0:00 saw as i studied this this week was that one way to think about it especially in view of if you look at verses um verse 3 we are the true circumcision who worship and the spirit of god and glory in christ and put no confidence in the flesh and then verse 4 0:15 although i myself might have confidence even in the flesh but what are the things that cause me to have confidence in my flesh those are things that are gained to me and i thought about the words whatever was to my advantage i have 0:29 counted as my disadvantage kind of helped me think about it it made me think about the things that are to my to our advantage in the flesh whether it's um personality disposition you know being just a naturally optimistic person 0:45 that's in the world that's to our advantage do i count that as a disadvantage um meaning the fact that i that i tend to be optimistic when difficult situations come up do i count that as righteousness or depending on christ in the midst of 1:00 him despite my optimism or even you know yeah despite is a weird word to say but despite my optimism is that what i count as an advantage you know intelligence jesus says you know i praise you father that you've hidden these things from the 1:12 wise and the intelligence but that you've revealed them to babes do i count when i and the thing that i thought about this week is i have counted them as lost meaning i have taken stock of the things that are of advantage to me 1:25 in the natural in the world i've taken stock and i've i've said this is to my advantage this is my advantage this is my advantage and then i've affirmatively counted them as disadvantage you know so for me i've studied a lot in 1:39 my life and that's to my advantage in the world but for me what it means to count it as my disadvantage means every time i come to the word of god i say god the fact that i've i've been a student for so many decades does me no good when 1:54 i read your word i cannot i have to come i need your holy spirit to stir my spirit that i might know because my being a student doesn't do me any good here right and and on and on and on but but the thing that it caused me to do and think about this 2:10 week is actually a cat take stock and say what is to my for all of us it's different right what is to my advantage naturally and do i decide do i count it as a disadvantage when i interact with god that's something that 2:28 i have a long way to grow in but that's the first step then you go to verse eight and it says more than that i count not just the things that were gained to me but i count all things as loss that's the next step but the first 2:39 step is taking stock of what are those things which are advantage to me in my flesh and will i affirmatively decide that's to my disadvantage and i have to trust when jesus says for example you know you've revealed these things to 2:53 babes i have to say when i come to the word lord make me a babe i want to be a babe i don't want to trust in any of my learning in the world i want to be a babe when it comes to scriptures and then that's that's when i can gain the 3:06 advantage in christ okay so today we are as as we mentioned in the email we're going to have a special time for the sisters to actually have some time with annie here in just a little bit and so we're going to we've got about 50 3:24 minutes we'll we'll sing and sing a few songs and then we'd like to have as many people be able to share as possible so we're just asking folks to try to keep it short so that as many folks can share as possible um before 11. so we'll sing and 3:40 then we'll we'll have everybody come up and i'll ask who has something that they'd like to share for those of you who are new the way our church service works is for those who are committed members of the church we invite them to 3:51 share things that god has put on their hearts things that um ways that god has led them we look at first corinthians 14 where it says we we eagerly desire to prophesy eagerly desire to be an encouragement to the church and so we make some time in the 4:06 church service not only for teaching but also for various members of who have committed to the church to edify the body and so that's what you'll see a little bit of today but so with that let's let's start with singing i'll get to folks
