Is that the God these people are worshipping? 6:22 Why has this happened among people who speak about fullness of the Spirit and speaking in tongues? I believe in all the gifts of the Holy Spirit. I've experienced speaking in tongues, casting out demons, healing the sick, everything. 6:43 But, I find myself very different from all these people. I can never join with them. I'll tell you why. It's like an uninsulated electric wire. They don't follow the laws of electricity. 7:05 That means they don't follow the teaching of scripture. They don't follow the example of Jesus Christ in the area of money. Or, as leaders. They don't become servants of human beings like Jesus was. 7:30 They sit on thrones instead of washing people's feet. That is not Jesus Christ. That is not the Jesus I follow. I remember one Hindu neighbor of mine saying, Oh, Mr. Poonan, I saw one of your Christian religious leaders on television. 7:56 Who is being carried on a throne. I said, that is not my leader. I have nothing to do with that leader. That is, I follow Jesus Christ. Who was not carried on a throne, but who is washing his disciples' feet. That fellow is following some other Jesus. 8:20 Not the, I don't follow these, these people who stand on platforms like film stars. That is not the Jesus I follow. Don't be deceived by all this. The fullness of the Holy Spirit is a real thing. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are all real. 8:43 But they are counterfeited. What does that prove? That proves that the real thing is very valuable. Have you ever seen a counterfeit brown paper? Have you seen any counterfeit newspaper? 9:05 Because newspapers only two, three rupees, who will waste time counterfeiting that? People counterfeit gold, diamonds, expensive currency notes. Anything counterfeited means the original is valuable. 9:32 So just because you seek counterfeit gifts of the Holy Spirit, don't turn away from the real gifts of the Holy Spirit. When I was a young person, I saw a lot of these counterfeit gifts of the Holy Spirit. And I said, Lord, I don't want it. 9:52 But if it takes ten years, I'm going to seek you for the real gifts of the Holy Spirit. Everything in the New Testament is for us. God has placed in the church apostles, prophets, teachers, evangelists, 10:12 shepherds. We believe in all of that in our churches. We believe in all the gifts of the Holy Spirit. But we believe in obeying the laws of the Holy Spirit. And one of the primary laws is the law of fellowship with God. 10:37 If you try to exercise the gifts without fellowship with God, then you will be like the devil. Do you believe that the devil has got supernatural powers? 10:58 In the Bible, in the history of the Bible, who is the first person who brought fire down from heaven? It was not Elijah. It was the devil in the book of Job. 11:21 You read that in Job chapter 1. He brought fire down from heaven to destroy Job's property. Even the fire that fell from heaven in Leviticus came much later. But Job lived before Abraham. The devil has got power to bring fire from heaven. 11:46 I have seen people who have come to me for prayer with the demonic activity, amazing, amazing, miraculous activity in their homes. I have seen, I have seen demon-possessed women who are so strong that you need three, four men to hold them down. 12:11 And when the demon is cast out in Jesus' name, they become weak like other women. The devil has got tremendous gifts. Where did he get it from? He did not produce it himself. 12:32 God gave it to him. Now next question. Did God give it to him after he became the devil or before he became the devil? Can you imagine God giving the devil a gift after he became the devil? 12:52 He was created as a perfect angel in the beginning. He became proud and lifted himself up and that's why he became the devil. And when he was a perfect angel, God gave him gifts. And you say, why didn't God take it back 13:13 when he fell away? I'll ask you a question. Supposing you had a good friend, every year you go and give him a birthday gift and after 10 years he becomes your enemy. 13:33 Will you go to him and say, please give me back all the gifts I gave you in the last 10 years? Will you say it? Even you, a man, will be ashamed to go and ask for that. God doesn't take back the gifts he gives. 13:54 So when you see a Christian exercising some gift in the name of Jesus, you have to find out, is he still in connection with God or the connection is gone? You can't find out by the gifts. You can't find out by the gifts. 14:15 Because the devil has gifts. But he has no connection with God. That person may not be a disciple of Jesus Christ. He may be just a religious person. There are many religious preachers who have a lot of gifts but who are not disciples of Jesus Christ. 14:37 Jesus told us how to find out. Matthew chapter 7. He said, Beware of false prophets. Verse 15. Matthew 7. 15. They will come in sheep's clothing. Which means 14:57 they will speak the right doctrine. They won't come with some other religious book. They will come with the Bible. They will try to look exactly like sheep. But inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 15:18 Now let me ask you. Think of this. Here is a flock of sheep. Why do you think a wolf puts on a sheep's clothing and comes there pretending to be a sheep? Is he coming there to bless the sheep? 15:40 No. He is coming to bite and get what he can from every sheep. And when you see a preacher who is sounding all very nice but all he is interested in trying to get some money from you there you see 16:01 a wolf in sheep's clothing. Do you recognize that? In the 2nd century after the apostle John died there is a little booklet just about 12 pages I found it 16:22 on the internet. It is one of the earliest Christian writings. It is not part of the Bible it is written after the book of Revelation after the apostles died but it is a very interesting book it is like we read 16:43 other Christian books. The title of that book is the teaching of the 12 apostles you can easily find it on the internet and I read it one of the earliest Christian writings available today. 17:07 And those days also there were these false prophets and these you know those days people didn't have a Bible how to check up whether this guy who has come to my house is a false prophet or not. Paul didn't have a cell phone 17:26 how to contact him he didn't have email no telegram no way you got if you send a letter it will take 6 months to go 6 months 1 year later you will get the reply so the apostles were concerned how to protect 17:47 people from false prophets because there were very few handwritten copies of false letters available and so very hard most people didn't have a Bible only what they heard from the apostles so when somebody 18:08 comes and says Paul has sent me I was working with Paul for many years how to know how to know whether this is true or not because so many people were fooling believers like that 18:29 so the apostles so the apostles gave a little instruction in those days here is the simple way to find out a false prophet you can read it in that book you want to hear it very simple one line test 18:49 if he asks you for money he is a false prophet I wish Christians had followed that rule for 2000 years we would have been saved 19:09 from so much of counterfeit today I follow that you don't have to believe me but I have been protected in my life by that simple rule which the apostles gave 2000 years ago or 1900 years ago if he asks you 19:33 for money he is a false prophet because Jesus never did that Peter never did that Paul never did that none of the apostles did that none of the old testament prophets did that but Judas Iscariot did that Gehazi did that 19:54 going to Nehman and asking for money Demas who was once a co-worker of Paul also did that and who left Paul in order to make money who are the people who went after money in the bible so Matthew 20:15 chapter 7 Jesus said verse 16 you will know them not by their gifts but by their fruits fruits gifts can deceive you the gifts he speaks about in verse 22 yeah there may be people who prophesy cast out demons 20:36 heal the sick do miracles he may go they all may go to hell verse 23 I will say get away from me because they have gifts but no fruit so Jesus said you will not know them by their gifts you will know them by their fruit 20:54 that's one that's one way to distinguish disciples of Jesus Christ from religious people religious people have only gifts disciples have fruit and gifts 21:15 I'm not against gifts because Jesus said my Lord my Lord had fruit and gifts so I said Lord I want fruit and gifts but I would not be able to preach if I didn't have gifts 21:35 I started preaching when I was about 22 and God is my witness all these 49 years I have obeyed the scripture which says earnestly desire to prophesy you 21:58 know what it means to earnestly desire to prophesy let me show you that verse some people think we are against the gifts of the Holy Spirit no we're not against but we believe in electricity with 22:18 insulation that means the fruits insulate the gifts without the fruits the gifts will kill you it'll be like an open electric wire don't touch it don't 22:42 go near a man who doesn't have the fruit of the Spirit whatever whatever gifts he may have 1000 volts 1000 volts of electricity it'll kill you but 10,000 volts of electricity won't kill you if it is insulated 23:02 that is why we believe in the fruits and the gifts of the Spirit so without the fruit the gifts will destroy us see 23:24 1 Corinthians 14 when I was 22 years old and all these 49 years this is the command I have obeyed twice written in chapter the Holy Spirit 24 hours a day that does not lose its temper that 25:49 does not speak rudely to other people that is quick to apologize to someone it has wronged that is willing to go and ask forgiveness even from a beggar if you have hurt him a tongue that also knows how to speak kind words 26:07 to people words of appreciation and encouragement to people a tongue that knows not only how to speak to grown up people but knows how to speak to little children that is how Jesus had it 26:28 and a tongue that does not gossip at home all the time of speaking evil of others any news that it hears there are some evil believers like that any little thing they hear they go and spread it all around like the television 26:48 news programs I don't want a tongue like that because God will never bless it I want a tongue on fire controlled by the Holy Spirit not just speaking in unknown languages which 27:09 is good but controlled by the Holy Spirit even when you speak in a mother tongue and then to use that tongue to prophesy who can prophesy only men no Acts 2 17 says your sons and daughters will prophesy 27:30 do you know that you sisters are supposed to prophesy the bible says you're not supposed to be an elder in a church you're not supposed to be a teacher of men but half of India is women you can prophesy to all of them 27:50 and another 25% is children you can prophesy to them how much more people do you want to prophesy 60% of India you can prophesy to why can't 28:11 you do it your sons and daughters will prophesy when I pour my spirit upon them prophesy does not mean standing in a pulpit and speaking I believe in the gift of prophecy when I'm talking to people what 28:33 is it verse 3 to speak to people for edification exhortation consolation I'm saying that all of you should seek for it if you're born again whether you're a young person child or even a grown up adult man 28:56 or woman educated or uneducated in Acts chapter 2 it says he'll pour out his spirit upon slaves slaves were the most uneducated people in those days they did not even go to kindergarten and 29:17 Acts 2 says I'll pour out my spirit on those men and female slaves I have seen in some of our churches spirit filled people who are not educated praise God for that more filled 29:37 than educated people and some sisters who never started in the world speak words of encouragement to others which will encourage them challenge them to follow Jesus better God 29:58 you speak to somebody on a telephone or in an email or a letter how much opportunity to prophesy somebody comes to visit your house some lady who is discouraged comes to visit your house can't you sisters 30:18 encourage her with the spirit of prophecy why not make a permanent end to your gossiping today religious people go to church and gossip when they go home disciples of Jesus have got a tongue 30:39 of fire with which they encourage people in the church and even at home and if you don't have anybody else to encourage your husband or your wife or your father and mother or your children 30:59 there are so many people around us who need encouragement and who need a challenge to follow Jesus and like that you can build them up and God will expand your ministry of prophecy when 31:21 I started preaching in the beginning most of the time I used to preach on the streets because I was too young to preach in the church and then I would go sometimes to some distant place to one house where two three people 31:39 would meet when nobody wanted to go that's how I learned speaking to two three people once a week be willing to start with small things don't long to speak to big crowds even 32:00 today I'm happy to speak to two three people once once there was a brother who was gripped with the truth in I went and today we have three churches there starts with small things but 32:46 if you're not willing to start with small things nothing will happen once I had to go to some place like that I didn't have a church but you have to pay a price if you are not willing to pay a price you 33:26 are always thinking what will I get out of it what money will I get what honor will I get I can prophesy now verse 23 if in the whole church everybody is speaking in tongues they will say you're mad now you go to 34:07 some churches today everybody is speaking in tongues what shall we say according to 1 corinthians 14 23 you're all mad don't get angry with me I'm quoting the holy spirit holy spirit 34:28 says you're all mad I I would say many people don't say that because they don't know the bible but if in the church you prophesy and somebody is sitting there the secrets of his heart are made manifest and he 34:52 falls down verse 25 and says God is here that is how we should speak in every meeting all of you who preach God's word don't just study wait on God let the anointing of the Holy Spirit come upon you so 35:13 that God will give you words according to the need of the people sitting there that will encourage them challenge them help them to be better disciples of Jesus don't be a religious person just interested in gifts be 35:34 a disciple Jesus used to wait upon the God of miracles but he doesn't do his miracles to show off people he shows his miracles because he loves people he shows people their sin in order 42:09 that they might be free so why do you think he gave this sign to these people not to show them that this man is a great man of God not at all but because he wanted them to hear the message of the new 42:29 covenant that will free them from sin that is why God loves you and tries to save you you know the devil is always working against God servants when Jesus 42:50 was on earth the devil spread all types of false stories about him he is an illegitimate child some Roman soldier committed adultery with his mother and he was born he is 43:11 not really Israelite he is half Samaritan and so many false stories and when they preached they said see this is not according to what Moses taught in the Bible why did the devil spread such stories about Jesus because he 43:31 did not want people to hear the truth and get saved Jesus went up to heaven and Paul was the next famous servant of God on earth and he started spreading stories about Paul all types of stories and 43:52 they said that this man is not teaching according to the scriptures and so many stories why because they did not want he did not want Christians to come into this wonderful new covenant life that Paul was talking about and 44:14 throughout history always whether it's Martin Luther or John Wesley or William Booth or Watchman in their lifetime they were criticized by so many people as false prophets after they 44:34 die some years later people say oh he was a prophet so this has been the devil's way through the years how to avoid it by their fruits you shall know them see 44:54 the result of their life see how they have brought up their children the way a man's children grow up is a very good test of that man's life not 45:16 whether the children are good preachers or singers are they godly people see his co-workers are they godly people are they humble people see his 45:37 attitude to money see whether he mingles only with rich people or with poor people also by their fruit you shall know them why am I saying this because we live in a day where there are so many churches preaching so 45:57 many things how to know which church shall I join if you look for the biggest church then you must go to the Roman Catholic or to Islam Muslim group is growing more than even the Christians the 46:19 people think numbers is the proof of God fast growth is the proof of God then you have to join Islam only so so many Christians make that mistake this is a big church it must be the right church supposing 46:42 you were in Israel 2000 years ago you joined that biggest group some synagogue and that small group of 13 people Jesus with that is some despised group that cannot be the true church see 47:06 God is not in the things that are big the first body of Christ was born in a cow shed not in a palace God is not in the big things God is not in the big cathedrals 47:27 and huge church buildings you'll find God in the cow shed in some little hut but you have eyes to see it when Saul was the king of Israel God was not with Saul in the palace 47:47 God was in the cave with David and about 25 people there we have to have eyes to see where is God moving today and in 48:07 that place they'll be preaching discipleship they'll be delivering people from being religious to being discipleship I believe that is one of the greatest needs today to be free from religiosity where 48:28 the emphasis is on praying all night prayer here in Chennai many years ago I spoke at an all night prayer meeting I said prayer is like making a phone call I 48:49 said who are the people who start talking on the phone before dialing and seeing whether the other person has picked up the phone there are some people like that little two year old 49:09 children they've seen their father doing dialing and they'll also pick up the phone and press some phone hello hello yeah yeah we keep on talking like that nobody is at the other end the telephone 49:30 exchange is saying please put the phone down but they don't there are a lot of little children like that in the church today they call God he's not even listening but they're talking all night 49:50 and they say because I spoke on the phone all night God must have heard it no brother he didn't even pick up the phone why here is the answer Psalm 66 verse 18 50:11 if I regard sin in my heart the Lord will not hear me he will not pick up the phone you can pray all night you can fast and pray you can go to a 3000 member prayer meeting if there is 50:34 sin in your heart he will not hear you if you got dirty thoughts in your mind he will not hear you if you got a bitterness against are you happy when you get an increase in your 51:38 salary or a bonus at the end of the year have you ever thought of giving a bonus to your maidservant or a hike in her salary what sort of christian why 52:21 are these miseries going to come upon rich people verse 4 because of the people who worked for you you have not properly paid them those days it was in the field now it is in your house you 52:42 have not paid them properly and their cry has come up to God be careful I'll tell you something the way you treat your poor maidservants God will treat you I 53:04 have all my life been very kind to servants because I want God to be kind to me there was one brother in our church who treated his maidservant very badly young girl and 53:26 one day he invited me to his house for his son's birthday party I said I will never enter your house till you apologize to that poor girl and go and apologize to her parents I am 53:46 a servant of God and I want to represent God correctly to you God cares for the poor and I said such people are not welcome in our church 100 other churches will welcome you but not our church he 54:09 left our church because in our church you got to treat the maidservants properly if you don't want to do that there are 100 other churches go and join that God doesn't hear such people's prayers here's another example 1 54:29 peter chapter 3 verse 7 you husbands likewise live with your wives in an understanding way as a weaker vessel and grant her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life that 54:50 means always respect your wife as a queen now some women hear that brother Zach said I'm a queen you 55:11 know how to be a queen make your husband the king you'll be queen automatically but some people when they hear this they treat their husband like a slave I'm the queen brother Zach 55:31 said that I also said the husband is the king treat yourself as a fellow heir sitting on the throne there are two people on the throne treat your wife with respect 55:51 and recognize that she's a weaker vessel and live with her in an understanding way recognize that sometimes she may be tired she's a weaker vessel you're strong if you 56:12 don't recognize that verse 7 when you pray God will not hear you some of your prayers are never heard because your marriage relationship is not right my wife 56:33 and I have had numerous miraculous answers to prayer because we tried to be united with only Jesus between us nothing else we have seen miraculous answers to prayer for our children and 56:54 we see four of them following the Lord today all four and and now we have started praying for our grandchildren but they will follow the Lord even though they are only two three years old and I believe our prayers will be 57:10 heard because we don't let anything come between us but Jesus Christ so if you allow things to come between you and your husband or wife your prayers will not be heard one more thing Matthew chapter 57:31 5 and verse 23 when you come to the altar to pray and there you remember your brother has got something against you and you read the previous verse he's talking about because you got angry with him you hurt him 57:51 you said something stop praying say amen Lord I'll come back little later go to that person first verse 24 go and apologize 58:11 set it right then come back then pick up the phone and God will say hello what do want otherwise like little children the dial tone will be there and you will be speaking religious people 58:31 don't think about all this how many sermons have you heard on
