Title: How To Maintain Simple And Pure Devotion To Christ
Date: 12-11-2016
Our Goal as Christians is this: To be an exact reflection of Jesus, the Son of God (Romans 8:29)
We do this individually by growing in purity in our personal lives (1 John 3:2-3)
We do this corporately by becoming fully functioning members of a local Church (Ephesians 4:11-16)
Summary
To maintain pure devotion to Christ, one must actively guard against doubts regarding God's good intentions, which the devil exploits by making us question God's love. This requires renewing the mind by immersing oneself in Scripture, using God's Word as a 'bit' to rein in emotional doubts and affirm God's consistent, loving will. Furthermore, spiritual readiness requires actively applying teachings from church meetings to avoid spiritual 'NSF' charges when trials come.
Outline
The message in plain words, in the order it unfolds. Select a time to jump the video to that moment.
Meeting our actual needs through fellowshipWe should bring our real needs and burdens into church meetings, expecting the Lord to speak directly to them rather than just giving us theory.
Avoiding spiritual insufficient fundsJust like a bank account can be overdrawn, we experience spiritual deficits on tough days if we do not actively receive and store up the prophetic deposits given during church meetings.
How did the serpent deceive Eve?To understand how to maintain simple and pure devotion to Christ, we must examine how Satan led Eve astray by making her doubt God's good intentions.
Rejecting every thought that causes us to doubt God's loveWhen painful commands cause our flesh to revolt, we must reject the lie that God is unloving and instead anchor ourselves in the truth of His kind intentions.
Preaching the word to our emotionsLike the psalmist who talked to his own soul, we must use the promises of Scripture as a bit to control our runaway emotions and guard our devotion.
Our absolute need for the Holy SpiritAlong with trusting God's kind intentions, we desperately need to be continually anointed and immersed in the power of the Holy Spirit.
The disciples' struggle with doubt and fearEven the apostles who later turned the world upside down showed deep human weakness, questioning themselves before the crucifixion and doubting even as Jesus gave the Great Commission.
Moving from fear to conviction through the SpiritDespite having heard Jesus teach and seen Him resurrected, the disciples were commanded to wait until they were clothed with power from on high.
Seeking a fresh filling every single dayA past assurance of the baptism of the Holy Spirit does not replace our daily need to wait on God and be filled afresh.
Standing on God's promises to give the SpiritJesus promised to send the Helper, and we can ask our heavenly Father with absolute confidence that He will give the Holy Spirit to those who ask.John 14:16
