Uh let's just have a word of prayer. 0:18 Our heavenly father, we want to quieten our hearts this evening and we pray that you'll speak to each one of us. Lord, we thank you that you're with us and your presence is with us. And just like we sang, we need thee every hour, every 0:36 moment. We pray that you'll open our hearts to receive your word. We all need you, Lord. We need a fresh word for you, from you. And we need grace and strength for you from you, Lord, in our daily lives. So speak to each one of us as we wait at your feet. 0:54 We ask in Jesus precious name. Amen. Um, we've been uh talking about the new test, I mean New Covenant in the past meetings and um 1:11 I was thinking uh further about the uh some of the things in the Old Testament sometimes we think like old something if it's something old is to fit to be thrown away. It's old. Let's have something new like old pots and pans, 1:28 old things. But old testament is not like that. Jesus used refer to the old testament and so many things he knew from the old testament was and things which were spoken about in the old testament were about him. He said and it was his 1:48 fulfillment of the Old Testament that uh we see in Jesus life and um in 1 Corinthians uh 10:6 we read this verse all these things which were happened 2:07 that means the things in the Old Testament were an example to the intent that we should not for example for us. That's all I want to stop there. All the things which are spoken about in the Old Testament especially the things which 2:22 happened to the children of Israel and all the their journeys is an example to us and the things that uh we read of in the uh what happened to other people, King David, other kings and what happened to them is example. The Bible 2:41 is so clear that sometimes we think why would the God want to write such details things the people how people fell and how people did wrong things just to show the longsuffering of God how he um was 2:58 patient with them and to show that they were human not covering up their faults God just like God saw them God wants everybody to see and one day in the when the Lord comes and on the final day all our things lives will be opened and 3:16 everybody will see what happened to us. So some of the things which happened to the um children of Israel are an example to us like the if you read in the book of Hebrews Hebrews chapter 3 it says many things about the children of Israel 3:33 they were discontented they craved for for things which they didn't have covetousness they had unbelief they had they had hardness in their hearts and those are some things which we as as I just read are a lesson and an 3:51 example to us that we can follow how easily we can get discontented with our circumstances or things which are happening in our life. That discontentment can come so easily to us and then the Lord wants us to remember what happened 4:07 to the children of Israel. God was patient with them for a very long time. He put up with them but there came it there was a limit to that. They God gave them food to eat and um u they were not satisfied with that. They wanted more 4:25 other things. God gave them promises. I lead you to a to a uh land which I promised to your forefathers but they didn't believe. So those things can happen to us also when we read the promises of God and we think uh when we 4:43 hear that God uh going to do this for us and give us victory over sin. We can have unbelief. No, victory is not for me. It might be for other people. Maybe that's they exaggerating. I don't believe in that kind of victory and my 4:58 background is different. We can excuse ourselves and we can think that u uh allow unbelief to come in our lives or hardness of heart. You know sometimes when we keep on um refusing to hear God speaking to us and God continues to 5:16 speak and we harden our hearts and we say yeah uh this is the limit. I can't listen I don't want to listen to these words anymore. I know a lot of people after they came to CFC for some years and after that they took things for granted 5:34 and then they um couldn't endure the teaching that they heard in the church. Now we may wonder why did God take so much trouble to speak to the children of Israel? There were so many other nations 5:50 like um uh when I think of India, it had such a good heritage and civilization long before God could have um said something about the people in some other country. But why did God choose the children of Israel? If we read the Old 6:07 Testament, we can understand that God was preparing a nation. He he in the long uh uh things that happened throughout uh time after Adam and Eve sinned, they sinned because of disobedience. After they sinned, God 6:27 wanted to God told them the I'll give you a solution. Um I'll send my son. The seed of the woman will crush the serpent's seed serpent's head. So God wanted to bring a the savior into the world and so God was preparing a 6:45 people. He he just didn't want to send uh Jesus uh the son of god into the world and nobody would know. So he was preparing a people and um so he was throughout the ages it took a long time to prepare a nation and so he 7:04 he started with Abraham. We know that God chose Abraham. He was just a nobody living in a in U of the Cales and God called him and he told him, "I'll bless you and I'll make a great nation out of you." And Abraham didn't understand. But 7:22 God knew that through Abraham would come a nation and God would prepare the people in that nation and give them laws so that they know how to live a godly life and they come closer and they know more of God. And then he would send 7:40 Jesus into that nation and Jesus would die for the sin of sins of the world. and then um red uh from every nation he would pick up people to be his chosen people and inherit the kingdom of God 7:57 and God would set up the rule in the earth and from every nation people would come and be part citizens of that kingdom but God had to choose a nation first and sometimes I wonder why did God choose Abraham 8:16 like why Didn't God choose Mary to bring Jesus into the world? He could have there were so many girls in that um in Palestine at that time but God chose Mary. There were so many people in um in the world and even in that town there 8:34 may have been people who were God could have chosen but why did God choose Abraham? I I wonder but then when we read God's word we find that Abraham had faith in God's promises. We know I don't want to bring all those references but 8:52 we read even in the New Testament it says that Abraham believed he had faith even though he was an old man. God promised him uh a son and he believed that he would have a son. He had that faith and we are descendants of Abraham 9:09 by faith. If we have that faith, if God has promised us something, God has promised us victory, then we can have faith. Yes, victory is possible for me also. Not just for this person and that person, but for me also, victory is 9:24 possible. So, we can have that faith, faith in God's promises. That's what Abraham had. And the another thing about Abraham was that he responded to God. He he obeyed God. when God told him, "Leave this land and you come out." And Abraham 9:42 didn't know where he was going. We read in Hebrews, he went not knowing where he was going. He God just said, "I'm going to take you somewhere to the land I promised." And he just followed. And he that is the obedience which Abraham had. 9:57 And that's a lesson for us. When the Lord tells us something, obey immediately. We can't we should not say yeah when it's convenient for me I don't be or I don't really feel like doing like sometimes our children say when we 10:11 tell them say mom I don't feel like I don't feel like doing it we can in our hearts we can say I don't feel like doing that but what God saw in Abraham was that he obeyed without any question and God told took Abraham outside and 10:28 said look at this task I'll make your descendants like multi multiply them like stars on the sky and he didn't have even one son and he could have thought God are you joking I don't have and I'm so old how will I have a son and you're 10:45 telling me that I'll have descendants like that but God but Abraham obeyed whatever God told him that's a lesson for us obedience we hear so many words in the church and we think like um I really don't want to do it and In this 11:02 culture, this is not the proper thing to do. A simple thing like a head covering, I used to think like when God's word says just put something uh on your head, we may think like nobody in the uh in in nowadays cover their head. Why should I do it? But when 11:21 we take the trouble to obey God's word, it's written in God's word and we do that. Then God sees, yeah, my child, I'm happy with you. I see you have taken a simple test of obedience like that. Anything which the Lord shows us if we 11:38 are ready to obey then we are we'll have the blessing of Abraham. Uh then he says uh that another thing about Abraham was he had that spirit of sacrifice. When God told him to sacrifice Isaac, he could have thought 11:57 God this is the son you have promised. Isaac is the one you promised and you're telling me to sacrifice. Is it true? I I Lord I want you want to think about it again. Can I can I come back to you later and find out if you really want 12:15 it? Or maybe I can find Ishmael and sacrifice him or something. But God uh when God told him to sacrifice Isaac, he was ready and he took Isaac. Now Isaac was a young man. He was able to carry the wood on his shoulders. So he was not 12:32 a baby or a little child as we think. He was a young man and he um he was ready to sacrifice. Then another thing about sac uh Isaac uh about Abraham we read in Genesis 18 verse 19 a 12:50 very precious word which which often speaks to me. Genesis 18 verse 19 he says God said about Abraham verse 18 he says Abraham shall surely 13:07 become a great and mighty nation and all the nations of the world shall be blessed in him for I know that he will command his children and his household after him and they shall keep the way of the Lord to do justice and judgment 13:24 that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he had spoken for him. So God knew God saw in Abraham that quality he is going to bring up his children in a godly way and that really spoke to me when God speaks to us is is that what he 13:44 sees? I said, "Lord, please look into my heart and see that's what I really want to I want to be like that that uh what you said about Abraham that he would bring up his children in a godly way." If you see in my heart also that desire 14:02 to bring up my children in a godly way, that's all I want Lord. I don't want to boast that my children are like that and they are smart and they are well behaved or that they are um they obedient or they do things everything right and the 14:20 world and people who see them think oh they are wonderful children Lord far from it I don't want that at all I don't want any glory for myself but if you can say that I want to bring up my children in a godly way and you are happy with 14:36 that. That's all I want. And there's proof for that. I found that when Abraham told Isaac and he took him up the mountain, Mount Mariah, and and Isaac asked him, "Dad, we're going to worship God. We're going to make a sacrifice, but where's the 14:55 lamb?" And Abraham said God would provide. And we don't know what tears must have been in Abraham's heart when he said that. And then he told Isaac, "Now you lie down on the altar." And they tied him up. Then Isaac knew I am the 15:13 sacrifice. He could have struggled and wanted to get out, but he this verse verse was proved. He Isaac's response proved that Abraham had brought up Isaac in the correct way. When is when Abraham 15:29 said, "You're the sacrifice, my son, Isaac knew my my dad is right. He whatever he has taught me is the right thing. I'm going to obey." And what tears must have been in um Abraham's eyes when he was lifted up the knife to 15:49 kill his son and sacrifice. He was really going to do that. It's not like a joke. He knew my son. This is the last time I'm seeing my son. And God saw that. God saw that yes, first of all, you obeying me. You love me more than your son, your 16:08 only son. I am the most important person for you. I have seen that. I am happy about that. And besides, you brought up your son in a good way that he's willing to be uh sacrificed. God saw that and God said, "This is the man I'm going to 16:27 bless. He's going to be the blessing. Through him, all the families of the earth will be blessed because I've seen I have seen in uh Abraham a godly nature." What is God's nature? God's 16:43 nature was that is that he was willing to give up his only son Jesus for us to die on the cross from heaven. He watched the people piercing his hands and his feet and insulting him, abusing him and 17:01 such pain and agony Jesus went through and God from heaven was watching him and allowing him to be a sacrifice. In Isaac's case, um, God didn't let Isaac die, but God took the ultimate step when he allowed 17:18 his own son, only son to die for us. That's what God saw in Abraham that he loved he loved God more than his son. He loved God more than anything and was willing to obey. And that's the godly nature 17:36 that God saw. So God made a a covenant. God made a covenant with Abraham. God said because I have seen you do this even and you accepted all my promises 17:54 and you're willing to believe and you respond to whatever I said. I'll bless you. I'll bless you in such a way that you'll be a blessing to all the nations in the world. If God were to tell us, I I'll bless you and you'll be a blessing 18:11 to your home or you'll be a blessing in your church. But how much more God told Abraham, I'll be you'll be a blessing to the whole earth. And in Hebrews 8, it says we can get that blessing of Abraham in the new covenant. We can also be a 18:29 blessing to people. God can use us to be a blessing to many people in the world and say I say Lord I want that blessing. I want the blessing of Abraham where wherever I go I'll be a blessing not only in my home in the church or 18:46 whichever place if I travel to someone in a flight or in a train or in a bus and I meet Lord make me give me that blessing of Abraham and many times I have that was a yearning in my heart and God give me a joy. I remember one time 19:05 waiting in an airport uh for my flight and I was wearing my Indian dress and there was a it was somewhere in America and this lady came and sat next to me and she liked Indian things and she said oh you're from India can you tell me 19:20 something about reincarnation you know how the new age people a new age thinks they and she was so much excited and and I I said Lord I really want to speak I don't want to you lose this opportunity So I said yes I'm from India. I lived in 19:37 India most of my life. I've just come to visit my children about uh and she asked about the horoscope you know what the stars tell about her. She wanted to know more about that because she knew I was from India. So I said yeah my 19:52 forefathers must have believed like that but I found the god who made the stars and he can tell us about the future much more than the stars can tell. And I said, "Yes, reincarnation is not the correct word. If we really believe in 20:08 Christ, we'll have a new life and he will live in us and for all eternity we'll be living with." Um, that's the real meaning of reincarnation. And I when I said the word Christ, like she didn't want to hear anymore, but she was 20:22 very polite. She said, "Thank you. Um, I'm so happy to hear from you." I said, "And I'm happy to hear that your religion is real." So I thought how Christianity came to the west and people rejected it and now God has doing a work 20:40 a revival and bringing people into into repentance. I said Lord wherever I go let me be willing to to speak a word for you and God few opportunities sometimes when I travel I just take my New Testament and I read it. Usually I'm with my husband but 20:59 there may be a third person sitting next to him and then they see us reading the Bible and they think okay they are Christians. If they want to ask something they can ask us. So wherever we go we can be a blessing. In the 21:13 schools where we take our children or in the playground we see other people and and they say they see our children playing and they think these children are really well behaved. There must be something about them. I remember a 21:29 neighbor of Megan's was watching the children play and then they and parents were playing with the children and they said this must be a Christian family. I don't want to tell the rest of the story but just watching the children play and 21:43 our interaction with the children will be a witness. So we can have we can God can make us a blessing and give us that blessing of Abraham wherever we go. And God said um I'll your descendants I'll multiply your descendants and they'll be a blessing. 22:03 But he God couldn't tell more and more details that the uh savior would come through Abraham's descendants. That was too much for Abraham to but Abraham must have had a little bit of godly a glimpse of godliness when he offered up Isaac 22:20 and things like that. And but God told Abraham that your descendants you'll have lot of descendants but but they'll be slaves they'll be enslaved for 400 years that he told them told Abraham and he said I'll make a covenant like like a 22:37 promise le like you you write something and I'll write something we make a promise and he said you do your part you and your descendants must be circumcised that means the meaning of that is you have no confidence in the flesh. You cut 22:55 off all your strength and just like you didn't have any children. You're too old to have any children just like that. You should have no confidence in your flesh. You depend on me. That is the mark of circumcision. I think if you 23:11 I'm not a Bible teacher but you can do some study on that circumcision. And circumcision is like a in the new covenant is about us dying to ourselves and putting our flesh to death. Everything that as I said earlier everything in the old testament is an 23:29 example for us and was fulfilled in Jesus days and prophetic is going to be fulfilled in the coming days. Then um then the children of um just fast forwarding the children of Israel, Abraham's descendants became slaves in 23:48 in Egypt and God chose Moses uh to lead his children back. And how did God prepare Moses? That's also an example for us. First first few years he was with his parents. Then Moses understood 24:08 uh my my my people are suffering they are slaves and he got a true glimpse of that slavery. Then he got a chance to grow up in the palace where he had lot of luxury and uh learning he understood everything about construction and leadership and that was 24:28 also a training. Then got that was for 40 years. Then we know fast forward he went into the wilderness. He had to run away for his life and there living in the wilderness that was also a preparation. He had to lead the children 24:43 of Israel through the wilderness for so many years and he knew every bit of the wilderness where how could how you could survive without water and all the poisonous things all the things about the wilderness he knew. So everything 25:00 that happens in our life also we can say sometimes it's uh slavery sometimes it's freedom sometimes it's struggling with our little children sometimes it's problems with teenagers whatever it is 25:17 or health problems whatever it is that everything God has a plan every circumstance has been planned by God and he has a way out of it I want to tell um an incident which happened. Um there was um in Bangalore when when our 25:35 children when my oldest son was very small, there was a time when uh we met some families and there was a very godly family. He was a he was ordained priest in another church and it was Easter time and they were having a 25:53 practice for the Easter service and um his uh while the practice was going on his he had some teenage children they went for decided to go for a picnic to a lakeside and while the service was going 26:10 on these children went into the to the lakeside and they had a picnic And they were partying and suddenly while and they went into the lake and dipped themselves in the lake and they were they were 26:27 having a good a lot of fun in the lake. Then suddenly a herd of buffaloos or cattle got into that lake and muddied made that water so muddy and made it so turbulent. Some of the young people managed to get out. But this pastor's 26:44 two children were there in the water and they couldn't get out and they drowned in that lake and somehow they had to drag the u the bodies of these two children from that lake and they brought it um and it was Easter time while the 27:00 people were practicing the church were practicing for the good Friday service it was a funeral service of these two that made a great impression in my heart. I said Lord and let I I said Lord let and that time I had just one son. My oldest son was 27:20 about two or three years old at that time. I said Lord let this be a lesson to you lesson to me that I want to take your word seriously and whenever your word is being preached in where I want to make sure that I teach my children to 27:38 respect your word. So after that we started having meetings in our home and every time we started we would sit for meetings I would remember the story. I said Lord let my children grow in your fear all the time. Let them let me not 27:56 be let them not go into the world and try to get get into that worldly habit and get to enjoy the things of the world. But let them get to learn to love your presence 28:11 and be in your presence. And I said Lord in those days we started having meetings in our home. So I wanted to teach my children that remember always God God is here. God's presence is here. We must 28:29 have um we must uh always remember when God's people are meeting together his presence his he is here don't and I keep them with me and I would say um u you can look at some book or something 28:48 but I don't want you to distract others. I don't want you to make any noise or anything, but just look at the books and write something. And when they were old enough to write the verses, I'd show the verse on the Bible and they would copy 29:04 that and spend um a long time writing that word in the in their notebooks. So I teach them to respect God's presence. God is here. In 1 Corinthians 14 verse 25, I want to read this verse. when uh 29:21 when we meet together when in the church every when it says about uh Paul says about meeting together he says when people come together in God's house in the church and verse 25 when they hear the secrets 29:40 of our hearts are manifest and they fall down on their face and they worship God and listen and I want my wanted my children to remember this This is God's house. God's presence is here. We should not do anything that will disturb people, that will distract 29:58 people and and most of all the time it was God my husband was would be speaking. So it was my responsibility to keep my children quiet. So one would be on my lap and one would be on either side of me, one on this side and one on 30:14 the other side when we started meeting. And I try to keep them quiet so that they they learn to fear God. They learn to reverence God. I find like when we in Indian when you travel around in India, you see you pass by some temples and you 30:31 see what a fear there is of and reverence for their place of worship and how much more in God's house. When you go to uh people of other religions, they go God's presence, they want to have that fear, a fear of God they have. But when 30:50 for us as uh children of God, how much more we should teach our children, God is here, you must be respectful. You must um you must um honor God. You must see that God's presence is here. Then while Moses was 31:09 in the um in the on the mountain and God was giving him all those laws, what were the people doing? They they made that golden calf. We know that story and we and they started worshiping. And now this golden 31:27 calf is seems to be something that's many in many parts of the world like worshiping a image of a calf. Um especially I find that in India is so common and we can point our finger at 31:45 them and say that is idolatry. But if we look in our hearts idolatry can be the in our heart also. Anything that takes the place of God can become an idol to us. our jobs, our wealth, our 32:05 homes, our children, anything can take the place of God. In in our Indian culture, especially um unbelievers, they save a lot of money for their daughters and they give them 32:21 jewelry as part of the saving or some cash. So they that jewelry can become an idol for us. Lot of people lot of girls they think that that that is everything for them. They want to flaunt their jewelry and they want to and wherever 32:41 they go that's like a they want to they are conscious of the fact that oh this jewelry must be taken care of. And when God speaks to us and he says yeah you have these idols in your life. What should what was Zakius's response 33:00 when God spoke to him? Zakius when God Jesus spoke to him, he said, "Lord, I have all this wealth which I have accumulated. I'll set right I'll give half of my money to the poor and I'll set right the things which I have 33:17 taken wrongfully." And God Jesus said, "Today salvation has come to you." Whereas another person, a rich young ruler, he didn't want to give up his wealth and God uh he he couldn't become a disciple 33:33 of Jesus because uh he loved his wealth so much. God saw he he couldn't give up his wealth. God sees in our heart in when he looks at us he what can he see? Does he see that there is some idol in 33:50 our life? Maybe our job or our children or anything is it is that become an idol. Even the testimony that we want to have a good name that I'm a good mother that can become an idol in our life. The lord wants us to give up every idol and 34:09 turn to him alone. Then in Mount Si uh when God when the ch children of Israel were worshiping that golden calf, God was giving his laws to Moses and those laws if we read in 34:27 Exodus and Leviticus they were all external laws that you should do this, you should do not do this. But in the new covenant, in the new testament we can apply it in our lives like um in the old testament it says about that you 34:44 should not murder. When Jesus said came, he said if you have anger in your heart against anyone that is just like murdering that person in in all in uh in the ten commandments it says that you should not commit adultery but Jesus said I came to 35:03 fulfill there's more than that if you have lust in your heart then that is just the same as adultery. So everything that is in the Old Testament was given to us as a fulfillment uh given to us more. Jesus came to show that there's more than that. It's not 35:23 just um external things. It's in our heart. Uh we can we should not it says that we should not bow down to idols but having a covetous attitude can be like idolatry in our lives. So when Jesus came 35:41 uh and the and uh the many things which happened in the in the tabernacle like the oil anointing oil all that was the is that is a picture of the Holy Spirit anointing of the Holy Spirit and 35:59 Jesus when he came he used very simple illustrations like he said you're the salt of the earth. You're the light of the earth. I I have some um uh pract uh thing home examples of salt. I remember 36:17 one time when I was cooking and I you know one of our Indian side dishes is when we make a cabbage. It's easy to cook. It goes along with rice. So those days when we were having meetings in our home, uh I cook the rice and I'd make a 36:35 side dish with cabbage. You cut it into fine shreds and then you cook it just very little. It doesn't shouldn't get overcooked and then you add a little coconut and then you add the salt. So I did the same. And then I did that to a 36:49 cabbage and added the salt and I tasted it. Before I added the salt, it was nice and crunchy. It was perfect. Then I added the salt and I stirred it and I tasted it was not the same thing that I had made that I had wished. Every bite I 37:06 could only bite sand in it and I stirred it and I took some more. There was sand in it and I thought this is not the cabbage that I wanted to serve because we were having um guests after um after the church service. we were going to 37:22 have guests there. And uh then I realized, oh, let me check. I didn't drop the cabbage on the ground or anything. What happened to the cabbage? I took a little bit of the salt and put that in my mouth and I could taste the 37:39 it was more than the saltiness. It was the sand that I could bite. You know how in India people adulterate even salt. They put um marble powder or something you know powdered sand which looks like salt in the salt and it was a new 37:55 packet. It was a packet which had not used and I took a pinch of that salt in my mouth and I could only bite the sand in it. Then I thought of the word of words of Jesus. If the salt has lost it savor what's the use of it? I had to 38:14 throw away the cabbage and the salt and everything. So um that whenever I read that verse you are the salt of the earth I think of that I said Lord I want to have that purity in my life I don't want to be 38:32 adulterated with anything of this world let me be the salt a little bit of salt is enough to bring taste to the food let let me have that purity in my life and when Jesus said about light. You're the light of the world. I thought of this. 38:50 You know in in a very often in India there's power cut and we don't have electricity. So we resort to some kerosene lamps you know with you have to change wipe the glass and everything and there's a kerosene oil. What's the substitute for that? You 39:10 use kerosene here and there's a weak and then there's a glass covering it. So we have to be so we had to be so careful to wipe the glass so carefully so it doesn't get smokeoky so that light would come out. Then we had to keep it in a 39:27 place where everybody could get the light of it. And then the words of Jesus came real to me. You you your light should be there for others not for you to see but for others to be blessed. And if there's all that coating of this dirt 39:42 of this world around it, it's not going to bless others. Or if you hide it in some corner where it not going to be of any use to others. So those things really spoke to me and if your right hand offend you, cut it off. It says 39:59 uh I thought of many instances like that where the Lord spoke to me and said, "This thing is so offensive. You have to do without it. You can do without it. The Lord used so many used the scripture especially the words of Jesus to speak 40:19 to me many things in my daily life. And the L the Holy Spirit brings the words of Jesus um and brings it to us um reveals Jesus to us. He deals with us. uh he says u 40:38 like for instance he says if you're right if your eye offends you pluck it out we um dealing with our thought life if we have any thought in our life which uh judgmental thought about others or critical thought of others then the lord 40:57 says take it out of your life immediately pluck it out may the lord help us in our daily life to bring up our children um in a godly way in these days. 41:15 Shall we close in prayer? Our heavenly father, we praise and thank you for this time you've given us. Thank you Lord that we can come to you and we Lord, we need your grace and your strength. 41:33 We pray that you'll help us, Lord, as we bring up our children in your go in godliness. Help us, Lord. Give us grace. We pray that you'll make us a blessing like the blessing of Abraham. We'll be a blessing wherever we 41:50 go. Thank you, Lord, for your word. Your word which is a light to our path. We pray that you lead us. Help us to read your word and get wisdom and understanding from our for our daily lives from your word. Thank you for each sister who is here. 42:09 We pray that you'll bless bless their home. We pray that you'll help us Lord to be faithful to you in these days.
