fear 53:08 you. I stand before you in fear." And he says, "Okay, you will have the fear of the Lord as a gift from me." That's what it means to fear the Lord. My dear brother sister, God wants to use you, with all my heart I believe it, to 53:20 build his church. But he can't do it unless you fear him. He will only use those who fear him to build his church. He can't use anybody else. Let's pray. Thank you, Father, for your word.
