Peter's failure and permanent humilityGod permitted Peter to deny Him three times so that his great subsequent ministry would not puff him up, leaving him permanently humbled by his past.

Regret over financial or earthly lossJust like past moral failures, we must not sit in regret over wrong earthly decisions or lost money, trusting that God allowed those things to keep us close to Him.

Having sorrow only for spiritual lossWe should make a decision never to shed tears over earthly losses, reserving our sorrow only for spiritual loss and pressing forward toward christlikeness.
