Summary
To prophesy in a God-honoring way, one must be motivated by a self-forgetful love for the Lord and one's brothers, rather than personal honor. Furthermore, prophecy must be rooted in faith, not mere ideas, and should be delivered with a spirit of fear and reverence. The ultimate goal is to proclaim Christ crucified, relying on the Spirit's power rather than human wisdom.

How do I know if I have a God-honoring desire to prophesy?Believers are commanded to earnestly desire to prophesy, but it is vital to examine whether that desire is motivated by a heart that honors God.1 Corinthians 14:1

God hides things from the wise and intelligentGod's ways are to hide spiritual realities from clever people and reveal them to infants, which is especially important to remember in highly educated areas.Matthew 11:25
Third: Our sharing should be conducted with fearGodly fear is not human nervousness, but the fuel of faith and a holy reverence that guards us from speaking our own words instead of God's.
Preferring five words in the spirit over thousands of human wordsLike Paul resolving to know nothing except Christ and him crucified, we should prefer speaking just a few words born of the spirit rather than relying on soul power or eloquence.
