Recognizing our conscience and the problem of sinGod made us different from the rest of creation by putting a conscience within us, which acts like the nerves of the soul to warn us against sin.
The check illustrationJust having a financial check written in your name does no good unless you take it and deposit it, and God has written a check of salvation for every person that must be received.
How to respond to God's salvationBecause God has already finished the work, how you personally respond determines your eternal destiny.
First, honestly admit that you are full of sinYou must be honest with yourself and God right now about needing to be saved, as honesty is where it all starts.
Secondly, decide to turn away from sinRepentance means not wanting to do sinful things anymore, recognizing that while sin has temporary pleasure, it ultimately leads to disappointment.
Thirdly, believe that Jesus is able to save youYou must believe that Jesus died and rose again to save you completely, reaching out to take the check God is holding out to you.
The pig and the cat heart illustrationBefore Jesus, we have hard stony hearts that love to sin like pigs love mud, but God offers to give us a completely different nature that hates sin.
Becoming a part of God's familyBy asking God to remove your sin and put His Spirit within you, you become His spiritual child and part of His family.John 1:12
How to come to God and trust His promisesYou do not need magic words, just quietly ask God in your own words to save you, and trust Jesus rather than your feelings because He always keeps His promises.John 6:37
