Even the lions were supposed to obey him But sin took away man's rulership 8:17 And now like a foolish person He tries to rule over people It's easy to rule people If you're stronger you can do it You know strong husbands rule over their wives They rule over children 8:41 Because children are so small Big dictators with their military And all rule over people And elders rule over others These are all people who do not have any understanding Of what true spiritual authority is He wants us to rule over sin 9:06 He wants to set us free from the slavery to sin And I'll tell you a man who is free from slavery to sin Has zero desire to have authority over any human being I can say that before God 9:30 I have no desire to rule over my wife Or any brother or sister in the whole world God is my witness I'm speaking the truth Even when I give advice to people Do you know what I tell them? Obey him? No You will honor him as your father Say daddy I will honor you but I can't do that 16:05 That's against my conscience We are not to be slaves of men The same way with elder brothers in a church What are the areas where we must obey the elders in a church? 16:25 In matters related to the church Just like you obey the school teacher in matters related to the school That means if the elder says meeting is at 9.30 Come at 9.30 When he says we will sing song number so and so 16:46 Sing song number so and so Don't sing some other song That's all it means But then you say what about taking advice from an elder brother Listen to me You don't have to take advice from your elder brother if you have no confidence in him 17:11 That's foolish You can tell the elder brother You are my elder and everything you tell me to do in the church I will do but I don't have any confidence in you Because when I look at your life I am not inspired to have confidence in you 17:35 We seek advice from those in whom we have confidence Don't become slaves of men Because the world is full of people who are trying to make you their slaves And in the church we don't want any slaves 17:59 The truth shall set you free not only from sin But from the slavery to man A lot of people are not free They are slaves to sin and slaves to men Because they don't know the truth 18:20 Here is the truth Why should we not become slaves of men Verse 23 Because you were bought with a price If I buy something with a price from a shop 18:40 I go and buy a chair from a shop That shopkeeper has got no right over this chair anymore That's my chair I can paint it black or blue or yellow or whatever I like That's what the Holy Spirit says 19:05 You were bought with the blood of Jesus Christ You are his slave Don't be a slave to the devil Don't be a slave to a man And definitely don't be a slave to an elder brother Be a slave to an elder brother Be a slave to an elder brother 19:28 Then how shall we function together in the church On the basis of confidence I have confidence in a brother And it's my joy to listen to him Because I know from the advice he has given me 19:52 He has protected me from so many things in the past I can look at his life and see that he doesn't want to control me He only wants to help me He only wants to help me You know this is how a father A father doesn't Should not make slaves of his children 20:12 Some fathers do that They have so much control over their children Even after they get married It's one of the biggest mistakes that Indian parents do The Bible says a man must leave his father and mother 20:36 And cleave to his wife It's the first commandment in the Bible First commandment Genesis 2.24 A man must leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife 20:58 When your son gets married You must tell him I have told all my four sons that Leave your father and mother Cleave to your wife now I will tell you God has honored me 21:19 Because I have taught my children obedience to scripture And God has blessed my children Because I have taught them to obey scripture Yes As a human being I have a lust to control my children Even after they are married 21:39 I have to crucify that lust and teach them to obey God's word So I am not telling you what I have not practiced But what do many Indian parents say Oh my son 22:02 I brought you up for 28 years Can you leave me? God In that verse God will not support you So many people say They are following you The Bible But they don't follow The first commandment 26:47 In the Bible Don't follow Indian culture Follow the father and mother Because any disobedience Any disobedience to God's word Is sin If you disobey the first commandment In the Bible How in the world Are you going to obey 28:07 All the other apostle Paul Went for one dinner And he gave him money there That's not what he is talking about 31:47 He was living in Thessalonica For some time And he was living In a rented house And somebody was supplying Him 3 meals a day For weeks And weeks And weeks And he said 32:08 I am not going to take This free Because I am an apostle And he has given me 90 meals in one month I have to pay for it That's what he is talking about Not that he paid Every time he went For dinner somewhere And then in Ephesus 32:32 In Acts chapter 20 He says He says He says I have been with you Verse 31 For three About Righteousness In Verse 25 And All That To The King And Felix Was 38:51 Frightened And Felix Was Frightened And Said Okay I Will Call You Later Now Felix Was A King See What It Says In Verse 26 He Was Hoping That He Will Get Some Money From Paul As A Bride To Release Him 39:11 Can Can You Imagine This Ragged Thin Paul Standing There Like A Criminal And This 39:31 Big King Expecting A Bribe From Him How Much Bribes Do Kings Expect 10 Rupees Or 20 Rupees What Do You Think How Much Do The Politicians Expect Nowadays You 39:54 Can Know How Much That's Right Lacks How Much Do You Think Felix Expected From Paul Huge Amount Of Money Not 10 Or 20 Rupees How 40:14 Do You Think He Would Expect This Poor Prisoner Sitting In A Prison To Have So Much Money He Must Have Made Some Investigations This Man Was A Poor Tent Maker But 40:37 Suddenly In The Last Few Days He Has Come To A Lot Of Money How Did He Get That His Sister Son Came To See Him Paul Was The Son Of A Very Rich Jewish 40:57 But the moment Paul became a Christian, his parents disinherited him. 41:22 Now, I believe this is what happened. When they heard that their son Paul was imprisoned, they sent a huge amount of money through his sister's son. 41:45 That's how he became rich. And the king knew about it. Maybe the commander told him, That's how he became rich. Then you read in Acts 28. Paul was in Rome. 42:08 Rome is like more expensive than Bombay or New Delhi. It was the capital of the world. And in that city, it says in Acts 28.30, 42:29 He stayed two full years in his own rented house. How many of you can rent a house in New York or London for two years? I can't do it. 42:54 It's difficult to rent a house in Bangalore. How did this man get money to rent a house in the biggest capital city of the world for two years? And to take care of all his expenses for two years. 43:16 He had got this money from his sister's son. And that was the way God took care of him when he was too old to make tents. I'm just giving you a proof of Isaiah 46 verse 4. 43:40 The Lord says, When you are old, I will take care of you. Dear brothers and sisters, Don't seek to control anybody. Be a slave to Jesus Christ. He will take care of you even if you are a hundred years old. 44:00 But spend your life serving him like Paul. Seek to live in that absolute freedom that Jesus has come to give us. You know, I know this little truth has set me free from all anxiety. 44:22 Many people, when they get old, they get a bit anxious. What if I can't earn my living anymore? Paul may have also thought like that. I'm getting old. I can't hold the needle properly now when I stitch the... How will I take care of my needs? 44:47 Lord, all my life, I have stood for a principle that I will not take money from these churches. In my old age, are you going to let down your servant and make me dependent on these people? The Lord says, Don't worry, Paul. 45:10 I have made plans for you that you don't know anything about. God is always planning for us in love. So, we know we can be free from anxiety. You shall know the truth. The truth shall set you free. 45:31 Free from anxiety concerning the future. Things are getting more and more difficult around the world. It's not, many people are losing their jobs. It's difficult. Cost of living has gone up. 45:53 Many, many problems. It's more difficult for Christians. Because there's a lot of anti-Christian feeling in many places. And all these things can bring a lot of anxiety and tension into our minds. And we are also concerned about our children growing up in this world. 46:20 We say, okay, I'm old. I may not live much longer. But Lord, these young children of mine who just got married. Or some of these children who are still in college, who are still to grow up. How will they live in the days to come? 46:42 There's only one principle. Teach them to honor God. God will honor them. It's a wonderful promise. 1 Samuel 2 verse 30. Those who honor me, I will honor. And that's the wonderful example I see in the Apostle Paul. 47:05 See, when you read scripture. Read slowly. Carefully. When you read a verse like, King Felix expected a bribe from Paul. You have read that so many times. 47:27 Did you ever stop to think, how much bribe do you think the king was expecting from Paul? Millions of rupees. You think, where would Paul get all that money? Did he have so much savings from stitching tents? 47:52 Do you know how Paul lived? He says in 2 Timothy 4. It's a great example for me. He tells Timothy. When 2 Timothy 4 verse 13. When you come, 48:15 please bring that cloak, which I left at Troas. I'm in a prison here in Rome. It's a bit cold at night. But I, by mistake, I left my cloak over there. 48:40 Timothy, when you come, please bring that. But Paul, you got money, why don't you buy another? No, when I already have one, I will not waste money buying another. Do you know why God used Paul? 49:09 You're not asking anybody for it. You're not asking anybody for it. You're not asking anybody for it. You're not asking anybody for it. Yeah, even if it's my own money. When I have one cloak, why should I get another? Do you know why God used Paul? 49:22 The man was so utterly faithful with money. These are the little, little examples that I see, which are a lesson for me. You honor God like that. Teach your children to honor God like that. 49:43 I can tell you in Jesus' name, God will honor you. You will never lack anything, anytime in your life. You can be 90 years old, God will take care of you. Otherwise, there is no God in heaven. There is a God in heaven. 50:04 You don't have to depend on anyone on earth. You can be free from anxiety. Free from fear about the future. Free from fear that what will happen if my husband loses his job? What will happen if he gets paralyzed? 50:26 In the western countries, they even have to have a fear what will happen if my husband runs away from me with another woman. You don't have to have any fear in any country in the world. If you honor God, he'll honor you. 50:47 You put him first in every area of your life. He will take care of all of your needs. So this verse that the truth will set you free. We don't often think of freedom from anxiety about the future. 51:09 Let me show you Matthew chapter 6. Matthew chapter 6. Three times in about ten verses Jesus said one thing. I don't think you will find any ten verses anywhere in the Bible where you have 51:29 three times the same commandment given. If you find something, let me know. If you find ten verses where within ten verses the same commandment is repeated three times. 51:53 there may be I don't know but I don't think there is. What is the commandment? Verse 25 Matthew 6.25 Do not be anxious. Verse 31 Do not be anxious. 52:16 Verse 34 Do not be anxious. Now listen to verse chapter 7 verse 24 Keeping this verse in mind. Everyone who hears these words and does them will be like a wise man 52:36 who builds house on the rock. And when he is 70, 80, 90 years old the rain may descend. Verse 25 the floods may come. The winds may blow. Burst against that house. 52:57 The house will not fall. Because it is founded on a rock. Do you want to build a house like that? You want to build a life like that? Don't you think we should teach our children to build their homes like this? 53:18 My dear son, my dear daughter, obey Jesus. Obey him 100%. When he says don't be anxious, don't be anxious. Take your matters to Jesus. Take your matters to your heavenly father. He will be free from 53:38 fear of the future. Let the floods come, let the rain come, let anything come. My house will stand. And you can say my son, my daughter, I am telling you that because I have experienced it for all my life. 54:02 All of you who are growing up should be able to give that testimony to your children. The truth will set you free and it will set our children free. Let's pray. Heavenly Father, help us 54:23 to be excited and liberated by these wonderful examples in scripture. The tremendous example of the Apostle Paul how you honored him because he 54:43 honored you. Thank you Father, you are the same today.
