0:00 Speak to us. Speak to our hearts. Reveal to us Jesus. Reveal to us your truth for your glory in Jesus name. Amen. All right. I I was I could not remember why I 0:18 picked this picture. This is some hills and some wind generators. I have no idea how it relates to the message. Some often times I try to connect the picture to what I'm going to say. And so I'm like, okay, I'll just start with this 0:29 scene, but but I'm completely lost as you are with this picture. Now, this picture, I know what I'm going to talk about. So about 24 years ago, I met Mike Huby. We were instructors. We were teachers in the United States Air Force 0:45 and we were standing uh you know I just remember being in the hanger with him and our job was to teach um young men and women how to be mechanics, how to work on these planes that the US Air Force used in war. And so that was our 1:02 job is to to teach others to do that. But let me go back because me and Mike had to to get to this point where we could teach others. The military has to take us through something. We don't just we didn't we didn't just s, you know, 1:15 sign up. They ship us up to uh North Texas and say, "Okay, guys, go at it. You seem to be good teachers." What they had to do is they had to take us back to square one. When you come into the military, they try to strip you of 1:27 everything, all your identity. You know, they they don't assume anything. They don't they don't even assume you know how to dress. They don't assume you know how to make your bed. They don't assume you know how to fold a t-shirt. They 1:40 don't assume anything. They start at square one with the basics, basic basic things. And even though you might be an expert in these things, you you have to wait so that everybody learns all of this at the same time. And then once we 1:55 were done with what they call basic training, they shipped us up to uh the same place that Mike and I were. And then they say, "Okay, we need to teach you how to be mechanics." And they literally would sit us in a classroom 2:07 for weeks and teach us what a screwdriver was and that there are different types of screwdrivers. Did you guys know there are different types of screwdrivers? There's not just one screwdriver. There's all kinds of screwdrivers. So, they're teaching us 2:19 basic basic things. And then as we learned that, they started teaching us more theory about pneumatics and hydraulics and the way that machines work and the and all this stuff. They had to teach us this. And then they would actually make us do it, right? 2:34 They would they would say, "Okay, here's I just showed you how to take a screw out of a panel. Now you take a screw out of a panel. Okay, now you put that screw back in. Okay, you take that pump out. Here's how you do it. Now you do it." 2:46 And so we had to do it. And so after years, literally years of hearing how to do it and then actually doing it oursel, Mike and I were selected to go teach. And when I was a teacher like you know I like the reason I I got this assignment 3:05 was was because I I had some education like I had a a degree. So because I had a degree I got selected for this because the Air Force won't let you teach unless you have at least an associates degree. That's the minimum you have to have to 3:17 be able to teach. And so you know Mike and I when we were there you know we had to go get our associates degree so we could teach. And I remember something you know in becoming a teacher in becoming an instructor. We called it 3:29 instructors in the military, but it's the idea just think like you're like a teacher. To become a teacher, I learned something that would fundamentally shape me about a subject. And so here here's what it is now as I as I uh share it. If you're going 3:47 to if you're going to, you know, grow in a subject, if you want to get better in your knowledge at a subject, if you just hear it, you'll be a 10enter. Just by listening regarding a subject, just what you hear, you'll get 10%. If 4:05 you do it, if you actually practice it, you'll you'll be like you'll know 50% half the content by just actually doing it. You learn. But if you really want to get to the 90% level, you have to teach it. And so when I became an instructor, 4:21 I really got to know the ins and outs of how to change out a hydraulic pump, how to pull an engine out of an aircraft, and how to put that engine back in and the theory and the components and all that by teaching it. That's how I really 4:35 got to know it. Does that make sense? I think you guys know this. Like even as a when I became a math teacher, I taught sixth and seventh grade math. And so that meant I got to be really good at fractions, decimals, percent. Right? I 4:49 used to be able to walk up by a student's paper and just like glance at the paper and know exactly what they did wrong. Now Zimry brings me her math homework and I'm like, "Hang on, I'm working right now because I like that's 4:59 so hard. I need to go study myself if I'm going to help you with math." But when you're a teacher, you know the content and you're just able to go right there. Hey, go look at number 14. You got that wrong. Go see what you did 5:10 wrong. I saw it just by looking when I was a teacher. Now I'm out of kind of out of that practice of teaching. But that's how you become an expert. And I was got to thinking about it like this. What about living a Christian life? Or 5:24 like one of uh the last girl that that shared said, "What about living as Jesus lived?" Or what about being a disciple? And I'm going to suggest that the same numbers kind of create a framework that we can kind of think through this as we 5:38 grow in our walk with the Lord, right? That our Christian life or living our Christian life follows this same structure. Now, don't take it literally. I mean, like don't get too wrapped up in the 10% 50% 90%. I It's not meant to be 5:54 literal. It's meant to be illustrative that I've learned that, you know, in reading my Bible and in stud studying the scriptures that these same principles apply. And I want to walk through some of these verses and show 6:05 you what I mean when I talk when I think about 10% hearing, 50% doing, 90% teaching. And so if you if you want, I try to put a lot of these verses up here, but you know, I I definitely put the references. So go look at the 6:18 references and check me and see if you see the same thing that I see. All right. All right. So, let's start with the the 10%. Why do you say that we have to start with hearing? Well, I would point you to Romans 10:17. You guys know Romans 10:17. Yeah, some 6:34 of you do. Some of you are nodding. So, faith, the very faith, the very trust and belief in Jesus comes from hearing, right? Hearing and hearing by the word of Christ. Why do I believe in Jesus? Well, the Bible, the Bible tells me 6:54 about Jesus, right? When I hear messages, I heard messages I think since I was a kid. When I was listening, it increased my faith. Oh, Jesus is a savior of sinners and I'm a sinner. I heard that somebody told me the gospel and I heard it, right? And it 7:12 strengthened my faith. So, it starts with hearing and hearing by the word of God. So, it's very good that we we read our Bible and I think we all know that, right? that we hear. We listen to the Lord when he speaks to us through his 7:23 word. We call it the word of God. We're listening to the word of God whenever we read our Bible. And so 10% it starts with there. And here's another verse that talks about listening or hearing. It says we need to be careful how we 7:37 listen. Okay, what does that mean? What do you mean it? So it's not just hearing what's being said. I mean, I spent a lot of time, especially when I was younger, I'd go to church meetings and there would be long messages and I listened or 7:48 I heard, but it it it didn't bear any fruit. So, this verse tells me, hey, pay attention to how you listen, right? You're going to grow even in your listening. And then I thought of this verse. Actually, maybe this is the math guy in 8:06 me, but I I like charts and graphs and sometimes it helps me. So if hearing comes up to the the the 10%. Right? Like 10% of it's just going to be what I listen to and I got to pay close attention to how I hear and how I listen 8:20 and you know I obey that verse as well. I realized uh I believe the Lord has shown me that my academic study of the Bible even memorization of scripture even what I can use with my natural mind will at best get me 1%. 8:38 Right? Remember 10% is what I can hear. So my own natural ability to learn, like even if I'm the smartest guy in the room, my natural ability to learn the Bible will only give me 1%. And what's crazy about that is the arrogance that 8:58 comes when suddenly we have knowledge. And I'll point you to this verse. So we're listening, we're hearing, right? We're growing. We can even correct people sometimes. Oh, that's not what the verse says. If you look in this 9:11 reference, D, I can show you that you're wrong here. Blah blah blah blah blah. And we become very proud, right? Because we we use our mind and we get 1% of knowledge. And I'm going to come into the gap in a little bit, but I want you 9:24 to think about this. And I think if we're honest, everybody has struggled with this. Our Bible knowledge makes us look down on others that don't have the Bible knowledge we have. And I'll give you one more evidence. There was a man 9:36 in this church that was a Bible scholar. I mean, this guy had his under his undergraduate, his uh degree program. He was getting a PhD in the Bible. I mean, this guy knew Aramaic and Greek 9:52 and Hebrew. This guy knew his Bible. I mean, what a great resource. I would ask him questions. Oh, you know the Bible? Tell me about this. But I asked him something. I asked him a question. I said, 'You know, you're in this 10:06 program where you guys all learn the Bible academically. How many Christians, how many Christians are in this program? I'll come to the answer in a little bit. I want to continue this work. I like that the New Living Translation of it. 10:20 You know, that hearing, all that hearing, just listening, listening, listen, listening, you're gaining all this knowledge and you're getting puffed up. Suddenly, you feel like you're important. You're a somebody. you know, you're no longer a nobody or a 10:33 somebody now because you've got all this knowledge and it puffs us up like anything. So, I'm not talking about necessarily that knowledge, although that's very important. Again, we, you know, like we got to keep in mind, it's 10:46 very important that you study your scriptures. It's good for you to read your Bible every single day and live by every word that comes out of it. Don't misunderstand what I'm saying, but here's what I'm suggesting. There's a 10:57 gap between what you can do naturally and actually reaching that 10%. How do you fill the gap? Right? And I'll point you to another verse. Well, here's how you fill the gap. This verse has been on my heart a lot. It's been on my mind a lot. This verse 11:14 is amazing to me. Just this one verse. There's volumes I want to meditate on it. First of all, it's got the entire trinity in the verse, right? You got Jesus in the spirit rejoicing. I see something in this verse. I see the 11:32 father, the son, and the holy ghost are rejoicing. They're all 100% together and excited about what Jesus is praying to his father. And that makes me very curious. And it happens to line up with exactly what I feel the Lord has wanted me to 11:49 share today. that when it comes to hearing that it's not enough to just rely on our academic mind. Some of you are very smart and you've been studying things for many years and it's made you very good at what you do. But I see a limitation and I see that 12:07 the Trinity has is excited about this limitation. And Jesus in the Holy Spirit is rejoicing to his father and he says, "Father, the way you do things are incredible." 12:23 Because those academic scholarly types, they don't get it. All their knowledge, all their reading, all their studying, all their comparing languages and and getting into your word, they completely miss it. Yet, I was listening to these girls 12:43 share their verses and I wanted to go talk to them. Wait, wait, wait. You're Why that verse? Why did you pick that verse this morning? I want to talk to you more about that. Tell me why you picked that verse. And it says again, they're all 12:57 excited. I can't stress that enough. Jesus says, "God will speak and reveal things to little babes." He'll skip the scholars. He'll even skip preachers and he'll say you, I'll speak to you. 13:16 And so that's how we get up to 10%. So I'm saying Bible Bible knowledge alone and again I'm using illustrations Bible just our intellectual study of the Bible 1%. But God can give us revelation and then we can reach the full 10% 13:34 capacity that we need from what we're able to hear from him. But even that we're not proud of. We can't be proud of it. The only thing that happened is God spoke to me and told me what where's their pride? Right? Humble people God 13:49 reveals himself to. And I want to hear like Lord, if you spoke to anybody and they're willing to share it with me, I want to hear what you said. I want to have that same humility. It doesn't have to be directly. I don't 14:01 need a donkey to talk to me. I don't need a burning bish to talk to me. As long as it's from you, use whoever you want, but I want to hear. I want to hear you speak. I want to listen. Going back to that Bible program, the 14:15 answer he gave, he said of all that study, all those people studying the Bible, maybe one. He said maybe two. Now, he was stretching. He had to think about it before he said one. By the way, are you kidding me? How they studied? 14:29 How can you not see Jesus? How can you not surrender your life from studying these scriptures? I hope you're puzzled by that as I was. How can you read the scriptures speak of Jesus from Genesis to Revelation? It's actually pointing about Jesus. Do you 14:45 see it? Why do you see it when scholars don't see it? Because your heavenly father revealed it to you. And Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and the Father, they rejoice in this. And all it leaves us going is even being more humbled to say, "Thank you. Thank 15:04 you that I'm able to see. You've opened my eyes to see things that really smart people can't see. Thank you." That's how we get to 10%. And we're learning to listen. Lord, speak. What are you saying? What are you What are you doing? What work are you 15:22 doing? you know, not big things like things in the world. Tell me what you're doing. I want to be humble. I want to hear. So that's how our hearing comes. So to get to 10%, there's a humility. There's a humility kind of embedded all through 15:39 this. But even to be able to hear God, there must be humility. Let's look at this phrase. I think you guys know it. I think you'll be I think maybe it's the teacher and me. I'm gonna start a phrase and I want you to complete it. Sound 15:51 good? All right, here's the phrase. He who has ears to hear. >> That's amazing. How did you guys know that? I'll tell you how you knew it. It's in 14 verses in the Bible. This is emphasized, right? It's in the Gospel six times. 16:09 It's in a book called, oh, by the way, Revelation eight times. What What does that mean? We all can hear. You guys can hear me. Is there anybody that is deaf right now? Raise your hand if you haven't if you haven't heard anything I've been saying. If you 16:25 haven't heard what I've been saying. You're all hearing me. What do you mean? Who? He who has ears. You all have ears. So, it's Is it only talking about deaf people? Amber works with deaf people that can't hear. Those poor souls. 16:37 They're out of luck. Is that what's being said here? It's not right. It's not It's not physical ears. It's a weird language. What are you saying, Jesus? Well, going right back to Luke 10:21. My question is, which one of you is 16:53 humble enough to listen to me? Which one of you will be like a baby spiritually and ask me to teach you things? It's still revelation. We need revelation. And I tried to point out to you if you're a Christian, if you believe in 17:10 Jesus Christ, because this word of God says that he is the only way, the only truth, the only life. He's the only way to the father. How did scholars miss it and you get it? Because God revealed it to you. That's it. 17:28 So, we need to have that humility always for the rest of our life. Lord, I want you to continue to speak to me and teach me things. I want to listen to you. Show me if there's any area of pride that is preventing my ears from blocking 17:43 your words into my heart. Show me. I don't want it. All right, let's move on. That's 10%. But to get to 50%. We have to do it. It's not enough. Even to get revelation is not enough. There must be a doing. And we're going to look at a 18:02 few verses here. One of the challenging parts about going from hearing to doing to teaching is that I had to leave out a lot of Bible scripture. You guys, God can fill in the gaps for you. It was a hard to put together because like don't 18:15 no things were popping my head. No, no, no. Just this will be enough. But the doing part, right? Here's here's one verse. We'll start with the sermon on the mount. And Jesus says, "Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will shall enter the 18:29 kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my father in heaven." You see right away like Jesus is teaching and Jesus is teaching things that are dealing with the inside. He's dealing with your heart and he's saying it's not enough to just say I know. I 18:47 got it. I know. Right. Remember knowledge just puffs up. I think of I I've had three children and I think I've gone through this with every children. I didn't get your permission to share these stories. By the way, if you're if 19:00 you're one of my children, you're here. Sorry. I thought about asking your permission but I'm just going to go with it. So, with each of my three children, you know, we taught them to do chores. They need to take out the trash, but we 19:12 were trying to teach them to be proactive. Like, we shouldn't have to tell you to take out the trash. If you see it overflowing like a, you know, like like a volcano, it's a good time to take it out. That's what we were trying 19:24 to teach them. If the dishwasher needs to be unloaded, don't wait till we come tell you to unload it. Just do it. We were trying to teach that for many years. Yet, we would come to one of our children. We say, "Hey, the trash needs 19:35 to be taken out." They'd be like, "I know." Okay. Are we the only parents that go through this? Man, you guys have obedient children because they would tell me about their knowledge. Yeah, I can see the overflowing trash can. Okay, 19:52 it's still there. I know. Can you take out the trash? Like, I didn't want to have to say it, but take out the Oh, okay. That's what you were getting at. Yeah, that's what I'm getting at. I don't want you to just know. I want you to do it, right? I want 20:08 you to be a doer of taking out the trash. And so, you know, it's very clear from Jesus's own teaching like I want you guys to do. And here's a here's a verse three verses later. He talks about the the wise man and the foolish man. He 20:23 says the difference between the two is not their hearing. It's not their revelation. It's whether they do it. And if you do it, you'll have a strong foundation built on a rock. But then two verses later, if you don't do it, you're foolish. You're a foolish 20:42 man. Your your your whole foundation is is built on sand. It's going to crumble. All it takes is a very strong test because you haven't been doing. You're not the you're not at the 50 cent knowledge 50% knowledge of this subject 20:57 matter. you're not doing. And then we go to the book of James. Zimmer and I did not coordinate verses this morning, but we did kind of mention because I asked her what verse she was going to share today and she said uh from James chapter 1. I said, you know, 21:12 it's interesting. I'm going to be talking about James chapter 1 as well, right? But it says very clearly, it's not enough to just grow into 10% knowledge and revelation. You need to be a doer of the word. And even in James is 21:27 saying like, I get it. I get you heard it. I get you know, but why aren't you doing? Don't be satisfied with just Bible knowledge. Don't be satisfied with just a revelation of Christ. Do what he tells us to do. And then James says it again 21:43 three verses later. This is this was also part of Zim's passage. She said, "But one who looks at the law intently, who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer, 21:57 but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does." So even after mentioned it once the hearer doer things, James says, "Listen, some of you guys are probably like me. You got to hear things 10 times before 22:10 you get it. So I'll say it again. Be a doer, not just a hearer." Say, "All right, James, we got it now." He says, "No, no, you don't have it." He goes into chapter two. He says, "Listen, what use is it, my brethren, if someone is 22:23 someone says he has faith, but he has no works?" In other words, he hears it, but he doesn't do it. Can that faith save it? Save him? He's saying that even your faith just because you heard and just because you got revelation, you're you 22:41 have no faith if you're not doing. Okay, James, I got it now. He's like, "No, you don't. You don't got it, Josh." He says, "Listen, faith, if it has no works, if it has no doing, if it has no action, is dead. It is dead." 23:00 Okay, I got it, James. No, you don't, Josh. I need to tell you again. Are you Are He says, "But are you willing to recognize you foolish fellow?" Oh, foolish. Where did I hear foolish? Foolish, foolish, foolish. Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. the builders, 23:14 the wise men built his house on the rock. The foolish man built him house on sand. Why was he foolish? Because he didn't do. Well, then his faith, if it has no doing, if it has no works, it's useless. All right, James, I got it. I got I'm 23:30 picking up what you're putting down. He says, "No, you don't. No, you don't. For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without doing, without works is also dead. Okay, I think I got it. 23:49 But you see the love of James to say, listen, I know, listen, I grew up with Jesus. I didn't believe in him. I didn't believe him. But now, now that I I I've seen his death, now that I I know him, I need to I need to hammer 24:06 this point home. I need to make it absolutely clear that you can't just rely on what you hear and what you know. You have to put it into practice. You have to do it. He stresses that to us. Please, brothers and sisters, let's let's do it. Let's be 24:25 doers of the word. And then we I want to give you a secret because this can get very heavy. I know. I know. I'm speaking from my own life. It starts to get very heavy. You start to go. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'm hearing, but I'm 24:40 not I'm not I do do. And so you want to race out of here and just go do something. You you get it all pent up. And I'm telling you, don't do that. Take a step back. And I want to give you this secret. And I want you to put these two verses. Never read one 24:57 without the other. These two verses should always be together when you're thinking about being a doer and not just a hearer because you can get so Marthaike in your doing very quickly and you'll kind of miss the heart of what Jesus was saying 25:15 on the foundations. When Jesus was given that parable, he's saying, "I don't want you to just be a hearer. I want you to experience this. I want you to have life in me. I want this to be your reality. And so you come to a verse like John 25:30 14:15 and Jesus says, "If you love me, I love you. Jesus, you died for me. I love you." And he says, "Then keep my commandments." And I'm like, "Yeah, I want to. I want to keep your I want to be a doer of your commandments. I want to do 25:47 everything that you tell me to do. I want to, but I find it if I'm honest with you, it's such a struggle. It's such a struggle. These things inside of me, it's so hard not to love money. Honestly, if I'm honest with you, 26:03 it's hard not to love it. It's hard not to get angry. It's hard not to be bitter. It's hard, like my brother Mike shared, it's hard to forgive. It's hard. I want to, but I'm finding it very difficult. 26:21 If you're honest with If you're honest with the Lord, you're going to come to that place. I'm all about doing. I'm all excited. I'm all charged up by Josh's message. And I do love you. I picture that scene, you know, at the end of John whenever 26:37 Peter is absolute failure in doing, right? Three times denied the Lord. He knew what he knew what Jesus said. If you deny me before men, I will deny you before my father in heaven. He knew he had he heard that. But when the test came, he failed three 26:54 times. Imagine. So at the end of John, he says, "Do you love me?" Just like he says in that in 14:15, "Do you love me, Josh? Lord, you know I do. You know I love you. Then keep my commandments." 27:12 I agree. But it's hard. It's very hard. I find so many things wrestling inside me. I find my flesh so strong sometimes. Not on Sunday. Usually on Sunday, I'm so encouraged by being around my brothers. But once I get to work, once I start 27:30 going dealing with people and dealing with issues, I find it so hard. Okay. Very next verse. Very next verse. Jesus is in essence saying, "I know it's hard. I know you're going to struggle. I walked a life in this in the likeness of 27:50 sinful flesh, too." And he said, "That's why I'm going to go ask your heavenly father. I'm going to go ask your dad, your daddy, to send help." The Holy Spirit here is identified as a helper. I know you're going to need help. In 28:08 humility, will you ask him for help? I'm going to go to my father. I'm going to ask him to send the Holy Spirit. He He'll be available. All you got to do is ask. Will you do it? Will you humble yourself? And then Jesus gives us encouragement 28:25 even in the same even in the verse. He says, "The Holy Spirit will help you forever. He will be with you forever." So don't get overwhelmed by all this do do and go try to figure out everything you're not doing to satisfy the Lord. 28:42 Just stop here for a moment moment and say I I understand. I get it. I'm to be a doer. I get it. But I need help. Do something inside of me. Come inside of me. Come live inside of me. Come help me so that I can do what you're telling 28:58 me to do. I agree with you, but I need help. And Jesus saw the need even even before we did. Jesus recognized the problem. He knew intimately the struggle. He was tempted in all points as we are yet without sin and said, "I 29:13 know you're going to need help. I remember what it, you know, I know what it's like to walk this earth. I know all the things that you're going to face and I've already made a solution." Ask. Ask him. All right. So there's your 29:32 secret. So don't get overwhelmed by do do. Go to the Lord and say, "I need help even to do this." And you guys know what that this is. So go to the Lord and ask him for help for that. All right. Let's look at teaching. So we come out of James. Remember James 29:49 was hammering us hard about being doers and saying that we don't even have faith if we don't have action, if we don't have doing, if we don't have works. And then we come to James 3:1 and it says this, "Let not many of you become 30:02 teachers, my brethren, knowing that we as such we shall incur stricter judgment." Okay? I mean, there there's a season in my life where I just go, I'm good with the being a 50enter. I don't have to teach because James says, "Let not many become teachers." 30:21 And I believe this is true. This is a true verse. There's, you know, I think that the Lord has given teachers to his church. It says that in Ephesians 4, right? That the Lord gave apostles, he gave evangelists, he gave teachers, he 30:36 gave pastors, he gave I think there's five of them. I think I got most of them, but one of them is teachers, right? And now it says, "Not let not many of you be teachers." Remember he's talking about hearing, hearing, hearing, 30:50 hearing, doing, doing, doing, doing. Now we come to teaching. He says, "All right, here's where I need you to kind of check yourselves." Right? We are under the authority, this church, Austin CFC, is under the authority of 31:03 one of the most anointed, gifted Bible teachers I've ever seen in my life. Right? God has chosen him. It's evident from his ministry. God has backed him up and proven, "I've made you a teacher." And so, this is a warning for us. Yeah. 31:19 You know, there's a in our culture because we value education so highly and we treat professors with such respect. There's a lust in everybody's flesh to be a teacher, to be the expert, to be the subject matter expert that people 31:33 come to for advice or when they have questions. There's something in all of us. And if we're honest, our flesh wants that. And so James is warning, listen, you're going to you're getting you're going to be hearing a lot from the Lord. 31:46 You're going to be doing a lot, but I want you to stop here for a second and be very careful about moving to into a boundary that the Lord has set for you. Don't be so quick to jump into wanting to be an expert now that you've been 31:59 doing and doing and doing. But if we go to Hebrews chapter 5, we get a different instruction. We're getting we're told something a little bit different. we get we're actually we see a correction and it almost sounds contradictory. It 32:20 says for though by this time you ought to be teachers. Okay. Well, which is it? You know, like we have two things that that seem to contradict. Am I a teacher? Am I supposed to be a teacher? Or am I not supposed to be a teacher? Because right 32:36 now the scripture, the Holy Spirit is speaking saying I ought to be a teacher by now. How does how does this line up? So, I would say it like this. The James verse, don't don't seek honor. Don't seek to be above people because 32:52 you're the expert. Don't do that. Right? But it's something like this. I have, you know, when when I had teenage older children and I had, you know, like uh when Zimry was much younger, I expected them to teach Zimry. 33:11 So something like that, right? In other words, by your hearing and by your doing over a season of your life, you should be this is the correction by the way. By this time, teenager, you should be able to teach your younger sister, your 33:29 younger, I said sister, your younger sibling how to brush her teeth. You should be an example of doing your chores. But instead, you are dropping down to her level and you're arguing with her. There's a maturity that I expect in you 33:47 by now where with your siblings, you should be able to guide them and lead them. You should be teaching them by your example. But you're not. You're not. You're not doing what you're supposed to do. And now it's causing 34:01 tensions in our home, in our family. So that's what it's saying. By this time, you ought to be teaching, brothers and sisters. From your years of hearing the word of God and getting revelation on the Lord and doing it by your just 34:14 your life, just you living, you should be an example and a teacher to others. It has nothing to do with you getting honor or standing up in front of everybody and showing how much you know. It has to do with your life naturally 34:26 guiding others. So let's look at let's look at Acts 1:1. Everybody should know this verse. Because you because you love Jesus and you want to learn everything you can about Jesus. You get one of the best secrets about Jesus. 34:45 This was Jesus. He did it and then he taught it. And it's I'm not talking about his ministry. We we are not given Jesus's ministry. There was a ministry that our heavenly father chose for Jesus that was exclusively his. But everything in his 35:03 life did the 1050 90 illustration that I'm giving you. In fact, even if we go back to Luke 2:46, I think it is, it says that they found Jesus in the temple and he was listening and asking questions. In other words, Jesus had ears to hear. 35:25 Here's my chance to listen to scholars that know the Bible. I have questions. I want to hear the answers. Jesus was listening. And then his example, you know, to kick off the book of Acts is like Jesus was a doer and from his life, he taught from his 35:43 life. And so this is the example for all of us. And it's so clear to me that the thing that I was learning two decades ago, the Lord was trying to tell me that this is how I want your Christian life to be. What I taught you in the military 35:57 is the way I want you to live as my disciple. I want you to be keen to listen. I don't want you falling asleep in class. I want you perked up whenever whenever the instructor is up there speaking. You need to be tuned in. I learned that in 36:12 the military, right? Sometimes, you know, like, you know, I see people like talking when, you know, when I'm talking and or they're not really paying attention, they're looking at other stuff. I couldn't get away with that in the 36:23 military. They always say to me, "Listen, when somebody's up there speaking, you need to be engaged. And then you need to go do what they tell you to do, and you need to do it well because the national sec the security of the United States is 36:36 dependent on how well you do your job." Got it, Lord? And then two assignments where I had to teach others. Lord's saying, "That's what I did. That's what I tried to show you how to do. And that's my way of doing things. Do it." 36:52 But we also get a warning and I think you guys are familiar with this verse. So as we're maybe teaching, we're still doing we're still hearing actually. It's all tied together. Remember this is an illustration. I separated them out for 37:10 illustration purposes, but really they're all intertwined. And Paul says something like this. He says, "Yes, I'm a hearer. I listen to the Lord. Yes, I'm a doer. 37:25 But even though I'm c Yeah. Thank you. I really needed that. Thank you. So even though I'm even preaching to others, 37:42 if I don't keep doing right, even I don't reach a place where now I'm a professor, I have tenure in the Christian life and now my sole job is just to tell everybody else what to do. Paul says it 38:00 does not work like that. If I stop doing, if I stop the 50%, I will be disqualified. And so, we don't reach a level in our life where, okay, I've been doing this for many years. I can kind of check back. I can kind of relax, take it easy, 38:17 and all all I got to do now is just tell everybody else what to do. Paul says, if I do that, I will be disqualified. I have to discipline my body even while I'm teaching others. I'm their example. If I'm not doing it, how can I teach it? 38:31 And again, that's very closely linked to the military. Often times they would send us back out to do if we ever got to a place where we were just teaching and say, "What are you doing out here? You go do it and then you can come back and teach." It's 38:44 like you kind of check, you kind of lost the whole purpose of what we're doing here. So Paul said very clearly, "If I don't keep doing and I just think that I can get away with just telling others what to do, I'll I'll get disqualified 38:58 myself." So we take that warning very seriously. And then we come we we we're going to wrap up here in Matthew, the very last verse in Matthew, the great commission. You know, you guys, we spent we've spent years in this 39:11 church focusing on the great commission. We said that there's two prongs, two sides to it. You know, one Mark 16:15, we go into all the world and we preach the gospel to whoever will listen. All creation, we'll even preach it to 39:25 ourselves, the gospel. So that's one side of the great commission. And the other side is this, right? We go and make disciples. We baptize them in the name of the father and the son and the holy spirit who remember remember the what they rejoice 39:44 over. They get excited that when things are revealed to babes and kept from the wise learn, right? We go baptize them in in the name of the trinity. And then it wraps up the whole Matthew wraps up his whole gospel with this with 39:58 the importance of teach. And this isn't just for teachers, anointed teachers. This is for all of us that to fulfill the great commission. We need to be teaching others. But the only way we can do that is if 40:15 we've actually listened, actually heard, actually done. Then the Lord will put us in situations and he will do it. Part of this verse says that I'm with you. I'll I'll do it. I'll put you in the 40:34 right situation. I'll I'll bring the right circumstances so that you will it will be so natural to teach others. You won't even have to think about what am I going to teach because you're doing it. Your doing will teach them. And I will 40:46 set that up. I'm with you always, even to the end of the age. That's a comfort for me. I don't have to figure out what to teach. I just have to hear and I have to do and the Lord will bring the circumstances. And by the way, 41:00 he will get all the glory for it because he was the one that was with me always. He was the one that showed me. He was the one that controlled everything and set it up. I don't even have to come up with the lesson plan. 41:13 He will do that. I just have to do it. I just have to do it. So even the gospel, even the sharing the gospel must start with hearing and doing before we'll ever be given a chance to teach it. And I feel like that sometimes gets 41:30 out of balance. And then the the danger is you'll travel, you know, across land and sea to make one convert and you make them twice a twice a child of hell as yourself. Jesus told the Pharisees that they were evangelists. 41:45 But Jesus also told those Pharisees, "You're not doing it." He told the disciples, listen to what the Pharisees are telling you, but don't do what they do. And then he also says they they're teachers, but the important gap was that 41:59 50% of doing. And so there's a way that God wants us to do it, even to evangelize to others. All right, let's summarize. So pretty simple summary, right? Hearing. Faith comes by hearing. We need to be listened to God every day. Man 42:15 shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds forth from the mouth of God. We are hearers till the end of our life. Listening, listening, listening, waking up as disciples to listen to the word of the Lord. So that 42:28 but that only gets us to 10%, right? And then we take what we've heard from the Lord and we go do it. We say, "Okay, Lord, I just you all I need to do is hear from you and then I'm I'm going to go do it." And we don't get 42:40 discouraged with all the doing. We ask the Lord for help because he offers help through the Holy Spirit to help us do it. So we never need to be discouraged. We never need to feel condemned that we're not doing enough. We just go back 42:51 to our heavenly father and say, "I could use some help. Can you fill me with your Holy Spirit? In fact, this is a big task. Baptize me in the Holy Spirit. Immerse me in your Holy Spirit. I need your help." And then after a period of time, and God can 43:06 decide how long we do that, after a period of time of hearing and doing, the Lord will put us in situations. It may not be a worldwide evangelism ministry, but he'll bring people into our life. It might be our children or our brothers 43:20 and sisters. He'll bring people into our life, and he'll say, "I want you to be an example for them, and I'm I'm I'm right here with you, and I'll help you do it." Amen. All right. So there's no uh there's no other close. 43:36 I'm going to be the last one that speaks today, but I do want to go to the Lord in prayer al together. And so if there's anything that was shared, any verse, and really I hope it was the verses that spoke to you, not my 43:53 words, that the Lord through his spirit showed you some area where you're not hearing, where you're relying maybe more on your intellect than his revelation. Maybe you have a hindrance because you're very smart. People have told you 44:10 your whole life how smart you are, and you think that will just translate into Bible knowledge. Maybe you don't come to him like a little baby and say, "I need you to teach me, Father." Maybe you're there. Maybe you need 44:27 revelation. Maybe you've heard all this teaching, but it's not real to you. I've heard that confessed recently, and I appreciate so much the honesty where people are willing to say like, "Yeah, I hear these truths, but I'm just not there yet." 44:45 So if you're there, come like a little child and say, "I need revelation. I need to hear from you. I don't I don't need to hear from the elders of this church. I I don't need to hear from uh even anointed Bible teachers. I need to 45:00 hear from you. Speak to my heart." Maybe you're there. Or maybe you've been listening for many years. You've been a Christian for many years and you're finding an area that's very hard to do. Maybe it's what brother Mike 45:17 shared. Maybe there's an area of forgiveness that you were reminded of of something that happened to you years ago. And it's very hard to forgive even once, let alone 70 times, seven times. Just that bitterness has been 45:33 held for so long, you don't know what to do. But right now in your heart, ask the Holy Spirit to give you that power to forgive. Ask your older brother Jesus, your forerunner, know knew you would need 45:50 help. Ask him to help you do. And then ask the Lord to maybe you've been hearing and doing for many years, but you feel there's something else. there's something some other area where the Lord wants to work and you're 46:08 not sure what that is or how to bring that about. Ask the Lord to make you a teacher. Ask him to give you such a love in your heart for other people that you can't help but serve them to show them the wonderful things that 46:23 you've heard and been able to do through the Lord Jesus Christ. And you're dry and you're empty and you're not sure what your purpose is. Tell him he promises to be with us to the end of the age to never leave us as orphans. 46:41 He wants to use us. But are you completely yielded to him? Are your ears completely tuned to him? Is your heart truly willing to do anything he asks you to do? Or maybe the problem is pride. 47:03 The Lord wants to do so much through us and the obstacle that he keeps coming up against is like if I do this for you, if I really give you revelation on me and my word, you will become so proud that I will have to deal with you so severely. 47:21 Maybe that's the problem. Or maybe through doing we start looking down at others who don't do what we do. Maybe that's the problem. Or maybe if we are teaching others, our head will become so swollen with pride 47:39 that the Lord will have to again deal very severely with us. Maybe that's the problem. I don't know, brothers and sisters, what's going through your heart. I know what's going through mine. And Lord, I pray that you will deal with 47:53 me. That your Holy Spirit will come and show me any area that I'm not humble like Jesus where I think I know everything. I know what I'm supposed to do. I know what you want from me. Maybe I'm so arrogant to presume that I know what a 48:11 holy and powerful God already expects. Brothers and sisters, maybe we need to go to square one and learn basic training. Not come with anything that we thought we knew, but come with nothing. Nothing 48:29 in my hand I bring. Simply to thy cross I cling. Maybe that's where we need to go back to. I don't know. I don't know where you are, but I know the one that can help any of these scenarios. Heavenly Father, we come to you through 48:47 the blood of Christ. And Lord, we're so thankful that you're not satisfied with just letting us hear something. That you're not satisfied with letting only smart people know your word and know you. 49:06 Lord, your ways are wonderful. where you look upon the the meakest and the most humble and you say, "That's the one that I'll share my life with." And Lord, forgive us of pride. Forgive us of that arrogance that says, "I know. 49:23 I know what that scripture says. I've read that scripture for many years." Lord, show us the humility of Jesus that was willing to learn obedience through suffering. Help us to be like him and to bring the same joy to others that 49:39 he brought and the same life to others that he brought. Lord, make us a humble people that you say, "I'm I'm proud to use that church. I'm very pleased, maybe that's a better word, I'm pleased to use Austin 49:55 CFC because they're so humble. They'll give all the glory to me if I use them. They'll give all the credit for the power that I I give them. They'll give it back to me. Lord, if that's not us, 50:13 make that us. Lord, you're worthy. Lord, you deserve it. Have your way in us. Lord, change us. Change our thinking. Change everything that's not pleasing to you. 50:29 I pray these things in Jesus name. Amen.
