When we go out, we don't wear the same clothes that we wear. 4:35 The inside is more important than the outside. It doesn't matter if your house is not painted. Is it comfortable to live inside? 4:56 How do the people inside the house live with each other? Think of some rich person has built a beautiful house and inside they're all husband and wife are fighting and quarreling. 5:18 What sort of house is that? Then it's better to live in a little hut where the inside, the husband and wife love one another and are live happily. The inside is important. 5:38 We are not saying that the outside is not important. But generally speaking, in human beings, we care more for the outside appearance than for the inside. So, now think of the real house of God, which is you. 5:59 This house looks so nice on the outside and so nice on the inside. That's wonderful. That's how it should be. What about your house? This house. 6:20 People look at you on the outside, it looks so nice. Supposing they could come inside you. Does it look so nice on the inside? Or, does it need some repair? 6:43 If this wall is broken down, they will seek to repair it immediately. If the roof is leaking, they will repair it immediately. We are not happy that, oh, other people think it is a good building, it doesn't matter if it leaks. 7:05 We never say that. We say, what's the use of other people saying it is a nice building, if it is leaking? What's the use of other people saying it is a nice building, if the wall is cracked? And what is the use of other people saying it is a nice building, if it is a nice building, it needs a lot of repair. 7:35 We must be careful about our inside, as much as we are careful about the inside of a building. When the Lord told them to make a tabernacle in the Old Testament, Exodus 25, 7:55 He told them in verse 8, You have to make this as a holy place, in which I can live. So, the main purpose of that tabernacle was not just to show other people, all the Philistines and Moabites and all, oh, what a wonderful tent this is. 8:29 Now, He says it is a place where God says, I have to live. So, we can learn something from that. The most important thing about this house of God, our body, 8:51 God says, I want to live there. Supposing you are getting a guest to come and live in your house. Oh, I am sure you will give him the best room. I have been in many houses where the husband and wife vacate their best room and ask me to stay there. 9:25 Do it up so nicely. Think how we must keep our heart when we ask Jesus to come and live there. Do you take as much care for your heart every day as you would for a guest who has come to live in your house? 9:48 Do you take as much care for your heart every day as you would for a guest who has come to live in your house? Do you take as much care for a guest who has come to live in your house? Do you take as much care for a guest who has come to live in your house? 9:51 Do you take as much care for a guest who has come to live in your house? Do you take as much care for a guest who has come to live in your house? Would you allow your guest to live in a room where the roof is leaking? Do you take as much care for a guest who has come to live in your house? 10:02 Do you take as much care for a guest who has come to live in a room where the roof is leaking? No. You know, brothers and sisters, we give more respect to our earthly guests than to Jesus. It doesn't matter if your guest room is not very nice and painted and all that. 10:31 You may be poor, so you cannot afford to make a wonderful guest room. But our heart, we must always keep it perfect for Jesus to live there. 10:52 The first time God said to build a house for me, He said, I want to live there. And when they built it, we read here in Exodus 40. 11:14 Verse 34. The glory of the Lord filled the house. That was the most important thing. Not the color of the curtain or the wall or the pillars or any such thing. 11:38 No. The glory of God was there. That must be how it is in our personal life. So, when you think of a nice building like this that we have got now. We have to think of two other houses. 12:02 One is our heart. And the other is our home where we live. How is our heart? How is our home? When Jesus lives in our heart, is everything in our heart perfectly clean? 12:25 You will not give a guest a room which is all dirt and mud on the floor. I have been in many poor people's homes. They have never given me a room which is dirty. Even the poorest person, even if it is a small room, they will give me a clean room. 12:54 The Lord is not asking us for a big place, but a clean place. So, that's the first lesson we need to learn. Every time you come on Sunday and other days to see this building, You ask yourself two questions. 13:17 From what you hear today. Number one. Is my heart as clean and nice looking as this building? In the inside. Secondly. Is my home, the way I live with my husband and wife and children, 13:38 as clean as this building? You must remember that. Every time you come here. Lord. This reminds me. I've got to keep my heart clean. 13:59 Because this is not the house of God. This is a building. God doesn't live here. When you all go away. Jesus is not here. Now, Jesus is here. Why? Because we are here. When we all go away. 14:20 Jesus goes away. He is not in this building. So, remember that. It's your heart that is the real building. And the inside is as important as the outside. We paint the outside. 14:40 We paint the inside. Outside looks nice. Inside looks nice. The meaning is that our outward testimony before all the people must be good. And our inward testimony before God must also be good. 15:06 And our inward testimony before God must also be good. Here we read about Samuel going to select a king for Israel as God told him. Because the first king, Saul, was a failure. 15:27 So, he said, go to Bethlehem to the house of a man called Jesse, verse 1. And I'll select one of his sons to be the king. So, he went to Jesse's house and Jesse brought his sons before him. 15:50 Now, Jesse had eight sons. But he brought only seven of them before him. The youngest boy, David, he said, no use calling him. He cannot be. He called only seven. 16:13 And then, the first smart, tall-looking chap called Elia, verse 6, came before Samuel. And Samuel looked at his height and face and said, Oh, definitely, this is the one the Lord has chosen. Verse 6. 16:46 And the Lord said, no. Don't judge by a man's face or height. This is not what I have chosen. You should not make your decisions the way men make. 17:06 Man looks on the, verse 7, on the outside, God looks at the heart. So, it doesn't mean that our outward testimony is unimportant. Our outward testimony is very important. 17:31 It's like the outside of the house. Let's see what Jesus said in Matthew 5, in verse 16. It's about our outside testimony. That is the outside of the house. That people look at the outside. 17:52 People look at the outside of our life. And he says, let your light, so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your power. So, is our outside important? 18:13 When you build a new house, don't you make sure the outside also looks nice? Yeah, that is important. So, here the Lord says, don't think your outside is unimportant. 18:33 People must look at the way you live, the way you speak, the way you do things, your humility, your spirit of service to them. And they may, they have to say, there's something different about this person. 18:55 You know, I have heard many people who got converted like that. They see how somebody behaves in an office. They say, why are you like that? I used to work in the Navy. And in the Navy, the officers have many parties many times. 19:23 And in those parties, the first thing they all do, before they eat any food, is drink. They drink so many alcoholic drinks. 19:44 And they would always see me, always standing with some orange juice. And one of the prayers I used to pray was, Lord, please give me a chance to witness to these people. It's not easy to go and talk to these naval officers who are only interested in money and fun. 20:16 But it's very difficult to start telling them about the gospel. But in these parties, they would see me standing with these orange juice. And they say, hey, why are you not drinking? I said, okay, now you asked a question. 20:35 I'm going to give you a long reply to that. And I'd give them the gospel. So it was a wonderful, even a small thing like this, it was a wonderful opportunity. But in your place of work, that you are upright. 21:00 See, I heard a story of a very God-fearing cobbler who used to repair shoes. He would always repair shoes perfectly, even though he was a poor man. So he had a little boy who used to work with him. 21:27 And he told his master one day, why are you using this high-quality leather and all to repair these shoes? And all these other cobblers, they use all third-rate leather so that the people will come back quickly with the spoiled shoes for further repair. 21:48 That way, we can make more money. So, so the cobbler told him, he said, I'm a Christian. One day, I shall stand before the judgment seat of Christ. 22:13 And when my turn comes to stand before him, there will be a big, there will be a big pile of shoes next to the judgment seat of Christ. All the shoes I repaired. 22:34 And the Lord will take each shoe. And if I did not do it properly, he will say, John, why did you use this useless leather to repair this shoe? 22:55 What will I say? Can I say, because I wanted to make more money? I am more worried about that day than today whether I can make more money. I was worried about it. I was worried about it. 23:16 You know, when we are upright and honest as Christians in our work, other people wonder, why are you doing that? We have an opportunity to testify. I had an opportunity when I was in a ship to testify to the senior officers. 23:38 I could say, I am not doing my work to please you. Whether you see me or don't see me, I will do my work faithfully because I do it to please God. 24:00 So our outward testimony must be good. But the inside, God looks at the heart. That must also be good. Both we have to be careful. For example, if you have a neighbor living close to your house, you know how in our Indian homes, 24:24 the houses are so close. Guys, so if you have a fight in your house, your neighbor knows about it. How is your testimony before your neighbor? 24:45 Very important. What do your neighbors hear in your house? All houses you will find shouting and quarreling. So that is like darkness. So in the midst of that, God places a Christian home. 25:10 Where there is peace. It's not that that home doesn't have problems. All homes have problems. Christian and non-Christian. Sickness and death come to Christian homes and non-Christian homes. But in the midst of that, 25:30 we can have peace. And that can be a testimony to people. So, by that light, people can be drawn to Christ. That they can come and see what God has done in your life. 25:54 And likewise, inside in the areas of our life that other people cannot see. That's like the inside of the house. You know, for example, how you deal with money. If you shout and quarrel in your home, everybody can hear it. 26:14 But, when you do unrighteous things with money, nobody knows it. You can do something unrighteous in your office and your wife also will not know it. There, God sees. And I must always remember. 26:37 Oh, I see the inside of the building is just as nice as the outside. So, Lord, the inside of my heart must also be just as pure and loving just like people see me on the outside. See, some of you 27:02 get the opportunity to preach God's word somewhere in your church or somewhere. when you preach God's word, what a wonderful impression you give to people as a very holy man. 27:26 Every preacher in the world who stands up in a pulpit always gives people the impression I am a very holy spiritual person. But, what does your wife think? 27:48 I heard in one church in England there was one preacher who got up and was preaching some wonderful things. How you must live in a wonderful way at home and all that. He was not living 28:09 in a good way in his own home. So, his wife was sitting there. So, she shouted out. Don't forget I am sitting here. Don't say all those things. I know how you live in my house. 28:31 Your wife may not be so bold to say that in the church meeting. But God, he sees our heart. He sees our home. And we must be careful 28:52 that everything we give the impression on the outside is exactly the same. in the church meeting. He sees our home. He sees our home. He sees our home. He sees our home. He sees our home. Even if it's not been true like that 29:07 till today. At least from today. Let's do that. We look at this house and say, Lord, this is so beautiful on the inside and outside. So I want it to be like that from today in my heart and in my home. 29:31 I want to show you another example in 2nd Kings chapter 12. In 2nd Kings chapter 12, we read of Joash. Joash was a king of Israel. 29:54 And during his time, it says here, he told the people in verse 4, the kingdom, the temple building needs repairing. so please use the money that comes in to repair 30:15 the house of the Lord. But we read further after some years nothing was done. Then verse 7, he asks the priest, why haven't you done something to repair the temple? 30:36 So now on, don't use all the money for your own needs, but use it to repair the temple. So what they did, they made a big chest, a box in verse 9 with a hole and people would come and put money 30:56 into it. And they would take that money and verse 11 and 12 give it to all the masons and the people, carpenters and all to build the temple. 31:19 And this is the verse I want you to see. Verse 15. There was no accounting required from those who constructed. They didn't ask for any bills. They were honest and faithful men. what a testimony. 31:47 Imagine giving somebody one lakh rupees please used to build the building and saying I don't want any bills. what a fantastic testimony to 32:08 faithfulness. That they didn't have to give a bill for all the money they got. see money is the big area where we can all be tempted. 32:32 And if you can be faithful with money that in money matters you are faithful. That's a great testimony. That people can trust you saying I don't need any bill from that 32:52 person. I can even give him 10 lakhs. I don't need any bill. It's amazing that in the Old Testament before the before the Holy Spirit came there were people like this. 33:12 And they used the money faithfully to repair the house of God. Then let me show you one more example in the Old Testament of how the house of God was built. you know in the days of Solomon 33:33 they built the temple. And they would read about it in 1 Kings chapter 6. And you know those days they didn't build with bricks they built with stones. 33:55 today also now and then you see somewhere some building built only with stones. So they bring the stones from the quarry. And they want to come and build it here. 34:16 Now see this wonderful verse. 1 Kings chapter 6 verse 7. The stones used in the construction of the temple were finished in the quarry. So the entire building was built without the sound of any hammer or axe or tool at the 34:34 building. can you imagine building a building like that today? 34:56 Where one stone is put on top of another stone and it doesn't have to be chipped it's perfect. You don't have to chop it a bit or to fit it in. Not just a small wall the whole temple there 35:19 is no sound at the temple. The sound was all in the quarry where they were getting the correct dimension and shaping it and putting it. all the corner stones and 35:39 everything was shaped over there. What is the spiritual meaning of this? It's a picture of a church where there's no quarrelling. No sound. No fighting. 35:59 It's not because we are all so holy. but in the quarry that is when we are alone by ourselves we judge ourselves and make the stones perfect. That's why there's no quarrelling in public. 36:23 See if I judge myself in my heart every day then that is in my private life where nobody can see. That is like the quarry where they cut the stones. And there I shape my heart correctly. 36:46 I come in fellowship with another brother who is doing the same thing in his heart. when we come to work together there is no rubbing and fighting. There is no sound of hammer or axe or anything. 37:07 How happy God will be if he finds a church like that. And there we read again the glory of God filled the temple. Now let me show you another thing in Haggai. This is another 37:27 place where we read about a building of a temple. You know the children of Israel had been in Babylon for many years. And then after 70 years God brought them back to Israel. But you know what they did? 37:49 came there and built their own houses but they didn't build the temple of the Lord. And they lived comfortably in their nice beautiful houses. And they didn't care for the temple of the Lord. So the 38:09 Lord says Haggai chapter one verse two why is everyone saying it is not the right time for building the temple of the Lord. What about your own house? Is it the right time for you to build your luxurious homes but the temple 38:29 is lying in ruins. and it time to build many of us have built our own houses. 38:51 You planned for it from the time you started working saved, saved, saved, saved a little money because you wanted to build a house one day. Yeah, there's nothing wrong in that. That's good. But the Lord says, 39:11 what about building my house? In those days it was a physical temple. in these days building the house of God means building fellowship between people. Building fellowship 39:31 with my wife or my husband. Building fellowship with a brother and more and more brothers. Not just gathering them together. If you gather 500 people together, that is 39:52 like gathering 500 bricks on the roadside. Yeah, we need those bricks to build the house. But 10,000 bricks is not a house. When 10,000 bricks make a building like this then it is a house. 40:16 10,000 bricks on the roadside that is not a house. If you keep 10,000 bricks on the roadside in India after a few months it will become 9,000. it will become 5,000. 40:38 After one or two years there will be zero. I don't want to be in a church like that where there's no fellowship with others. Are you built? Nobody can steal a brick from this wall. But outside if there are bricks they can 40:57 walk off with it many and many days. Are you like a brick just sitting here or are you in fellowship with the others here? Look at all these bricks how close fellowship they have with each other. 41:19 And I don't hear any brick complaining somebody is on top of me somebody is pushing me on the side all the bricks here seem to be quite happy wherever they are. That's a good testimony also. 41:41 Lord I want to be in this church like all these bricks quite happy the pierce you have given me. So there are many things we can learn from the building. Don't think only of my own house. Fellowship, church, 42:01 that's very very important. God wants to build a church. God wants to grow. That was difficult work. All the hard work people had to do to build this building. So to build a holy life 42:21 or to build a home requires a lot of hard work. Then when it is all done, we can enjoy. Now we can enjoy because so many people have done some hard work. So one day when we get to heaven, 42:42 we can sit down and enjoy for eternity. but happy. But now on this earth we have to work hard. Somebody asked me once, Brother Zach, now you're 71, when are you retiring? 43:06 I'm retiring when I go to heaven. No time to retire on this earth. There's a beautiful word that Jesus once spoke. When they asked him a question, you read in John chapter 5, 43:32 Jesus had healed a lame man on the Sabbath day. verse 9, he got up, took his mat and walking and it was a Sabbath when the miracle was done. 43:58 The Jews said, no, no, no, you told Jesus, you can't do this because this is Sabbath day. This is a day you must do no work. you must rest. And then they went to Jesus. Verse 16, no, sorry, 44:18 yeah, verse 16, they began troubling Jesus because he's breaking the Sabbath. Now, listen to Jesus' reply in verse 17. My father is always working. There is no Sabbath for him. 44:40 he had one Sabbath in Genesis chapter 2 verse 1. When he made Adam and Eve, there was a Sabbath next day. Because there was no sin in the world. The next day, 45:01 Adam sinned. After that, for all these 6,000 years, God has had no Sabbath. Do you think in these 6,000 years, God is not doing anything one day of the week? That's what he's saying. My father is always working. 45:24 And I also have to keep on working. So I don't have any Sabbath till all sin is removed from the world. Then the Sabbath will come. That is the spirit Jesus had. That's the spirit we must have. 45:45 Physically we can rest. That's alright. We work six days and we must rest for one day. But inwardly you have to say I have no time to rest. If I live for a hundred years on earth I have to work for a hundred years. Because 46:05 my heavenly father has not stopped working. As long as there is sin in the world sin in the church we have to keep working. We keep on working. I have a picture at home 46:26 of all the elders of all our churches. and out of that I have got one favorite picture. And that's a picture of brother Anand Rajendra carrying some cement and helping in 46:46 the construction here. I like to show that to everybody. This is the mark of a true elder brother. I see the same thing in Nanilam when I go there. I see 47:06 people like brother Setu and all working in the kitchen. That's really wonderful. Elders who are servants who are ready to clean the toilets not just Maharajahs 47:27 who stand up there and preach. and I'm not only talking about these two I think we have got many wonderful elder brothers like that in our churches. Some of them we may not have a photograph we will see their photograph 47:43 in heaven what they have done in secret. And we will see many many wonderful brothers we had and sisters who did so many things in secret as servants. we need more 48:03 people with the spirit of a servant in the church who serve in secret. Don't worry if nobody takes your photograph the photograph will be seen in heaven when Jesus comes back. That is more 48:23 important. But we must have the spirit of a servant. That is how the house is built. So you see there are many lessons we can learn from the building of a house. Now we will pray. Let's bow our heads before God. 48:45 Let's pray that God will use this building for his glory. And that he will use our lives and our body also for his glory. Heavenly Father as we bow before you 49:05 we want to dedicate this new building also for your glory. We know that you don't live in this building. It's so useful for more than 400 people to sit here and listen to your word. 49:26 Many more that you will add in the days to come. We pray that your name will be glorified here. Always the message of the new covenant and discipleship will be preached here. And that you will always have God 49:47 fearing elders here. And this church will grow pure and strong. And like all the bricks in this building the believers in this church also will be built together like that. 50:09 We pray dear Lord that you will use this for your glory. That people in Tutukaran will see the light of God here. We don't want to be the biggest church in here to Corinth. 50:31 But we do want to be the purest church. That's all we care. We don't want the approval of men for that. We want the approval of God. So help each brother and sister here. Fill us afresh 50:51 with the Holy Spirit.
