0:00 I wanted to share just some thoughts on NCCF 10 years later. I'll make it a little bit easier. I seeing things on a screen help me so I'll kind of write this I kind of share this through a set of slides that I can share 0:15 with you my thoughts on NCCF 10 years later. I wanted to talk about the different layers that I felt has helped me as one of the elders as well as my understanding of NCCF as a church to have the health relative that it does. 0:34 We don't compare ourselves to other churches but we do want to be healthy. We believe spiritual health is a thing that is given to all of our churches. And I think to the extent that we have been able to experience health, I look 0:45 at these principles that have helped us. First of all, I don't think there's any surprise here that we are built on the foundation of Jesus Christ and God's word. Nobody else there's salvation in no one else. Absolutely clear to all of us. Ephesians 1:02 2:20. And it's not just Jesus Christ but Jesus Christ has revealed through God's word the Bible the 66 books. The Old Testament that prophesied about him in the New Testament that describes him as they as well as the apostles who spoke and wrote 1:18 God's word as well. So we don't look to modern culture or fads to decide truth. God's word is truth. Jesus Christ is truth and that is our bedrock. So that was the first layer of the foundation the most important layer of the 1:33 foundation. Everything builds on top of that and if that foundation layer is infinite. The next one is where we start to differentiate from many other churches and where we saw the difference was in our understanding that God has given 1:46 teachers. It says in Ephesians 4:11 and through 13 it says God has given to the church teachers. For many years many many years as a Christian I sincerely lived as I as if I only needed two teachers. The Holy Spirit and the word 2:01 of God. And I think most Christians probably only think of them as being the only two teachers the Holy Spirit and the word of God but this passage clearly told me it was a revelation from God and His mercy when He showed me that God has 2:12 given to the third church teachers and these are humans who are specially gifted by the Holy Spirit to teach and instruct the rest of us. It's not a sign of them being better than us. It's a gift that God gives freely to some to 2:24 help us to build up the body of Christ. You know I I don't say this because of my personal connection my with my dad. It has nothing nothing to do with that. And I don't need to prove this to any human being. God is my witness that the 2:39 key part of NCCF being Zach Poonen as our teacher and learning the new covenant life is not because Zach Poonen is my father. But and there are many other teachers that are God has gifted in the whole world and they don't all have access to 2:52 it. They don't need to have all have access to Zach Poonen. But we at NCCF were blessed to have a teacher whom we trusted and whom we had access to to ask questions to clarify doubts to give us wisdom who was close to us who was 3:04 accessible to us. And not everyone has this access to biblical teachings by a person who doesn't love money who's not interested in position or fame or glory many other things. So we're very fortunate to have that. He was the one who explained to us 3:20 and gave us the playbook on how to understand God's word as it related to building a new covenant church. The next layer on top of that is NCCF elders gathered in the name of Jesus and that's what I want to say. It's not the name of 3:35 Bobby Jeremy or something but it's the name of Jesus that we want to keep as the name associated with NCCF. And one of the practical ways we've tried to do this is we don't try to move forward based on any of our agendas. For all key 3:48 spiritual decisions we've tried to move at the speed of total unity. So we've not even at for key spiritual decisions have tried not to move forward at the speed of majority but at the speed of total unity knowing that God has given all three of us 4:03 invaluable equal partners. And so I can say honestly before God I can't think of even one decision that has been forced through by any one of us no matter who proposed it. We didn't move forward till all three of us were 4:16 comfortable with it. And again look with that doesn't mean all of our decisions are perfect definitely not. We've had to repent and change decisions but we moved at the pace of our maturity and sincerity as we seek to grow in maturity 4:30 and wisdom and discernment and we definitely are seeking to be wiser even in the days to come. But it's given me a lot of peace that Lord I don't know need to know whether I'm making the perfect decision. I need to make know whether 4:40 I'm making the wise decision knowing that I will grow in wisdom. And so that's been really tremendous gift to us seeking the name of Jesus. The next layer men seeking to be one and women seeking to be one and I put some 4:54 passages in there. Ephesians 5 and 6 massive passages Philippians 2 which we memorized lots of it. Colossians 3 big passages where we seek to be united in humility and gentleness in dying to self and knowing the love of God. 5:12 But I one specific practical area where I've really been appreciated both the men in seeking to be one with each other and the women seeking to be one with each other is in the use of our tongue. I've seen a lot of churches being 5:24 destroyed or dismantled or corrupted by speech and the tongues being loose and gossip and being critical about others even within the church or other groups. And thankfully I praise God that men with one another women with one another 5:39 families it has been almost absent and that's really made our job as an elder so much easier. And I put them both together in one slide at the same jump but men do come before women and I want that to also be clear not because it's any preference or 5:57 because I'm a man because but because that's in God's word. Men are called to be the leaders in the home and in the church. It's a statement of the role and the responsibility in the home and the church those two areas given by God. 6:10 It's not a statement at all about worth or equality and we've talked about this over and over again but it's worth repeating. Men and women are equally worthy in Christ and men and women are equal in God's eyes as sons and 6:23 daughters of God the Father. But we have different responsibilities in leadership specific to the home and the church. And so we do it God's way and we've tried to do that in every area as you've noticed that even in something small as head 6:38 covering. On top of that I put it in a different color of the words but children walking in the truth is not a is another part that comes on top of the foundation that I have felt of this. We have made a very distinct decision 6:55 and we made that early on that NCCF was not the place to raise godly children. The place to raise godly children was the home. A godly home will raise godly children not a godly church. And so the primary responsibility was always going 7:10 to be in my home for my children and in other people's homes for their children. But on the other hand a godly church is made up of godly families. So in a way we can expect to see godly children in a godly church but it is as 7:25 the fruit of each family's labors. And there's a special as 3 John 1:4 3 John 1:4 says I have no greater joy. It's almost as a cannot be beat joy when we see our children walking in the truth as all of us parents can testify and as the next 7:42 generation growing up. And we want that to be a clear indication of the proof of our labors in our individual families and that the whole church can enjoy. Children not growing up to be well behaved or knowing all the truths but 7:54 walking in the truth. And how how long do we do that? Until we all attain the unity of the faith and the knowledge of the Son of God to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ. And if we just think about the fullness of 8:09 Christ we'll be flattened. We'll be humbled to know how far we still have to go. And so we all also means regardless of color of skin culture socioeconomic level education levels and so on so forth. We want to keep moving forward to 8:25 a welcome more. And we all means more than just those who are in the church right now. As we've also talked about often we want to be a church of one more. Not a mega church not a famous church not a big church but a one more church. 8:42 And maybe we should use not a one more church but the better word maybe is an Una mas church. I was thinking about that as I was writing my notes for that because it's in a different language and so that tells me different language in 8:54 my mother tongue. And Una mas church a one more that's Spanish for one more. And Una mas church a one more dear brothers and sisters we want to be an Una mas church. One more maybe it's the neighbor next door maybe it's a relative 9:06 of ours who needs to know the love of God and the love of God that can bring them into the family of God and that we may be bold even if they were ridiculed even if it doesn't feel good to have a desire to be an Una mas church. 9:20 I want to close with this one thought. Today marks the greatest day in human history. I'm not trying to be inflammatory. I really believe that today marks the greatest day in human history. It's not the day that Jesus was born. It's not the day 9:34 that Jesus died. It's not even the day that Jesus was raised from the dead but today marks the day thousands of years ago 2000 years ago almost where or more than 2000 years ago when Jesus I can't remember the day but was when Jesus 9:48 baptized humans with the Holy Spirit. We know this people think of this as the day of Pentecost but everything changed on the day when God decided to live in filthy humans by cleaning us up first. God lived in humans first for the 10:05 first time in Jesus Christ, but he had never sinned. But what about the rest of us? And everything changed when the Holy Spirit came into the human heart. It is literally the greatest day to me. I've meditated on this recently a 10:18 lot on how this is the greatest day in a person's life. How can we even use words to describe the magnitude of this event when God chooses to live in humans? It's one thing if a man decided to take on the form of a fruit fly 10:32 and live in a way where he hated garbage and lived in a loving relationship with other humans with other fruit flies. But I in a way I feel the marvel is even greater when because of that one man's sacrifice and infinite love, now that 10:46 nature of man can live in all of us, the rest of us fruit flies, and can teach any fruit fly how to live where any fruit fly can hate garbage and can live in love with other fruit flies. That's what God did and I would have not felt 11:01 comfortable saying that this is the greatest day if Jesus himself didn't say that it was better. It's a greater day when I go away because the greater day will come when the helper can come and live in us so that we too, undeserving wretches that 11:17 we are, can be holy. That the and we can hate the totally corruptible garbage of the riches of this world and the honor of this world and the glory of this world and the power of this world. And that we too, undeserving wretches, 11:33 can be witnesses of his love and power because of what Jesus Christ did for us to others as well around us. What a wonderful treat it is, dear brothers and sisters, to be part of this church. I'm tremendously blessed. Thank you for 11:48 every one of you joining us church and I rejoice today and I rejoice for the rest of this time today. Thank you. Thank you, Sandeep. Yeah. Uh along the same lines, I Ephesians 4:13 was the same 12:07 verse on my heart that we would all attain together. But first before I get into that, just please turn to Matthew 16. This has been something that I remember a lot I think is appropriate for today. Starting in verse 8, Matthew 16:8 says 12:27 Jesus, aware of this, said, "You men of little faith." He was rebuking his disciples. "Why do you discuss among yourselves that you have no bread? Do you not yet understand or remember the five loaves of the 5,000 and how many baskets full you picked up 12:42 or the seven loaves of the 4,000 and how many large baskets full you picked up?" And to see that uh as we're celebrating 10 years this week, it's important to remember back to God's faithfulness very often. And one of the most important things for 12:59 our faith going forward is to look backward and not forget uh the Lord's faithfulness. And so if the disciples would have remembered here about Jesus and all his all that he had done, they wouldn't have doubted in the moment. They wouldn't have 13:13 stumbled. Uh and so yeah, remembering and has helped remembering that truth that has helped me a lot to remember back and appreciate what the Lord has done, not take it for granted. And also give him all the credit. And so 13:28 yeah, before in CCF, before me, before I met folks here, for me personally, God was gripping my heart with the the truths of the new covenant first a few years. Uh but I was always listening to the messages with my own individual walk 13:45 with God in mind. I didn't really have ears to hear what the new covenant body was, the local church body. And I listened to brother Zach and the messages for my individual walk with the Lord and it was radically changing my life and lifting me up. It 13:58 was what I was looking for for years. But I really started growing even much more when the Lord brought me into a church who was grounded on that teaching, on that truth together. And to see I mean, we've been blessed as a whole 14:13 church to be grounded on this new covenant teaching that God's given through the brother Zach. And I think that's what's made the world of difference for the church not just to be together and remain together as a church, but to be 14:26 an overcoming church who's where we're growing together. And so I've seen a special calling in what the Lord's given us as a church to come into the fullness of the new covenant, not to just stop at individual walks with God, but like it says 14:41 what Sandeep quoted, Ephesians 4:13, "Until we all attain to the unity of the faith and to the knowledge of the Son of God to be a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ." So it was saying together 14:56 it says it says we until we all attain to the unity and knowing Jesus and spiritual maturity and to the measure measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ. So it's the Lord's purpose that we're built up all 15:08 together. And I hardly ever thought of that before in CCF, but the Lord's been so good to give this truth in this church as a gift and just two specific things that the Lord provided in that regard that were on my heart. One is the prophetic word and 15:25 then two is the protection that we've needed for our church. And so with regard to prophecy, I think one of the main things I remember from the early earlier time when I when I came was Sandeep would drill home keep 1 Corinthians 14, this is what our 15:41 meeting is based on. Encourage E be eager to encourage and build each other up to prophesy. And before that, if someone were to ask me, "How do you How does the Lord want us to focus on building up the church and your brothers and sisters in 15:53 Christ?" I don't wouldn't know what to say. Uh maybe some vague ideas. "Well, let's go spend time together or serve in some way like somebody needs help moving or some tech help." And it's like I didn't know how to answer that. But 1 16:05 Corinthians 14, that helped to change the way I saw things what church was and um where to to prophesy to each other. Verse 3 to encourage, exhort each other, edify each other, comfort each other. And in verse 31, it says you can do you can all do it one by 16:22 one so everybody learns and exhorted. And so that's what we were starting with and it was so clear how the church was built up in the Lord. Um and I don't think I mean prophecy may sound like a complicated word, but it's not really. 16:34 It's mostly here's a struggle that I had and here's how the Lord helped me with it. And here's how the Lord gave me faith in it. Um here's the faith I had for the next struggle. And and that was the thing the Lord gave us as a 16:46 foundation. We we have good teaching and then the prophetic word. And um it was hard for a lot of us to share. We're not used to it. We were used to going to churches where we see one person speak the whole time and we take 16:57 in all we can. We consume. Uh and but this one for a lot of us it wasn't wasn't natural to speak. Wasn't for me to to speak in front of people. Still I'm not a natural public speaker. But um but to see that the Lord can use 17:11 our weaknesses for his strength, that regular brothers and sisters can come together and encourage each other like this, that um that's how he works and that's how he builds the church is through regular brothers and sisters, not um 17:24 uh Bible scholars or people who've gone to Bible school, but through the functioning new covenant body is through regular brothers and sisters who love Jesus, who are walking with him in private. And very simple. Praise the 17:37 Lord that and I mean, it helped me starting with just remembering the word that I can start with one simple word of prophecy. If I can't if I Yes, I from anything else, this verse blessed me. And I can just share a verse. 17:52 And that gave me faith to at least start. Put one step in the pool, one foot in the pool. And so can you can you at least do that? Yeah, sure I can do that. Good. So now go on from there as if the Lord gives you anything else, 18:02 then add to it. And and he always did. So I see the Lord has grounded us in large part because there were godly people have gone off on before us and proved the truth uh in this way like brother Zach in building up in the lot of CCF Bangalore 18:19 and a lot of with brothers there. And the proof was truth the truth was proven in their lives and in the churches that were built. And so we were given a gift. And and so praise the Lord for his faithfulness in giving us that. And so 18:32 um pray that we will be able to be faithful with that. And then the second thing just briefly is the the lastly is the just God's protection. We've seen it in a lot of ways in our church at different times. His immense protection. 18:45 There the Bible warns a lot about false prophets and even wolves coming in. And and and so we've we've had to um really lean on the Lord. We've seen how in amazing ways he's protected us. Uh and I mean, there was a time in the early days when we 19:01 prayed about this doctrine in the 1 Corinthians 11 that is called the head covering. And uh um women covering up their heads and men not covering up their heads. And um some folks got offended and left. And but praise God as Sandeep said, we're not 19:16 lusting after tons of members. What we don't want to amass one that one. As long as the one is a faithful godly member, it it doesn't need to be a thousand moths. Uh we even one more of the right one is much better than a thousand of the wrong 19:29 ones. And so yeah, to see that the Lord wants to build through hungry, humble people. That was one of the two requirements that we wanted to meet for ourselves. We want to be hungry and humble and that's who we want to draw in 19:39 where we won't get offended where we can be humble enough to take anything that the Lord gives us uh and to submit. And we don't despise anyone. And we we desire to have any particular number except for those who God gives us 19:53 and so um yeah, we he protects us. And so just praise the Lord for his protection. And many I mean this is just one way, but probably one of the main ways, but uh there's been other ways too, some little ways. One time we almost bought a 20:06 church building. We were pretty close to buying it. We could have had it. They offered it to us. We we could have um taken it, but there was a little bit of hesitation from the Holy Spirit. And about a year later we found out that 20:19 the the deal was tangled in some legal issues where the the pastor there was who was recently assigned as a pastor was trying to sell it and take all the money and go somewhere else and the community and the church were outraged 20:30 and um the sale was frozen in the courts and praise God that he protected us because of a little Holy Spirit hesitation. And so never despise the hesitations of the Holy Spirit. So he's really protected us as long as we're 20:43 willing to be humble and obey um and and and weak be weak in ourselves not thinking we know what's best, but um uh it's it's really an amazing thing how what the Lord has done and I I look forward to the the coming days. I 21:00 just I it really enjoy it's a joy to think back and praise the Lord for his faithfulness for the the 10 years how he's protected us and built us up through the word and through the the the teaching and through the the members. We 21:11 really thank the Lord and just always want to remember back because that'll give us the faith for and the victory for the the future. So praise God. Uh Jeremy, you can uh go ahead share next. Thank you, brothers, for your sharing. I 21:30 just want to thank God and praise the Lord for um for establishing the church. Um it's a tremendous privilege and the greatest blessing in my life to get to be uh part of NCCF and uh my family's life as well. So we're tremendously grateful. 21:46 I uh thought I would share a couple things about some high points and low points uh of the last 10 years. Um I agree with what uh Bobby said about hearing in the early days the importance of prophecy and the prophetic gift being a mark of the new 22:05 covenant church. And I had never had an expectation of speaking in a church or even really the Lord speaking to me. If you'd asked me you know, 15 years ago, "What's the Lord teaching you?" I would think about oh, our church is doing a 22:19 series on finances right now or, you know, something like that. And what I thought the Lord was teaching me was always in the context of the sermon series we were in. And I remember very distinctly once Sandeep just said, you know, "If you've 22:31 been walking with the Lord for the past 7 days is it possible that he hasn't encouraged you or strengthened you or convicted you in some way? That's that's all you have to bring. That's to share how the Lord has encouraged or strengthened or 22:43 convicted you. That's prophecy." And for me it was a great challenge to seek the Lord like that in my life and then also to seek for boldness to share. Um and so that was a tremendous blessing. The other one of the other high points in my 22:57 experience was uh I remember even before uh the Lord appointed elders, we had a meeting with brother Zach. And I can't remember exactly what it was in the meeting, but I came away from that meeting realizing that the Lord was asking me to make a 23:13 commitment to a church, not the church generally, but a church specifically. And I in that moment I realized I had always thought that I prioritized the church. Um but that probably meant that I would move every few years 23:29 uh taking a job where I made more money. And then whenever I moved to Cleveland, I would look for a really good church there. And then if I got another job, you know, then I'd move to Miami and look for a really good church there. And what it meant to me to 23:41 prioritize the church was looking for a good church wherever I was earning the most. Uh and so to see the church as a pearl of great price and to see a church being uh a specific body that the Lord had called me to to build and to um to 24:00 be a part of and to be a functioning member of uh and for that to be an organizing principle of my life, not as a law, but as a as a principle, as a priority was something that I really thank God for. Um one of the things that we've always said 24:16 from the beginning is we didn't have much of a ambition as it regards growing or staying small. You know, there's like a home church movement, you know, 10 years ago and people would ask me, "Do you guys are you guys a home church?" I 24:28 said, "I don't think so. I don't think we're we're meeting in a home, but I don't think we're we're not really about that, but we aren't about you we we didn't really have ambitions outwardly at all, but we we had inward ambitions. 24:39 We wanted to be pure as Jesus is pure. We wanted to be full of the love of God, humble like Jesus is humble. Um we wanted to grow in Christ-likeness and wisdom. Uh but that being said, I I was surprised to as I reflected so many of my down 24:55 moments uh as I look back were actually where folks left. And you know, we we thought we were in you know, indifferent to size, but when people left, those were down moments. I used to see that as a bad thing. I don't anymore. I see it as God's protection 25:11 and I see it as evidence of his building the church, but as I look back there are a few reasons I I kind of categorized almost why people left NCCF. And I feel they were important things to mention only because it helped us become clear on what we 25:27 valued. Because, you know, we're we're all together and then a question comes up and we have a choice. Do we do we do we want to preserve this relationship and maybe compromise on the truth in some way or what we feel like 25:40 God is leading us to do? Or if we have a strong conviction about a truth, we say maybe it means we have to separate. And I feel that people leaving was actually a a blessed way that the Lord helped us grow in our unique convictions at NCCF. So I wanted 25:54 to mention a few things. And the first one is uh the head covering. And when we started meeting as a church, we didn't practice head covering, but early on in our church's life someone asked the question, "It seems like the New 26:06 Testament teaches this." And um we prayed about it and we considered it and we felt like it was it was what God was calling us to do, but some people weren't happy about it and they left. And we were reminded of Matthew 5:19. If 26:20 you want to turn there. It's a very small thing. It's not a it's not a major thing. But he says "Whoever annuls one of the least of the commandments and teaches others to do the same shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven. 26:34 But whoever keeps and teaches shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." And we saw there that it was in obedience to the small things that demonstrated our reverence for God's word. It's not just in the major things, 26:47 but also in the minor things. And furthermore, the the whole practice of head covering wouldn't even matter if we didn't value and expect and encourage folks to really take 1 Corinthians 14 seriously to eagerly desire to prophesy. 27:02 And I see that that was the Lord's provision and protection to really emphasize prophecy and then for head covering especially to be mentioned in regards to prophecy. I see that if we didn't really value both brothers and sisters prophesying in 27:16 the church meeting, we might not have felt the need to take that seriously. But because we had been encouraged to prophesy and because we had been encouraged to take the small command seriously we had the conviction to uh to 27:29 uh accept that and to preach it despite the fact that it was upsetting to some people and they ended up leaving. Um the second reason that as I look back I I distinctly remember a conversation with with an individual where they said, 27:44 "You guys talk about sin too much. I want to talk more about, you know, other things." And for us I felt that was another defining moment where we where we realized our fellowship has to be with God in whom there is no darkness at all. And if 27:59 we want to have fellowship with him, we have to talk about we have to constantly be coming out of any areas of darkness. We have to be preaching against sin um so that we, you know, it says Jesus in Hebrews 1:9 that he hated iniquity 28:13 and he loved righteousness. And we can't just preach about loving righteousness. We have to preach about hating sin as well. Um the the next reason that I wanted to mention that some folks left was they weren't aligned on our emphasizing 28:28 brother Zach's teaching. Um there were there were sincere people who wanted us to do Bible studies of all sorts of other teachers. And as we sought the Lord about it, that was one area where God really gave the three of us unity that 28:44 we believed that brother Zach was given to our church as as a teacher. And that meant that we would accept his teaching and study his teaching and and it welcome and invite his teaching and his correction and all of those things. 28:58 And that was something that some people weren't that interested in. Or they wanted to be open to others. They maybe not didn't have anything against brother Zach, but they said, "Why are you all so um so focused on his teaching?" 29:10 And as we studied the Bible, one of the things that became clear is how consistently, if you look at the Apostle Paul's letters, so many times he appeals to his own life among people, his own testimony living among people as the 29:22 basis of his authority. And we said, "This is the teacher whom we know, who the Lord has appointed and we can we can he can say to us credibly, 'Follow me as I follow Jesus. You know what kind of person I have been among 29:35 you.'" Um as the Apostle Paul said, and we treasured that that gift and we felt it was good for the Lord to take people who weren't as interested in uh seeing that brother Zach was a teacher that the Lord had appointed us. And then 29:49 the last reason I wanted to mention that um folks left is they weren't willing to accept correction. I remember there being times where very small minor things uh came up and they caused offense. And at the time it was it was it was I mean 30:06 it's always sad of course when anyone leaves. But I see now how we've we've talked about being zealous about repentance as it says in Revelation 3. And we've talked about uh you know it says in Psalm 141 verse 5, let you let 30:20 the righteous smite me. It'll be as oil upon my head. We've seen so much how the Lord disciplines those he loves. And yet there were people you know with us um at some point who didn't really value correction. And we had to decide do we 30:34 value correction? Do we long for correction so much that we say it's important that correction be a part of the ministry and function of our church. Um I say all these things I just mentioned these four reasons why people 30:47 left. It's the verse that came to my mind as I was thinking about them is 1 Corinthians 10 verse 12. It says there let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. And for us to not judge anyone who's made a different decision or departed 31:00 but to say there go I but for the grace of God. The Lord has to preserve us in reverence for his word and the small commands, in willingness to be corrected, in um you know in in willingness to submit to the teacher God 31:14 has appointed and on and on. We have to seek to be preserved firm until the end. And then the last verse I'll mention is Luke 17 verse 10 which was our memory verse from a couple weeks ago. You after you have done all that I have commanded 31:28 say we're but unworthy servants. And I feel that way. I mean to to think about how people have left and things like that. We have to know there go I but for the grace of God and we have to say Lord I'm unworthy to have even heard these 31:40 things. You let me hear these things? If if you give me the grace to obey I can never be proud because I'm an unworthy slave. And I thank you for preserving me. I feel the Lord has done an amazing work at preserving us. I pray 31:53 that he'd continue to do it. He'd take us from one degree of glory to the next for his name's sake. I've seen how he's done it. I thank I thank him for it.
