When we praise the Lord, we make a throne for him. 26:00 When you praise the Lord, despite your circumstances and situations, you make a throne for the Lord. And when the throne of the Lord is, demons and all his hosts have to flee in dread and fear. 26:19 So don't hesitate. Whatever is your situation this morning, open your mouth. Confess your hope that the Lord is going to do wondrous things. Don't bring to your mind things of the 26:37 past. He's going to cause showers of blessings on you and make you a blessing. Whenever a person turns to the Lords, 29:04 the veil is taken away. And today we have a command from Ephesians chapter 6 verse 11. Put on the full armor of God 29:23 so that you'll be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. Let's say that again. Ephesians 6:11. Put on the full armor of God 29:43 >> so that you'll be able to >> stand firm against the schemes of the devil. >> Yeah. This morning we are glad that Suresh is in our midst and he will 30:02 bring forth God's word to us. May the Lord anoint his word and his servant. Good morning brothers and sisters. 30:28 As we were praying now, brother Charles said, "Thank you, oh my father, for giving us your son, for leaving the Holy Spirit till the work in us is done." I want to say amen to that. That corresponds to the burden on my heart today. 30:47 The message we heard on Sunday was seek the power of the Holy Spirit always. And as we heard this promise is for you is for your children and I should put my name there. Uh I need this I need this power. And I was reminded of a phrase uh that 31:07 we often use in what we call the Lord's prayer. It's actually our prayer that the Lord taught us to pray. It's in Matthew 6:13. It says, "Yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory." I think we know this. We may not need to look it up. 31:21 Yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever and ever. Uh, and we we see that the power of the Holy Spirit is given to those who want Jesus to be king, who want Jesus to be ruler over 31:40 every aspect of their life, and who want all the glory to belong to to to him. and they're not seeking something for themselves. And uh we can look at Romans 14:17 also which gives us a definition of the the kingdom 31:59 of God. Says the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking but righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. The kingdom of God is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. So we 32:19 need the Holy Spirit to establish the rule of Jesus in every aspect of our lives. And that kingdom of Jesus Christ where Jesus is my king will be marked by righteousness, peace and joy will be characterized by righteousness, peace 32:36 and joy. And uh this phrase, the kingdom, the power, and the glory. Thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory. I I found that there's a u very similar words in a prayer that David prayed. And I I want to for us to turn there in 32:56 1 Chronicles chapter 29 and verse 11. So this is where David was um praying and dedicating the temple and we see something of David's heart 33:20 there his clear understanding that the Lord is the one who had placed him there as king and the Lord was actually king and and he says yours oh lord is the greatness and the power and the glory 33:37 and the victory tree and the majesty indeed everything that is in heavens and on the earth is yours. You are Lord over the heavens and you are Lord over the earth and yours is the dominion or the rule or the kingdom and you exalt 33:53 yourself as head over all. Um and now therefore we thank you and praise your glorious name. And he says, "Who am I that we should be able to offer anything to you?" 34:11 This was a man after God's heart. And uh he he saw clearly that God alone is sovereign. He appoints people. And when he talks about the temple in the verse before that, we can see that he says 34:28 uh verse 28, 1st Chronicles verse 28. In verse two, he says, "I wanted to build a home for the ark of the Lord, but the Lord said, you shall not do it." And then he stopped. He said, "No." Lord said, "I'm not going to do it." 34:43 Then the Lord said, "Of all my sons, for the Lord has given me many sons, he has chosen my son Solomon to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the Lord over Israel." And he said if you look at a you know a parallel 35:02 u version of the story it says a son shall be born to you. So this desire was in David's heart early in his life as a king to build a temple for the lord. And the lord said a son shall be born to you. So it's not one of the sons who was 35:17 born to him already. and uh he has chosen Solomon uh to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the Lord over Israel. So brothers and sisters, just to recognize that the Lord's choosing is why we are 35:35 here and the Lord has chosen a plan for us and we want him to be king and sovereign over our lives and he is exalted over all. We don't want to exalt ourselves to really take that to heart. Um, and and I also thought about, you know, 35:53 what we heard from brother Charles that we leak through our mouths. We long to be filled with the Holy Spirit. We want to be continually filled with the Holy Spirit. But the things that come out of our mouths are what grieve and quench 36:06 the Holy Spirit. And the things that come out of our mouths are what fight against, you know, the kingship or the lordship of Jesus Christ. And I thought we could uh think about David as a picture of Jesus who is king. I thought 36:22 of this verse in u Ephesians 1. We can look at it together. Ephesians chapter 1:es 5 and 6. It's it's interesting that uh Ephesians 36:44 chapter 4 uh chapter 1 verse4 begins the next sentence. It says he chose us in him before the foundation of the world that we would be holy and blameless before him. So Lord Jesus had a plan for my life each of our 37:02 life if we have that relationship with him. He chose us that we might be holy and blameless before him. And in love, he predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to himself. 37:19 Um according to the kind intention of his will and and and the next verse says to the praise of the glory of his grace which he freely bestowed on us in the beloved. Brothers and sisters, I don't know if any of you have looked up the name uh 37:37 the meaning of the name David. Um I looked it up and I found that it's um often helpful, edifying, encouraging for us. We learn something by looking at the names. You know, Abraham is obviously a very good example, right? Uh you know, 37:54 he had a name and then God gave him a new name. uh but but many other people in the Bible if we look at the meaning of their names you know we see that there's God's sovereignty working somehow God knew in advance what they should have been named 38:07 right even though they didn't make make a choice anyway David means beloved okay David means beloved and and this verse that says the grace that he has freely bestowed on us in the beloved uh and if you look at the King James 38:24 version it says his grace by which we are accepted in the beloved. That's a wonderful phrase. We can take it to heart. The beloved is, you know, capital B. It's a picture of Jesus Christ. We are accepted in the beloved. 38:41 And God has chosen us to be sons through Jesus Christ that he might bestow freely his grace on us. So we receive grace from God through our relationship with Jesus Christ and we are chosen as sons 38:57 of the king and uh he has accepted us in the beloved. And I I thought we could think about King David as a picture of Jesus who is king and learn some lessons uh from the bad examples of his son. So if you know anything about the story of 39:15 David's sons, you know, you can see that they didn't just live happy lives rejoicing that they were sons of the king and that they were accepted in the beloved. You know, I've often heard brother Zach saying, you know, suppose 39:27 you are the son of the prime minister. Uh you know, if you had any problem, you just you just call him, right? You would rejoice and you'd be at peace. But uh much more than that, you know, was the power of a king. uh you know the 39:44 prime minister's part a little complicated but the king's par is you know uh and but these these sons of David they didn't experience that joy and peace and satisfaction and you know rejoicing that they were sons of the 39:59 king that they were accepted in the beloved uh and and it's because they were seeking an earthly kingdom right that's so clear they were seeking an earthly kingdom kingdom and uh you know we can think of ourselves as being in the place 40:18 of David's sons and God's promise for us his uh you know desire for us is that he should bestow the riches of his grace on us as we rejoice in our position as sons of the king as we rejoice that we are accepted in the beloved 40:37 and um yeah but but we can lose this So, I think of a couple of verses. Um, yeah. Galatians 4:6. It says, "Because you are sons, God has 40:55 sent forth the spirit of his son into our hearts crying above father." That is what the holy spirit does. No, it's the spirit of his son Jesus Christ. And Jesus always lived in that full and rich relationship with his father crying aba 41:10 father. And that is the Holy Spirit that he sent into our hearts. And and then I think of this verse uh Romans 5:5 where it talks about the Holy Spirit. And it says our hope does not disappoint. The hope that we have in 41:27 Jesus Christ will not disappoint us because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who's been given to us. This Holy Spirit is so that I will be overflowing with love. So that I will 41:41 know with all my heart that I am accepted in the beloved that his grace is available to me that I have all I need in my relationship with Jesus Christ. And uh yeah, but we can see the danger you know of those who don't have the 41:59 love of the father in them. And these are all verses that we know. 1 John 2:es 3 and 4, it says, "Do not love the world or the things of the world. For if anyone loves the world, the love of the father is not in them." Sorry, Jo 1 John 42:14 chapter 2 15 and 16. 1 John chapter 2 15 and 16. If anyone loves the world, the love of the father is not in him. And we see this picture in the sons of David. They were pursuing an earthly kingdom and they didn't rejoice, you know, in the love and 42:33 goodness of of their father David or in the sovereignty of God who had appointed their father David as king. And if I love and I'm looking for seeking the things of this world, a kingdom of this world for myself and I want to exalt 42:50 myself uh and and question the sovereignty uh the sovereign choice of God who is exalted over all then uh then I cannot receive the power to overcome and I don't have the love of the father in me 43:09 and uh and and it says you You know the next verse, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, the boastful pride of life, these things are not from the father and from the world. So if we look at the sons of David, um 43:24 you could look at 2 Samuel chapter 3 or 1st Chronicles chapter 3. So both of them are chapter 3. Uh let let's turn to 2 Samuel chapter 3 and we see a list of kings there. I could put it up for you. There's not much more in that than than 43:38 what we have on the slide. So we can just look at it. Uh if you if you can advance the slide uh brothers. Yeah. So we see that we are a picture of the sons of David, you know, and we are accepted in Jesus Christ. But if we look 43:58 at who these sons of David were, uh you can pull that up. It's in the table. Yeah. Yeah. So that's actually the order. And you can see I've put it in in the wrong order. If you can look at the slide. So the first son son was Amnon 44:14 and the second son is called Chileab. Okay. And I' I've put him last for a reason. And then the third son was Abselum. And the fourth son was Adonijah. So you have the four sons of of David over there. And uh yeah and and 44:33 we can see that they all had problems. They weren't satisfied to just be sons of David and to submit to his sovereignty, submit to his wisdom, to ask him when they needed something. They had ambitions of their own. They exalted 44:49 themselves. And these are the tendencies that come up in our heart. And I said the problem is that they were looking for an earthly kingdom, right? And they loved the world. So if we look at those problems uh that are there 45:03 so we'll see that Amnan caused problems because of sexual lust. The lust of the flesh was so strong for him and he was the son of the king but you know he was just consumed by the sexual lust. So let's think about that and what we can 45:19 learn. We can look at Abselum who you know the boastful pride of life and u he was so taken up with his own beauty and his glory and uh he rebelled against the king he had a spirit of of rebellion and boasting 45:37 and we can look at Adonijah who was a coward was a fearful man he didn't have courage to do anything bold but his eyes were on the throne He was waiting in line. He was saying, "Oh, Amnan is gone. Absalam is gone. 45:55 Chilab is chilling. We'll come to that." So, I'm I'm next. No, I'm next in line. No. And I'm not doing anything. I'm just talking to people. Just trying to make a good impression. Let me talk to Joab. The king is growing old. I'm not going 46:11 to do anything. One of these days he'll die. And the love of the father, brothers and sisters, was not in him. When we see our life marked by these things, taken up by these things, there are, you know, families that we have to 46:30 be on guard against. They come to the church saying, "Oh, I want a good boy, you know, for my daughter or more likely, I want a good girl for my son." That's their ambition. They're looking for something earthly. And, you know, 46:42 that's why they come. That's why they come to church. That's the sort of, you know, driving purpose. Oh, and the Lord has said, "Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and everything else you need will be added unto you." 46:59 And to really say that I am accepted in the beloved and God has chosen me before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless before him in love. And he is the one who has made me a son son of the king and he will freely bestow his 47:16 grace on me. And that is the desire of my heart. That is what I'm seeking for. And uh yeah we we can think you know about Amnon. He thought and you know the Bible 47:33 records him as saying and thinking that he was in love. But what sort of love was that? No. and and it says that he made himself ill. So we can look at this. It's in 2 Samuel 13. It's good for us to turn 47:51 there, spend a little time and apply this to ourselves because these are all stories and areas that we all struggle with. So 2 Samuel chapter 13, the whole story 48:09 is there. And uh it says he was frustrated. He was the first son of the king and he was frustrated 48:28 and he had a so-called friend. Now if we think about what this friend did and the way the friend influenced him, he was actually an enemy. No. And this friend said, "Why are you so depressed morning after morning? Will you not tell me 48:48 brothers and sisters, this is the temptation that we all have? We look for friends and you know relatives and ungodly people and we talk freely. We tell them this is what's happening." We tell them sobb stories, 49:07 you know, or we tell them great things about ourselves. Uh I I want to open up that next box now. I think it's it's useful as we think of all of these stories. Now that next box that says how we use our tongue, uh brothers, can you just move the slide 49:25 one one step? Yeah. So I mean that entire box is together because all of these people who you know fought against the king used their tongue in their attacks. Okay. And uh one of the things that they did and said were were 49:44 lies. Lies and deception. It says in the end times people will go from bad to worse deceiving and being deceived. So certainly you know when lies start touching our tongue we are self deceived but we also deceive others 50:02 and then boasting oh you know it there's there's a verse in in Ephesians that says boasting is excluded by the law of faith we have nothing to boast of everything that we have is because of the goodness of the king because of the goodness of 50:19 God. And if I truly trust in him, then I have no need to boast. My boasting is of the Lord and his goodness and his greatness. And the third is self-pity. There's no place for any of these things in our life. Brothers and sisters, I look at 50:38 Jesus. It says there were no lies. There was no deceit in his mouth. And I think of how he reacted to Peter when Peter, you know, was coming to him with that spirit of self-pity. Peter thought of himself as a friend of Jesus. He said, 50:52 "Oh, this shouldn't happen to you." Jesus said, "Get behind me, Satan." He understood that in the these three three areas, if our tongue is inflict infected by these three areas, it is from Satan. And brothers and sisters, if our tongue 51:07 is infected in in these ways, then we are fighting against Jesus our king. And the Holy Spirit wants to set our tongue on fire with a flame full of love. He's the spirit of truth. He's the spirit of humility. 51:25 He's the spirit who glorifies God. And uh yeah, and we see that Amnon listened to his friend and he was depressed. He was feeling sorry for himself and his friend gave him some some bad advice 51:44 and brothers I'd encourage you if you've never read the story that you should read it you know for yourself and just apply it to your own lives. He he was um you know consumed with with sexual lust. And 51:59 this this girl you know that he that he was was looking after or seeking for. She was not a wise girl. She went along with him. But she said something uh that really spoke to my heart and we can all take to heart. She said it too 52:19 late. You know she had already gone got herself into a dangerous place Tamar but she said uh speak to the king 13 2 Samuel 13:13 please speak to the king he will not 52:36 withhold me from you brothers and sisters I especially speak to the young people or all of us who are struggling broadly in this area of sexual lust. There may be some habit, there may be some relationship, there may be some person 52:54 and we feel like we cannot live without them and it is a lie. It is a deception. What should we do? Speak to the king or speak to some godly person from whom you can hear the voice of God. You can be influenced by what Jesus wants. 53:13 That is what we must do. Tell it to Jesus. Tell it to Jesus. He is a friend that's wellnown and and you know we know that Amnan didn't do that. He used lies. He used deception. He spoke to Jesus. There's I mean he spoke to the king the David. He 53:32 there's no way he could have done anything without but he he pretended that he wanted something else and he was seeking after something else. And uh yeah sisters I I want to say this that you know if if some boy in your 53:49 life or some influencer in your life is boasting showing off saying great things about themselves or they are you find that they are telling lies. They you may not realize they are telling you lies because that might come later. Once you realize that 54:05 you know hopefully you'll run away. But if you realize they're telling lies to anybody and you imagine you're the only person they're not telling lies to, then you know you're fooling yourself, right? And I'll tell you what sort of lies 54:15 they'll say. They'll say, "Oh, you're so cute. You're special. You're beautiful." They'll flatter you. Okay? And like like Amnan said, "Oh, I really love your cooking, Tamar." You know, what he was looking for was something else. 54:30 and uh or if they tell you some sobb story and all of these things can come together you know lies sobb stories boastful claims in those whose tongue is set on fire by the fire of hell and brothers guard your tongues guard your minds if 54:49 your mind is going in these directions you know sooner or later it'll come out in your tongue say Lord I don't want to be like this let my tongue be set on fire by from the Holy Spirit and let me exalt my king. Let me not seek a kingdom 55:03 for myself. Yeah. In our marriages, we must seek the kingdom of God. We must make it our priority that God Jesus is happy with my marriage. That I am keeping the commandments of Jesus Christ in relation to my marriage. That he is happy. That I 55:22 am as a husband uh I am loving my wife as Jesus loved the church. That's my priority. See, it says, "Seek first the kingdom of God." Uh, you know, all these things the Gentiles eagerly seek. All the Gentiles also want to be happily married. 55:40 Everybody wants to be happily married. But what is their definition of a happy marriage? Definition of a happy marriage is I should be happy. I should be satisfied. No. And some of them will say, "Okay, I have to make my, you know, partner happy 55:55 in order for me to be happy." Some of them don't go that far. Brothers and sisters, this is not what the life is the life that Jesus has called us to. He says, "Seek the kingdom of God and God will give you everything you need." 56:11 He will do it. He will give you fulfillment, satisfaction. See, 100% 100% if Amnan had gone to David, it would have been better for him. If he had said, "Father, this is how I'm feeling. What should I do? I don't know what exactly David would have done. You 56:29 know, it seems like there are complications. See, young brothers, you may feel like, oh, there's this girl, you know, but elders won't agree, parents won't agree, godly people won't agree. You talk about it. Talk about it. 56:43 See, there's a wonderful promise I want to point you to. Uh Psalms 84. and verse 11. For the Lord God is a son and shield. 57:04 The Lord gives grace and glory. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly or walk in integrity. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly or walk in integrity. And you know this Tamar said he will not 57:23 withhold me from you. See if that was a good thing. You know that's that's how I mean I don't we can forget about David and Tamar for now in my life instead of me getting obsessed with someone or something. I can talk to Jesus and if 57:41 that is a good thing and I walk in integrity, I go to him and say things as they are or I go to a godly person and ask for help and advice, no good thing will he withhold from me. See, our definition of good, you know, has to change. 57:59 But he will do it. He will do it. Tell it to Jesus. Talk to Jesus. Yeah. I want to turn to the next person. Abselum who succumbed to the boastful pride of life. We can see he was a proud man. He was an attention seeker, a rebel. 58:18 Uh again, you know, I encourage you to read the stories for yourselves, brothers and sisters. We, you know, don't have the time to do that now, but but we've know, hopefully many of us have heard these things over the years. 58:35 And uh you know he was the sort of person who said oh Joab you know I'm trying to talk to him he's not paying attention to me let me cause some trouble let me set fire to his field this is the way a proud person acts no 58:49 demand attention raise your voice uh be be a troublemaker and he was consumed with revenge we can look at proverbs 24 29 it's a good verse for us to take to heart proverbs 24:29 N do not say thus I shall do to him as he 59:15 has done to me. I will render to the man according to his work. See the Bible tells us that Jesus will render to every man according to his work in the final day in that day of judgment. We're waiting for that day. Justice will be done. We have to live in 59:34 fear that justice will be done in relation to what we have done as well. We don't have to take that place. We cannot take that place. Jesus will render to every man according to his work. So do not say I will do to him as 59:49 he has done to me. Oh, you know he's speaking badly. He has bad motives. He has bad plans. Don't take that place. Don't exalt yourself. Leave it in the hands of God. Rejoice that your heavenly father loves you. You're accepted in the 1:00:06 beloved. Trust him. It's a proud man that says, "I will do to him as he has done to me." And you know, he was plotting revenge. And uh and see both of these people Amnon and and Abselum, they thought for some time 1:00:25 that they had gotten away with it. Now Amn Amnan did what he did and another two years nothing happened. But you know there's there's a verse we can look at in 2 Samuel. We can turn turn back there. 2 Samuel where it says 1:00:50 2 Samuel 13 2 Samuel 13:32 this Jonadab same person you know who influenced him so-called friend the last part of that verse this has 1:01:09 been determined since the day that he violated his sister Tamar. We cannot God is not mocked. Sin has consequences. No, what you sow you will reap. And his destruction was determined from the time he did it. Uh in this case, it was a man's plan, but God 1:01:28 allowed it. And in case of Absalom, he exalted himself. It says he escaped. He took revenge and then he escaped to his uh grandfather's house, his mother's father's house. He thought, "Oh, I've got somebody else to back me. He's also a king. David's not 1:01:44 going to conquer, you know, come and grab me from there." He had a backup plan. He had, you know, friends of his own. And this is where we are tempted to exalt ourselves, brothers and sisters, as opposed to putting my faith and trust 1:02:00 entirely in Jesus. And uh yeah and and and we see that his pride was sort of symbolized by his hair. Uh you know he had this prodigious growth of hair and he would cut his hair 1:02:18 once a year. You can imagine he would oil it and look at himself. He was a very handsome man. And you know that handsome man came from his dad right? It was his dad's jeans. Uh but he was so proud of his hair and that hair was his downfall. You know he 1:02:37 got caught in the branches. If we read the story he got caught in the branches and we have to question ourselves and ask you know what is what is the equivalent of of the hair in my life? Uh, is there something that I look at 1:02:51 and rejoice and forget that every good thing that I have, every good gift comes down from the father of lights and is meant, you know, for his glory. And uh, yeah, we we see that he exalted 1:03:08 himself. He got puffed up and that was his downfall. And then we have Adonija. Uh we can turn to first kings chapter 2 and verse 15 shows us his attitude of heart. 1:03:38 So this is, you know, after he exalted himself, after King David put Solomon on the throne, uh his his attitude of heart was this, you know, that the kingdom was mine. Who 1:03:58 told him that the kingdom was his? The kingdom was never his. He exalted himself. He was thinking, "Oh, Solomon, Solomon's young. He's there. There are three or four other sons, five or six other sons, you know, before Solomon 1:04:09 comes. I'm next, next. And I'm not rebelling against the king or anything. I'm just influencing people. I'm just talking to them. And that spirit of, you know, grabbing the throne, inching towards the throne, trying to make a good impression, 1:04:29 why do we do it? Because the love of the father is not in us. and winning people to myself. May it may it never be. He says, "All Israel expected me to be king. However, the kingdom has turned about and become my brothers, for it was his from the 1:04:46 Lord's." See, we see that pious phrase over there. Oh, it was his from the Lord's. But next thing, you know, let me try and grab the throne in a sneaky way. And that's why he makes this uh request for for Abishek because there's a symbolism 1:05:03 there, right? Abishek was his king's was his father's concubine and there's a symbolism there. And Solomon was a wise man. He recognized that. Brothers and sisters, sooner or later, if this is the overriding ambition of 1:05:18 our heart, you know, maybe we're not caught for a long time. We're inching towards self-exalting. Pray that the Lord will stop you in his wisdom, in his goodness, that you will receive correction, rebuke from the king before it's too late. 1:05:34 And we can see that there's a self-pity, a spirit of self-pity there, right? Uh so this is this is what I I I want to end with brothers and sisters. U you know if we look at the meanings of the names which is the my last column for 1:05:51 each of these sons of the king Amnon means faithful was he faithful he was not faithful okay he said oh I love this girl I'll do anything for her 1:06:09 and the next moment when he got what he wanted he hated her says he hated her very much. He hated her more than he loved her. That is what will happen to us when we reach out and grab things that are not given to us by God. 1:06:27 No, we don't know ourselves. We can fool ourselves. He was not faithful. Abselum means father of peace. He was not a peaceful man. He didn't, you know, live up to the name that God gave him. So, I'm not saying your name is 1:06:43 definitive that, you know, you will. It may be God's hope and promise for you, right? And not all of us have meaningful names. So I'm not talking about you know that all of us can learn something from this. But I saw a lesson here. The next 1:06:56 person Adonijah said, "God is my lord." And he recognized that Solomon became king from the Lord. And then what is he doing? Still inching forward seeking to exalt himself. And all of these people, you know, didn't live up to their name. So I want 1:07:12 to come to Chileab uh and and Daniel and the meaning of his name. Yeah, maybe you can advance brother. So his name so what is special about him? See we don't know anything about him. We can't read much into the silence of 1:07:27 scripture but it seems remarkable to me that the first son had a problem. The third son had a problem. The fourth son had a problem. The second son didn't have any problem. Right? uh and uh his name means the perfect image of his father. That's what Chiliab 1:07:45 means. And if that can be my entire intention, brothers and sisters, what a glorious what a glorious aspiration that is that I just want to be just like my father. I don't want the throne. It belongs to him. It belongs to whoever God has given 1:08:00 that you know and position, authority, whatever it is. Let it go. I want to be just like my father. I want to be made growing in the perfect image of my father. And and he had another name. You can look at you know one is in 2 Samuel 1:08:18 3. The other is in 1 Chronicles 3. It was also called Daniel. Daniel is God is my judge. God is my judge. No, I don't make these decisions. God ju chooses for me. Uh brothers and sisters, this this is the burden on my heart that we can take 1:08:37 this and apply it to ourselves and say I am accepted in the beloved. The Holy Spirit has come to set my tongue on fire with a flame of love. That there will be no lies, there will be no boasting, there will be no self-pity, that I will 1:08:51 rejoice in the grace that he gives, and that I will grow in the perfect image of my father. [Music] I praise the Lord for what the word we 1:14:41 heard this morning. And as we just sang, come unto Jesus and take up your cross. That's that's what uh was coming into my heart as I was listening to brother Sur especially one thing what I heard struck me that is about the use of our 1:15:01 tongue. If you could turn with me to Ephesians, Ephesians chapter 4 verse 31, sorry, 13 says, "Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of 1:15:25 God by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption." The Holy Spirit has separated us and uh sealed us for the day of redemption and it is possible that we can grieve the Holy Spirit. In what context that is mentioned in previous verse if you look 1:15:43 at it says let no unh wholesome word proceed from your mouth but only such as a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment so that it will give grace to 1:16:00 those who hear. It is speaking in the context of using our tongue. That's where we can grieve the Holy Spirit. And uh for those who are struggling, struggling means you feel or you recognize the Holy Spirit has convinced 1:16:17 you or convicted you that when you spoke, you were not under the control of the Holy Spirit and you repented. Lord, please forgive me. Lord, this is not the way you would have behaved. So I have a word of encouragement. If you could turn 1:16:34 with me to uh Acts of the Apostles 23, Acts chapter 23, Acts 23: Maybe I'll read from the first verse of 1:17:00 uh Acts chapter 23. Paul looking intently at the council said, "Brothers, brethren, I have lived my life with a perfectly good conscience before God up to this day." Then the high priest Ananas commanded 1:17:17 those who standing beside him to strike him on the mouth. Then Paul said to him, "God is going to strike you, you whitewashed wall. Do you sit to try me according to the law and in violation of the law order me 1:17:36 to uh me to be struck? But the bystander said, "Do not do you revile the God's God's high priest." And Paul said, "I was not aware, brothers, that he was a high priest, for it is written, you shall not speak evil of a ruler of your 1:17:52 people." So he recognized and uh I felt he had a a spirit of repentance in his heart and I also believed that he went back home and wept lord Jesus help me to be like you because the same thing happened to Jesus 1:18:11 in John chapter 18 you don't need to turn there but then the the officer struck Jesus on his mouth Jesus didn't say you whitewash tomb But Jesus not not silent either. Jesus asked why do you struck me if I said something wrong tell me what is wrong. 1:18:30 So it's a great encouragement. Apostle Paul begin his life or he had a past where he struggled and the same man if you come to Galatians chapter 2 we see how his tongue was under the control of the Holy Spirit 1:18:49 not fearing people not fearing men's opinion because some of us there are different temperament We we like to speak always but some of us are we are afraid to open our mouth. 1:19:08 So we can look at this example of Paul in second uh Galatians chapter 2. uh Galatians chapter 2:1. 1:19:37 But when Peter came to Antioch, I opposed him face to face. Now, who is Peter? Peter was a man. We know he was a leader, recognized leader and uh he preached to thousands of people and they got saved. And uh he was with the Lord 1:19:56 Jesus Christ. And who is Paul? He just came yesterday. And uh verse 12 it says prio coming to the certain men from James he used to eat with the Gentiles. Peter this uh Peter had a revelation and God himself gave him a revelation 1:20:16 that what God has cleansed you should not call unclean. And he knew that God accept accepts Gentiles. And he used to have good fellowship with these uh gentile brothers. But uh when certain people came from James, James was a pillar in the church 1:20:34 and he but he he had a some certain belief that even the Gentiles should be circumcised. But when some people came from um James, he stopped eating with these brothers. It says uh he withdrew and hold himself 1:20:53 aloof fearing the party of circumcision. Then the rest of the Jews joined him in hypocrisy with the result that even Barnabas was carried away away away by the their hypocrisy. But see apostle Paul when I but when I 1:21:11 saw that they were not straightforward about the truth of the gospel I said to the Peter in in the presence of all if you being a Jew live like Gentiles and don't do not live like Jews how is that you compel Gentiles to live like Jews. 1:21:30 So there are good example here of man whose tongue is controlled by the holy spirit to speak when it is needed and even apostle Peter if uh you know it's not written how Peter responded here but I believe he 1:21:47 would have been very thankful to apostle Paul said brother I'm sorry I didn't see the way you were seeing thank you for showing this to me so it's it's wonderful brothers and sisters who are tongue can be controlled by the Holy 1:22:01 Spirit. But what is the beginning? Where do we begin in the in the new covenant? You know, it's the it's not primarily the fruit. It's the root where the Lord starts working in our lives. And as we 1:22:18 sang, it's about our self-life. In Matthew 3:10, Matthew chapter 3:10, it says, "The axe is already laid at the root of the trees." The axe is already laid at the root of the trees. 1:22:34 The root is self-life. And another verse Psalm 51:6 where Suresh is mentioning that the Holy Spirit is a spirit of truth. But where is the truth primarily? From where should it origin? 1:22:54 Psalm 51:6 it says that you desire truth in the innermost being. That deep inside us the spirit. You desire truth in the innermost being. It's very easy when we come to the church be polite and be pious 1:23:12 and to make an impression that you're a sincere uh brother. I remember there was a a couple brother in his maybe 60s uh some time back they used to come and speak to us u very respectful way 1:23:30 and uh we came to know later that he used to fight with the people in the parking the brothers who was uh helping them to argue with them I often think the verse it says let your speech be always gracious you don't need that verse in the church 1:23:47 when you comes inside inside this compound we are all automatically we switched into some mode. Praise the Lord brother. Brothers we should take care of the root and the fruit it will take care itself. I was blessed recently by something 1:24:05 which I heard from brother Vincent. See if you look at the tree if you look at Galatians chapter 6 where we read about the fruit of the hol holy spirit self-control. It's the fruit. How a tree produces its fruit. Not by 1:24:21 effort. It's natural. You don't need too much effort. It's not suppressing. But it is the life life of Christ. I thought how brother Paul you could be like this. You know we read in Galatians 1:24:38 2 how Paul could his tongue was not controlled by James not Gentiles but controlled by the Holy Spirit. So the answer is in Galatians chapter 2:20. It says, "I have been crucified with Christ. It's no longer I but Christ. 1:24:54 It's not my culture. It's not my temperament. Everything I've been crucified, it's Christ." So another verse in 2 Corinthians 4:8, it says, "I carry the dying of Jesus always in my body so that the life of Christ may be manifested in us." 1:25:13 So brothers and sisters, we have a great hope if our desire is to die to ourselves so that the the life of Christ may be manifested in us. Not just to give an impression I'm a um I'm a good brother. Yes. May the Lord help us brothers and sisters. May the 1:25:32 Lord fill us with the Holy Spirit and uh he can change us as he changed Apostle Paul and as he changed many of the saints God can give us a tongue which can set on fire by the Holy Spirit. Let's pray. Our gracious heavenly father, we thank 1:25:55 you for the example of our Lord Jesus Christ. how he went about doing good and anointed by the Holy Spirit, caring and uh caring and delivering those who are oppressed and comforting those who are struggling 1:26:13 and same time we strict against the Pharisees who try to make an impression. Help us to be like him Lord and uh do that work in our heart first Lord Jesus. Make us like you. We repent of all our failures Lord. We don't want to leave before people's 1:26:29 face. Give us that courage and strength Lord like how you filled the apostle with the Holy Spirit and change them. We pray that Lord you will raise up many shepherds among us and give us that burden and sensitivity Lord Jesus to the 1:26:43 Holy Spirit.
