0:07 This verse can be found in Hebrews 11:6. God rewards those who diligently seek him. In the King James, it says the word diligently. That means earnestly seeks him. And he rewards them. There were some people in the book of 0:27 Zephaniah Zephaniah wrote to. If you turn with me to Zephaniah chapter 1 verse 12 In the middle part of that verse, it 0:45 says Zephaniah chapter 1 verse 12 And I will punish the men who are stagnant in spirit. That means they're not progressing. They're just lazy in their spiritual life. Who say it in their hearts 1:04 the Lord will do will not do good or evil. Meaning, if I do something for the Lord, he's not going to reward with me reward me for my labor. And if I do something bad there's no consequences that are going to be there. The Lord 1:24 will not do good or evil. And that's the opposite of what this verse says. Lord says, if you seek me diligently there will be a reward. And the ones who say that there won't be a reward are the ones who are 1:41 stagnant in spirit. They're lazy, spiritually lazy. And they say, "Well, you know what? There's no consequences for the way I live." You might remember back in the days of Egypt God said there's going to be a difference between those who live in 1:59 Goshen, my children who live in Goshen, and for the rest of Egypt it's going to be dark. But there's going to be light in Goshen, so that you'll know that there's a difference. There is a reward for those who diligently seek me. 2:15 If you look at that picture, do you know what that might be a illustration of or what story in the Bible that's relating to? You can think about it and see. There's a bunch of camels going 2:40 This is a good question for us to ask ourselves. Lord, is my life meaningful? The opposite of meaningful, you can say is the word vain. V a i n, vain. There's certain things that are vain, 3:01 that you do it and there's no meaning to it. It's pointless. And God says that he gives a number of examples of people who live vain or pointless lives. And if you turn with me to Deuteronomy 3:20 chapter chapter two, and if you have your Bibles open it up to Deuteronomy chapter two. It says in verse three, this is what he's telling the children of Israel. You have circled this mountain long enough. 3:38 You're going round and round and round, but at the end of all of it, you're found in the exact same place that you started. You did a lot of activity going round and round that mountain. It's enough. Stop going around the mountain. 3:57 Move on. Don't be spiritually stagnant. Move on. That's what God is saying. And one of the things that I think of which is probably pointless. Do you guys know there's two liquids in here? Do you know what the two liquids 4:17 are? Oil and water. Yes, they're oil and water. Oil will always be on the top. Water will always in the bottom. And no matter how much I shake this, guess what's going to happen? After after some time, the oil will go 4:34 back up. So, I'm going to mix this up here and I'm going to leave it here. But no matter if I mix this from morning to night, guess what's going to happen? At the end of all of it, I'm going to be at the same place I started with the oil 4:51 on the top and the water in the bottom. It was just meaningless, pointless. Some of you may have just finished your midterms. I don't know what your perspective of midterms is. 5:09 I'm thankful that I don't have to take any midterms. But for those of you who've taken midterms, there's something good about them. Let's say there was a math problem that you didn't know how to solve and you got it wrong on your midterm. 5:27 Wouldn't it be good to know how to solve it the correct way so that when your finals come, you get it right? Yeah, so that's one good thing of having a midterm. Once you go to the finals, it's too late to change it then. 5:43 It's too late to go and correct your mistakes when you're at the in your finals. And I think it's a very, very wonderful privilege that God gives us. If he can show us a midterm of our lives, where are we 6:02 spiritually? Because now we have an opportunity to do something about it. Once that day comes when we stand before the Lord, it's too late. No matter how much you ask the Lord, "Give me one more chance. I'll go back 6:19 and set it right." God will say, "No. You had your chance. You had your opportunity." For the churches in Revelation chapter 2 and 3, turn with me to Revelation chapter 2 and 3. Actually, Revelation chapter 2. You see that church after church, 6:41 it's almost like a midterm. God is showing them the things that are wrong. But how wonderful that they could see what was wrong while they were still alive. When they had an opportunity to do something about it, God showed it to them. 7:00 He said to to the first church, "You've left your first love." But they had something and they had an opportunity to go and set that right. To say, "Lord, yes, I haven't been loving you. My love hasn't been how it was when I 7:15 first met you. But thank you, Lord, for showing it to me now when I can do something about it. I can repent. I can turn. I can love you." He went to another church and he told them, "You have a name, a wonderful name, that you're doing well. You're alive 7:32 spiritually. But you're dead." But guess what? You have an opportunity now while you're living to go and set that right. Don't be satisfied by a name that everybody else thinks that you're alive. He goes on to say to others 7:54 in in the church in Laodicea in chapter 3. Chapter 3 verse 15. I know your deeds that you're neither cold nor hot. I wish that you were cold or hot. So, because you are lukewarm, neither 8:12 hot or cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. Because you're wealthy, you say you're wealthy and you're in need of nothing. You think you're all well. You think you can see, you think you're rich, you think you're all that. 8:28 But you know what? I'll give you an honest testimony of what your life is. You're poor, blind, wretched. But guess what? You have still an opportunity to buy something for your eyes so that you can see. Verse 18. I advise you to buy from me 8:51 gold refined by the fire so that you may become rich, white garments so that you may clothe yourself, and anoint your eyes so that you may see. And so you see all of these churches, they're getting grades. Some are getting D minuses, some are 9:10 getting B, some getting A's. I think this church, what do you think the grade would be for this church? Poor, poor, blind, wretched. I think they were an F. They got an F on their midterms. 9:28 But you know what the wonderful promise is here? Read with me verse 21. He who overcomes, I I grant to him to sit down with me on my throne, as I also overcame and sat down on my father on his throne. You might remember 9:47 James and John, they asked, "Can I sit on your left side and your right side of your throne?" Jesus is saying, "I'm This is not the left side or right. You can sit on my throne if you overcome." For you who are getting an F 10:01 right now, you can get an A+ and sit on my throne. That's the promise. If they overcame, if they took what God told them seriously, it didn't have to stay an F. It could be an A+. 10:19 And that's the good news for each one of us as well. Today, while we still have opportunity, God can If we have an honest estimate of ourselves, there's hope for us. Where was Jesus born? Jesus was born in? 10:43 Bethlehem. Do you know who said that? Was it predicted before he was born? Yes. Yes, very good. It was in Prophet Micah. So, if you turn with me to Micah, chapter 5, verse 2. 11:01 It says, "But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you one will go forth for me to be ruler of Israel." Micah prophesied about four 600 year more than 600 years before Jesus was 11:18 born. For more than 600 years, the Jews knew where the Messiah would be born. You go to a Jew and you see that in Matthew chapter 2. Turn with me to Matthew chapter 2. Matthew chapter 2 verse 1. Now, after Jesus was born in 11:38 Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, Magi or wise men from the east arrived from Jerusalem saying, "Where is he has who has been born king of the Jews?" And why did they want to know? For we saw a star in the east and we have come 11:55 to worship him. Verse 3, was this a surprise? Did they They knew. Verse 3, when Herod and the king heard heard this, he was troubled and all Jerusalem with him. Verse 4, gathering together all the chief priests and scribes 12:14 the people of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was going to be born. And now all these chief priests and scribes, what are they doing? They're going through the scriptures and they're knowing And verse 5, they said to him, "In 12:29 Bethlehem of Judea, for this is what has been written in the prophet." And then they're quoting Micah 5:2. The wise men saw the star and knew approximately when the Messiah was going to be born. 12:49 They came following that star, but did they know where he was going to be born? No. That's why they asked him, "Where is the king of the Jews? Where is he going to be born? We've seen a star." And these Jews and these chief priests, 13:07 all they did from the time of 600 years is they studied the scriptures waiting for the Messiah to be born. That's what they did. From morning to evening, they would go to the synagogues, they would give money to God, they would read their 13:21 scriptures. And that's why as soon as they asked, "Where is the Messiah going?" they immediately said, "You know what? Here is This is where they're going to be born." Did they have the right answer? Yes. Did they know the truth? Yes. 13:36 But the thing they sought for the most from morning to night was to know where the Messiah was going to be born, to love him, to worship him. And so they knew, and they knew from the wise men that he was going to be born in 13:52 Bethlehem. But did it serve them any purpose? What was the good of knowing the scriptures and going to the and from morning to evening knowing all of what they knew? Tell me, what do you think was the benefit they had? They had no bene- benefit. It was 14:13 pointless. They knew everything that they needed to knew know, but it was pointless. Do you know how far Bethlehem was from Jerusalem? It was about 6 miles. About a 2-hour walk from Jerusalem to 14:33 Bethlehem. And they were going to they the one that they were seeking, the one they studied about, was there 6 miles away, 2 hours walk. And they didn't have a single desire to walk 2 hours to go and see the one who was going to be born in 14:51 Bethlehem. They knew the scriptures, but what was the point of all of it? Those scriptures that Micah wrote down, do you know who was the only one who benefited of that? Of all the people in the world, who 15:09 benefited from Micah 5:2? Any guesses? Who benefited? The wise men. Very good. The Jews didn't benefit it. They had the scriptures. They knew where he was born, 15:27 but it didn't It was of zero use to them. And it was almost like God was saying, "I'm going to write these things for people who are not even Jews, who don't have the scriptures, and they're going to benefit out of this 15:42 word." And when I think about that, I say, "Lord, who are the ones who are going to find you today?" We too have the scriptures. We too go to the church every Sunday. But what benefit 16:04 is it to us? Could we be like those scribes and those chief priests? "Oh, yes, I know where the scripture is. I'll tell you." But what made the difference to these wise men who didn't have the scriptures who found Jesus, 16:23 and all of these who had the scriptures and didn't find him? Because we too are awaiting what? Not the first coming of Christ, but the second coming of Christ. "Oh, what's the signs of his coming? Let me show you. I'll turn to the 16:42 scriptures. There's going to be earthquakes. There's going to be wars, rumors of wars. I can tell you all of what it is. But is it going to be of any use for us if we're not if we're not if we're not ready for him, is it going 17:01 to be of any use of knowing all these scriptures? We would be just like the chief priests and scribes. We know the scriptures. We come for the meetings. The one purpose for everything is to go and meet him, and we would not be ready to meet him. 17:16 It would be pointless. And so I say, I want to learn something from what these wise men had so that I will not miss out when Christ comes again thinking that I'm ready when I'm not. The same way it's with the Holy Spirit. 17:34 Yes, we can turn to scriptures. Yes, it says in Ephesians 5:18, you must be filled with the Holy Spirit. Well, are the promises there? Do we know the promises? Yes. But we have we sought to be filled with the Holy Spirit? Are we filled with the 17:49 Holy Spirit? Or could I be like the chief priests and scribes who know all the right things, but I'm not experiencing it. I've not met Christ. I've not met the Holy Spirit. And as I think about these wise men, what did they have that the chief 18:08 priests and the scribes didn't have? They had a burning desire to go and worship the king of the Jews. They would take such great pains, packed up all their bags, take up the 18:27 treasures, and they all would set off on a journey of weeks. And every night they'd look at the star and say, "Okay, this is the way we have to go." Make some distance and in the mornings take rest. Then get up again, go, 18:43 find a place to stay, feed the animals. All of this, why? Because they wanted to go and worship the Messiah, God who was coming in the flesh. They had a thirst. They had a a passion. If you turn with me to Psalm 19:02 63, Psalm Psalm 63, what does a dry ground need? What does a dry ground need? Psalm 63:1, "O God, you are my God. I 19:22 shall seek you earnestly. My soul thirsts for you. My flesh yearns for you in a dry and weary ground where there is no water." My soul thirsts for you. If you turn with me to Psalm 42. 19:50 Psalm 42:1, "As the deer pants for water brooks, so my soul pants for you. Verse two, my soul thirsts for God, for the living God." You see this? There's a thirst. There was a a hunger. They They couldn't be satisfied. The wise men couldn't be 20:09 satisfied staying there in the east when they knew that God was going to be there. He was going to be born. They had to do anything that it would take to come there. Another one. So, God's word benefited who? The wise 20:28 men. Today also, I believe God's word is going to benefit those who are longing for God. The ones who long for God, God will take the scripture and bring it to them. And show them the way to Jesus today also. 20:47 Reveal Jesus to them. Why? Because they have a thirst for him. And if you turn with me to Luke chapter two. Luke chapter two, turn with me. Another person. We're seeing who are the ones who would find Jesus when he came the first time 21:05 to see if we will also find Jesus when he comes the second time. Will we also find the Holy Spirit when he comes? Verse two, uh chapter two, sorry. Luke chapter two, verse 25. And there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. 21:20 And this man was righteous and devout. And see what his heart was. What was his heart looking for? Looking for the consolation of Israel and the Holy Spirit was upon him. The Holy Spirit was upon this man. And his longing, what 21:38 he was looking for, his was looking for Jesus who would be the consolation of Israel. He was looking for the Messiah. And so he's He goes on verse 26. And it would had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he 21:55 had seen the Lord's Christ. Who will see Who will the Holy Spirit reveal Jesus to today? Those who have a longing to see him. The Holy Spirit will reveal Jesus 22:15 to that one who has a longing. It doesn't matter he's a whether it's wise men who didn't know the scripture or a Jewish man who knew the scriptures, it didn't matter. Whoever had a longing both God's word and the Holy Spirit will 22:28 come and show him Christ and lead him. And it says here verse 27. And it came And he came in the spirit into the temple. And then he goes on to say that he blessed him. 22:46 How did Simeon know that? Why did the Holy Spirit show Simeon what the chief priests and scribes could not see? Because he had a longing. Not for what God can give him, what God could bless him. No. I want God and God alone. 23:05 I can't be satisfied anywhere else." You might remember when if you turn with me to Matthew 15. Matthew 15. Verse 21. Matthew 15:21. 23:28 Jesus went away there and withdrew to the district of Tyre and Sidon, and a Canaanite woman from that region came out and began to cry and say, "Have mercy on me, Lord, son of David. My daughter is cruelly demon-possessed." 23:42 Verse 23. But he did not answer her word and said to his disciples and his disciples came and implored him saying, "Send her away because she she keeps shouting at us." So she they come and they said, "Don't let her come here. Push her away. 24:00 Push her away." But she could she go away? Could she go away? No. She said, "It doesn't matter what you do. I need to see him." But he answered and said, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." Verse 25. But she 24:19 came down and began to bow down before him. "Lord, help me." She was desperate. No matter how much they pushed her away, she kept on going. She kept on going because she could not go without meeting Jesus. 24:38 If you turn with me to John 20, another person like that. John chapter 20. Who are the ones who are going to see Jesus today? John chapter 20, verse 1. Now on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene came early to the tomb. Jesus 24:57 had died on the cross and been buried in the tomb and she's going there. So she ran. She saw the stone already taken away from the tomb. So verse two, she ran and came to Simon Peter and the other disciple whom Jesus loved, John. 25:14 And said to them, "They have taken the Lord out of the tomb and we do not know where they have laid him." So Peter runs and he runs there and John also is running. And guess who's faster? John's faster. He runs ahead of Peter, 25:30 gets there. But then he stops and says, "You know what? Let Peter go in first." So Peter goes in first into the tomb. And he sees the grave clothes there and one set aside and folded. John looks at it as well and it says 25:45 that he saw those grave clothes and he believed that Jesus was alive just by seeing how Jesus had folded the clothes after he rose from the dead. And they saw it and then they went back home, it says here in verse 10. So the disciples went away away 26:02 again to their homes. Verse 11, but Mary was standing outside the tomb weeping. Everybody else went home. James and John went home. But she can't go home. She says, "I 26:22 can't Where Where's home?" Where was home for Mary? She had to meet Jesus. And even though it seemed pointless, why would you stay at stay in front of a empty tomb? I see that the Lord meets with those who 26:42 have a longing to meet him. See what it says here in verse 17, but Mary standing outside the tomb weeping. So as she wept, she stopped and took looked at the tomb and saw two angels and in white sitting at the head and one 26:57 at the feet where the body of Jesus had been lying. And they said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?" She said to them, "Because they have taken away my Lord, and I don't know where he is." Longing, a longing, longing. 27:12 And then it says, verse 5 15, Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?" Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, "Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will go and get him." 27:28 And I think these were most precious words that Mary ever heard. It says, verse 16, Jesus said to her, "Mary." "Mary." Do you hear those words calling out to your name today? The one who longs for him will find him. 27:50 He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him. It says she turned and said to him in Hebrew, "Rabbouni." means teacher. Verse 17, Jesus said to her, "Stop clinging to me, for I have not ascended to the Father, but go to my 28:08 brother and say to them, I ascend to my Father and your Father, my God and your God." Verse 18, Mary Magdalene came and announcing to the disciples. What did she announce? "I have seen the Lord." And said, "Today also, who's going to see the 28:26 Lord?" It's those who won't settle when the disciples push them away. The ones who won't settle when the tomb is still empty. The ones who keep going over la- miles of desert looking for the King of the Jews. Today 28:45 he will also meet those as well. And I say, "Lord, I want to examine my heart. Where is my heart? Do I know the scriptures? And I'm satisfied. Am I satisfied with meetings? Am I satisfied that you're blessing me in some way? 29:03 Or is my soul not going to settle until it finds you?" And that's the question for each one of us. Those who seek him will surely find him. If you seek him with all your heart. Lillian Trasher, she was a missionary. 29:31 Uh do you know which country she was a missionary to? Huh, wonder how you guessed. Yes, she was a missionary to Egypt. She went there, and she has started an orphanage there. And she her her testimony of all the things that she encountered, 29:50 she didn't seek for people to support her for meeting the needs of her orphanage. While she would receive gifts if they gave her, but she trusted in the Lord. She sought the Lord for the needs. And there was one specific incident 30:06 in her life when she was there as a missionary. It was about 1941 when World War II was happening. And during that time, the British were coming into Egypt, especially because of the Suez 30:26 Canal over there. They came there. And money was very, very tight during the war. And she had about 900 orphans that she was taking care of in her orphanage. And one day, as she was sitting there, 30:43 the kids had only a half cup of lentils that night. And she told the kids, "I want us to stop for 24 hours and forget about all the school and all of that. I want us for 24 hours to seek the Lord, all of us. 31:02 Seek the Lord." And so all these kids, 900 kids, are praying. And as they're praying, Lillian Trasher, she hears one of the kids. She had a sickness, a skin disease, and she had to be her head was shaved. 31:21 And she was her name was Figa, f i g a, f i g a, Figa. She was her her voice was heard above the others. And this was her prayer. She was like, "Lord, please meet our need." And she said, "Even our 31:41 Mama, they called her Mama Lillian, even she's not able to provide our needs." And she quoted a scripture in Psalm 27. Turn with me to Psalm 27. Again, remember these are orphans, right? That she's taking care of. And this is the 31:54 verse that she quoted from Psalm 27. Psalm 27, Psalm 27, verse 10. "For my father and my mother have forsaken me, 32:12 but the Lord will take me up." My father and mother have forsaken me. Even my Mama Lillian's not able to take care of us. But you will not forsake me. And I was just thrilled when I saw that this child knew the scripture and the appropriate 32:28 verse. And as she was praying for a burden, these children were praying not because they were told to pray, but they had a such a great need in their heart because without any food they were going to starve. And during the wartime 32:45 it's not easy to come by. And so they went on praying till about 2:30 in the morning. The kids were praying. Then fell asleep. And then Lillian and all the staff members continued to pray into the early morning morning hours. 33:03 And then early in the morning they got a telegram. She got a telegram from Ambassador Alexander Kirk who was the US Ambassador to Egypt. And he says in the telegram "Come and meet me tomorrow." So she was wondering why would the 33:22 Ambassador of the US want to meet with me in the wartime. And so she said, "You know what? Maybe could it be something to do with the prayer of these widows and orphans here tonight?" So she got on a train went traveling to the 33:44 to the to the place where the Ambassador of the US was staying. Met him and and said "Why have you called for me?" And she he said, "Have you heard the news? And you you might remember the Axis and the Allies. 34:03 Germany has just captured Greece. Greece has fallen." And she's thinking to my herself, "Okay, what does that have to do with anything?" Yes, I've read the news that Greece has fallen. He said that there was 34:21 a Red Cross ship Kassandra Lou Lou Dis that was going to from to to Greece. And because Greece was captured, they sent them back to Alexandria, Egypt 34:40 back. And they said that they asked the captain to throw off all the goods from that ship because the Germans would attack it. And there was a sailor, a Scottish 34:58 sailor on board who knew about your ministry and his mom prays for your orphans every day. And he pleaded with the captain saying, "Don't throw these off. There's an orphanage that I know of and they may need it. So, don't throw it into the ocean. Just 35:18 unload it and we'll unload it before day breaks so that we still can go and escape into the darkness so that our ship will be safe." And so he pleaded the captain didn't want to do it, but the captain he this man was insistent and he said, 35:34 "No, we have to un- unload it." And so he unloaded all these containers of food and clothing on the dock. And Mama Lillian was she was so she was in tears because she's like So, it's 2 hours later after lunch they 35:54 went to the the dock and saw all of these goods staying there. 2,600 dresses for girls 1,900 sweaters for boys our boys boys and girls 1,900 36:12 pants for boys 700 kegs of milk powder for milk. And so on and so forth 2,600 or 1,200 bags of rice. All of this sitting there. And he says, "You know what? 36:35 I'll pay for the goods to be transported for free to your orphanage as well." And she said, "Thank you." She was broken and then as she went there and you think of all the children who prayed that previous night to hear what God did for them. 36:54 And I was I was touched when I saw that. God would move heaven and earth. War or no war, didn't matter. To meet the need of his children, especially those young ones who were praying with desperation, earnestness, seeking. 37:12 He does reward those who diligently seek for him. And I was thinking about that, all these children who didn't have food and clothing and with a burden prayed and God heard. And I was thinking to myself, yes, for 37:28 us might not be that way for us. We may have our food clothing. But I say, "Lord, there's abundance that you have." Turn with me to Ephesians chapter 1. Ephesians chapter 1 37:49 verse 3. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ. God has blessed us. There is and I picture like this, there's a ship 38:08 container, a spiritual ship container with all his blessings. Not only to meet our current need, but lavish upon us. There's a beautiful verse in Isaiah verse 55:2. Turn with me there. Isaiah 55:2 Isaiah 55:2 38:38 Listen carefully to me in the second part of it. Listen carefully to me and eat what is good and delight yourself in abundance. God wants us to be spiritually rich. abundance And I can think and I was picturing 38:56 Lord, if you heard that child who prayed with the earnestness for physical bread and physical clothing how much more I who want your spiritual clothing and your spiritual bread will you not give it? Not only for me, 39:15 but for all. There's a shipload of spiritual wealth that God has there. And as it says in 2 Chronicles chapter 16:9, the eyes of the Lord go to and fro seeking how he could strongly support 39:35 those whose heart are fully his. Those who completely their heart is fully his. They have no desire for anything else other than the Lord himself. They seek him diligently and he does reward them. And I said, Lord, yes, I may not want physical bread with 39:51 that earnestness, but I do want the spiritual food. I want to see all of those things that you have revelation like Simeon got of you. I want it, Lord. It says in 40:07 1 Corinthians chapter 2. 1 Corinthians chapter 2 1 Corinthians chapter 2 verse 9 Things which the eye has not seen 40:29 and ear has not heard and which has not entered the heart of man all that God has prepared for those who love him. God has ample supply for those who love him. He's preparing. That same word is translated or that 40:48 same verse is quoted from Isaiah 64. Turn with me to Isaiah 64. The verse that Paul is quoting is in Isaiah 64 verse 4. For from days of old 41:09 have not heard or perceived by the ear nor has the eye seen a God besides you who acts on behalf of the one who waits for him. When I love God I'll wait for him. 41:27 I'll wait for him. And so it says here in Proverbs 8:34, how do we wait? Do you have a longing for him? This is how it says in Proverbs 8 They waited for the spiritual food. Blessed is the man Proverbs 8:34, blessed is the man who 41:46 listens to me watching daily at my gates waiting at my doorpost. For he who finds me finds life and obtains favor from the Lord. And it says morning by morning Isaiah 50:4, morning by morning he awakens me 42:05 so that I can listen to him. Do you have a desire that you would spend time to wait till he speaks for you. I say, "Lord, I want to be like that, waiting daily until you speak to me."
